Over the years and even recently, I have heard people talk about the population of bigfoot. Some think that bigfoot population is dwindling down and some even think they are about to go extinct. So, all that got me to thinking about the many factors that can cause extinction. Lets look at a few that may or may not effect bigfoot and see if we can make some assessments.

Changes in Habitat - Destruction of wildlife habitat can result in a species going extinct. Things like deforestation, development of highways, dam building, urban development and other factors can cause havoc to wildlife. Destruction of habitat can lead to starvation of a species, make them a target for predators, or possibly cause them to die of disease. A species experiencing destruction of habitat must adapt to the changes or move to a different location. This is only some of the possible things that could happen. But would this apply to or effect bigfoot to the point of extinction? In my opinion, I would say probably not. As most of us know, bigfoot is extremely intelligent and would probably just move into a better area. The food source might be a bigger factor in the case destruction of habitat when it comes to bigfoot. But with the intelligence level of bigfoot, I would assume bigfoot would manage to find something. Another point to consider in destruction of habitat, to me, would be the rate of destruction. Of course a very fast, rapid destruction would probably be more devastating to all wildlife. In my are, in days gone by, strip mining and logging disturbed wildlife but the effects seemed to be only a temporary. If bigfoot had to move to another area due to habitat issues, could this be a factor in more sightings? I think it would.

Hunting -  While legal hunting can play a factor, it's the over hunting, poaching and commercial hunting that causes the most problems. Commercial hunting is hunting done for fur/pelts, tusks, horn and other parts. A good example is the hunting of Rhinoceros. Rhino's are/were hunted for their horn. The western black rhino was declared extinct back in 2013. It was due to poaching and a lack of conservation. Now, when it comes to bigfoot, we currently don't have a major problem with people hunting and killing them. Oh yes, some people hunt them and hope to kill one but nothing has come of it so far. There are numerous reports over the years of people shooting bigfoot, but in almost all cases it was a random chance encounter. So I think we can conclude that hunting of bigfoot is not a problem in the bigfoot going extinction theory.

Predators - Natural predators normally kill off the weak, wounded or sick prey, but it can play a part in the extinction of wildlife if a population is already low. But far worse is the human predator factor. Humans tend to take stronger and larger animals, which can really hit wildlife hard and make a species weaker. But neither of these would seem to pertain to our buddy bigfoot. As far as we know, bigfoot really don't have any natural predators. I would assume, new born or very young bigfoot could be prey for mountain lions or something but I would also assume they are well guarded.

Pollution and Disease - Pollution can have negative effects on habitat and animals. This would include plants and trees which could be a food source, among other things. But water pollution would have a bigger devastating effect in most cases. A damaged local water supply could lead to many factors which could result in a die off.  Insecticides and pesticides can be dangerous as well. But this type of problem is rarely seen in mountainous areas so the effects would be very rare and limited and probably not great enough to wipe out a whole species. Disease can be something very unpredictable. It may come from stagnated or polluted water. It could be introduced by a lower prey species. But generally cases of disease doesn't wipe out an entire species. So these factors probably would not play a major role in the dwindling or dying off of bigfoot.

Now, there are also other factors that can lead to extinction, but most are so rare and devastating nothing could be done anyways. For example, rapid climate change or abrupt climate change. Carboniferous Rainforest Collapse was a minor extinction event that occurred around 305 million years ago in the Carboniferous period. It altered the vast coal forests that covered the equatorial region of Euramerica (Europe and America). This event may have fragmented the forests into isolated 'islands', which in turn caused dwarfism and, shortly after, extinction of many plant and animal species. Another possibility is a major meteorological event. Plus I'm sure you can think of other things that can cause or lead to extinction but would it really effect bigfoot in a major way? Probably not.

So, after reviewing this information and thinking about the idea/theory that bigfoot is going extinct, I have concluded that most likely this is not true. And if they are going extinct, then it must be due to some outside factor that we don't know, understand or have thought of. I know this may not be a popular opinion that I have about it bigfoot not going extinct. But if you look at the sighting data, there seems to be a general overall uptick in sightings. You would think, for a dwindling population on the verge of going extinct, sightings would be way down. But that doesn't seem to be the case at all. Having more bigfoot sightings would seem to suggest there is a more robust population.

Of course, we don't know much about bigfoot. We don't know what or if they have a breeding cycle, how long pregnancy last, how long they live and many other things that could play a factor. I would assume, and I really don't know, that bigfoot have similar breeding cycles and pregnancies to humans. In Bonobo apes, the gestation period is about 240 days for pregnancy and that is comparable to humans at 280 days.

So, what might cause some people to think that bigfoot is going extinct?  While I can't really answer that for sure, I can offer a guess. Maybe a person does have less sighting in their area than in days gone by. This could lead them to believe bigfoot is dying off, but it really could only mean that the bigfoot have moved to another location. This would seem to account for the raise in sightings in other locations. I know in my area of Kentucky, there seems to be an increase in sightings. It could be due to a few factors. For one, the lack of logging and coal mining in my area many have led to an increase. Maybe, the increased destruction of habitat in other locations drove bigfoot  into our area.

My final assessment, opinion, would be that bigfoot is not about to die off or go extinct. That bigfoot has been here a long time and it will continue to be here for a long time.  That it is very hard to put a number amount on bigfoot. We really don't have any way to determine just how many bigfoot are out there.  We could make a guess, but it would be just that, a guess.

Thanks

Is This Champ, The Monster Of Lake Champlain?
By Dorraine Fisher

Lake Champlain is a 125 mile (201 km) long strip of freshwater lake located between New York State and Vermont, extending all the way up into Quebec, Canada. It is named for Samuel De Champlain, the founder of Quebec. It’s a beautiful area, but the most interesting thing about it is the legend of Champ, the monster that’s believed to live in the lake.

And Champlain was the first recorded European who claimed to have seen the creature. He described it as “20-foot serpent thick as a barrel, and a head like a horse." Many believe the creature could possibly be a relic plesiousaur, a dinosaur believed to have become extinct during the early part of the Jurassic period, but somehow managed to survive after the lake dried up somewhat and was cut off from the larger body of salt water which included the Atlantic Ocean.

Many people in the area believe the stories are just legend with no real basis except to boost tourism around the lake. But since Champlain’s time, there have been hundreds of sightings, but very little concrete evidence.

But that may have changed when two fisherman in the area claimed to have spotted the creature and caught it on video.

Watch this footage carefully and tell us what you think.

Around The Campfire - Bigfoot Special Forces (Ep3)

It's time for another episode of Around the Campfire with Dorraine Fisher. I think the series is getting better and better. But that is the goal to improve with each episode. To cover topics that might make a person think a little. In this episode, Dorraine covers the stealthiness of Bigfoot. The way it seems that a bigfoot just seems to vanish into thin air. Don't be surprised if the word "Cloaking" comes up.

So kick back around the campfire and listen to episode 3 of the series.

The Crypto Files - UFO Over California (Ep4)

I was alerted to this interesting clip by my ol' buddy Chris Light. It seems to be just a normal meteor or space junk falling back to Earth. But what is the mysterious object that is seen zipping out and away from the bigger object? I have attempted to zoom the smaller object in and get a better look at it. The quality of the video is not very good, so enhancements were very limited.

It is my understanding that this just happened on Feb. 24 or somewhere about that date.

It is an interesting clip. Some say it was nothing more than a meteor, some say it was a missile, and some say it was a UFO. I'm not sure what it is...what do you think?

Here is the next exciting episode of The Crypto Files.

The Crypto Files - Maine Bigfoot Photos (Ep3)

It's time for another installment of The Crypto Files. In this episode, we look at the Maine Bigfoot Photos. I had covered these photos taken by Jim Stanley back in February 2014, (Found Here) but it seems the photographs have resurfaced so I want to give everyone a chance to see both pictures and comment on them.

Here is Episode 3 of The Crypto Files.

Today's weird ebay find is of a mounted Bigfoot. Of course, we have seen similar items like this one in the past. Normally they are made out of the rump of a deer. I'm assuming this one is also made from a deer's butt. I think this one is a pretty good representation of our ol' buddy bigfoot. But what I find somewhat shocking about this piece is the price. The price is set at $25,000! I was like C'mon if you don't want to sell it then just don't list it ....then I noticed it has 32 people watching this listing. So maybe the price is not so shocking to others...well at least 32 of them.

Here is what the description say about the item.

"Up for sale is an actual Bigfoot shoulder mount! I would tell you how we "acquired" this Sasquatch in the swamps of the Aucilla River, but you wouldn't believe me anyhow. We have had this Yeti in our family for many many years. It just may be the only proof that Bigfoot truly exists! It's time for it to go, our cats, dog, kids and a few adult neighbors are all to afraid of it. This is truly rare and a one of a kind.

This is your once in a life-time opportunity to own a legit Sasquatch wall-hanger. Not even Basspro or Cabelas owns a YETI. The only pictures of a Bigfoot mount you will find on the internet are of only this stud. The next one we find we will mount the entire body, but we could only afford the shoulder mount at the time we harvested this big guy. He stood over 7.5 feet tall and weighed to much for our scales to accurately measure. Local pickup is preferred; however, we could arrange for shipping if you are not local. Please inquire."

So, from the description, I'm assuming they are trying to pass it off as a real Sasquatch? Is that why people are interested in it at that price? I also assume they are just joking but maybe the gullible are taking the bait.

I still think it would be a cool item to have but not at that price. If you would like to check it out for yourself and see the other pictures, then  JUST CLICK HERE

If anyone buys this, let us know.

Also, I make no claims or promises about this item, I'm only sharing the listing and my thoughts about it. I do not know the person selling it and have not had any contact with them.

Thanks
~Tom~

In between taking in reports and doing our own research, we also look at other videos, pictures and stories to post here. Plus we have various other projects we work on like youtube videos, books and other things. Some of it is for entertainment, some of it is to share evidence, some of it is to help weed out hoaxes and some of it is an effort to get a person to think deeper or differently about certain subjects.

Sometimes, like today, we will feature various videos. Sometimes, we ask other peoples opinion about them while giving ours. I know some people you could not convince them a video was fake no matter what you told or showed them. On the other hand you have videos that might be of a real Bigfoot and you can't convince them it might be real either. So, I guess it is best not to worry much about changing other peoples minds, as it is about sharing our/your opinions. Our opinions for videos and reports are based on what we see and what experience we have ...just like other peoples. Beside, giving an opinion on any topic is the fastest way to get attacked. So, for what it is worth, my opinion of the following video is that it is a hoax.

Here is the video.

Here is what the description below the video says:
"A man sent us this footage of a supposed bigfoot or sasquatch sighting. He says that he took it in the Spring of 2015 but was to nervous or embarrassed to show anyone who might think he was crazy. He found our channel and submitted it to us for our bigfoot breakdown."

So there is not really a lot to go on from the description. I do know that often times people wait years to tell about seeing a bigfoot. I think many are afraid people will make fun of them or just not believe them.It is also feasible that the guy was just filming the stream and heard something, but who knows for sure.

To me, the figure looks like some type of cheap gorilla suit. The face kind of looks like it is plastic. I have no evidence to back that up, just going by what I see. The guy that filmed it may not have been privy to any of this, he may be a a victim of a prank/hoax. I don't know.

I have grabbed a still frame from the video and zoomed in on the figure. You still can't see much detail. But at least I made a sloppy effort. I did not take the time to run this video on my editing software and break it down. Just call me lazy, I guess.

So, what do you think about the video? Is it real or fake? Does it make you want to visit Utah?

Thanks
~Tom~

The Crypto Files - Ketchum If You Can (Episode 2)

Here is the second episode of The Crypto Files. In this episode, we take a quick look at a couple trending stories. Many times in the Bigfoot community, old stories, and reports have a way of getting recycled. Sometimes they contain new information and sometimes they don't.

Here is episode 2 "Ketchum If You Can"

Around the Campfire - Bigfoot (Episode 2)

Pull up a chair and get ready to relax. It's time for episode 2 of Around the Campfire with Dorraine Fisher. In this episode, Dorraine tackles our favorite subject, Bigfoot! There are many varied reports about bigfoot behavior. Some reported behavior seems to always cause a riff among researchers and enthusiasts. What can we do, if anything, to help eliminate some of the fighting?  Let's see what Miss Dorainne has to say about it.

Here is episode 2 of Around the Campfire - "Bigfoot"

I recently found a possible old trackline in the snow. The stride is 5 foot or more. I didn't move the tape measure between the photos on the left.

Toe to toe, it's around a 5' 5" stride. This is very close to the place where there was a bigfoot sighting back in November. (Post found here)

The pattern and stride of these track seem to be consistent with a bigfoot trackline. Of course with what appears to be some snow melt or possible blowing snow, I can not see any definition of toes.

There appears to be 13 individual tracks in this line that lead off into the woods.

The snow is about 6 inches deep and the tracks seems to have made a pretty deep impression. This suggest that what ever made these tracks was probably pretty heavy.

Here are a few more photos.

Close up of one single track. Appears to be about a 13-14 inch track.

Another view of the track line leading up into the woods.

Of course, in the end I can not say for sure what made these tracks, but I also can not rule out that a bigfoot might have made them.

Also, I should mention that these were found in New Hampshire on Feb. 18th .

I did follow the tracks into the woodline, I didn't find much. The tracks went to a bare area, and I lost them.

What an incredible event we had on Saturday (20th) for a couple of great kids. Overall, we had a very good turnout and raised some money for Hunter and Luke. The city of Jenkins was very welcoming to all of us and Mayor Todd Depriest was very helpful in getting things set up.

If you missed the event, I will write a brief summary and share some of the photos. The event was a Bigfoot presentation event with the main goal being to raise some funds for two families devastated by the terrible thing we call cancer. I think we would be hard-pressed to find any person whose life has not been touched in some way by cancer. Somewhere in our lives we have had someone, family or friend, suffer from cancer. So, we were more than happy to take part in this event.

Creepy Figure Caught On Tape In Tabook, Saudi Arabia
 By Dorraine Fisher
Take a look at this new creepy video circulating on Youtube. Not much is known about this footage, but it’s said to have been filmed in Tabook, Saudi Arabia, which is basically in the middle of nowhere.

There are what seem to be two men in a vehicle that spot this hunched figure wearing white, and they appear to back up the vehicle to get a closer look. But when they do, the intense fear the one man feels is obvious. He doesn’t speak English, but he’s clearly horrified by what he’s seeing. The area was reported to have been investigated the next day, but nothing unusual was found.

Some are describing this figure as a “witch,” which is interesting since witchcraft and sorcery are prohibited in Saudi, Arabia, and punishable by death. So if this video is faked, someone put him or herself at serious risk in making it. And, if you know the location where this footage was captured, I would have to ask why someone would be alone in the dark, miles from civilization like this. So what is it?

Watch and tell us what you think.

Areas mentioned in the reports
There are several reports of white bigfoot here in my area of Southeastern Kentucky. We also have a white bigfoot report just across the state line, over in Tennessee. You may remember an my interview with Steve.  Well, now I have got some new reports of a white bigfoot from Tennessee. This white bigfoot has been seen multiple times.
Here is the report.

- Start Report -

Name: Cary

Email Address: on file

State: TN

County: Franklin

Date of Sighting: August 96? 97?

Time of Day: 9:00pm?

Nearest Town: Belvidere

Length of Sighting: maybe 6 seconds

How many Witnesses: 2

Any Photos/Videos: no

Describe sighting in detail:
That summer my sister and cousin were checking out my sisters new car. It was close to 9:00pm and we lived on a dead end road that borders Mingo Swamp. There is a lot of forest area that surrounded our house. We had the only light pole at the time to give any light. It was very dark there at night.
My sister decided to drive the car up the road and my cousin went with her. She had her lights on bright and had passed my grandparents road.

There is a field of corn on one side of the road and a nursery on the other. As they neared the nursery barn, they noticed a huge white figure step out of the corn. It may have been 30 yards ahead.
Both said this 8 foot white hairy looking creature with a cone shaped head stepped quickly across the road. Her lights that were able to show enough across the road that they saw the white figure start to run into the darkness beyond the fence.
They looked at each other shocked. Locked the doors and quickly as they could turned around in the narrow road.

I remember they both came in talking fast and looked quite scared. My younger cousin kept saying that they had seen a monster cross the road. My sister described what she saw. It walked upright on two legs. We questioned them for awhile about deer. Finally we cracked a few jokes and forgot about it.

Not too long after that late one night my brother heard the dogs raging outside. He thought maybe someone was messing around the house. He went to the back door and turned on the light. He then went back to get his gun and investigate. As he walked back into the kitchen, he said he saw a large white hairy figure cross right by the glass door. It unnerved him I think but he went out and saw the dogs had moved to edge of the woods like they were following something. He said they would not go any further than the backyard.

When he and I were both walking around the nursery many years before, we were talking and my brother got really quite. He was looking into some of the saplings and bushes growing in the nursery. He looked disturbed. I ask him what was wrong. He said he saw a white face looking at him from out of those trees. I asked what he meant? All he could describe was a white face with red eyes.

We lived 14 miles from Flintville, Tn. and a few miles further from Kelso were there were reports in the 70s to 90s.A white creature has been seen in Kelso. We were not far from the Elk River. A lot of woods, hills, water, and farmland. There is a large deer population. And a friend of mine camped by the river one night and said he heard a huge splash. He had been asleep in the cab. The fire outside had died down to coals. He started hearing small rocks like hitting the outside of his truck. He heard a few footsteps. In a little while a huge black shape crossed in front of the coals. He claims their was enough light from the moon that he watched this huge black shape walk pass the cab. A little later it walked past the other side. Then everything was quite for the rest of the night.

- End Reports -

Thanks goes to Cary for sharing these reports and giving good details.

If you have a report to share, please use the link at the top of the page.

UPDATE

I recently received an update from Cary. He has taken some photos of the area. Here is what he said and the photos.

"This is Cary who gave you the account of the white Bigfoot recently in Franklin County Tennessee. I went to the place and took a couple photos of place were the Bigfoot was sighted years ago by my sister. The first photo is the road and where my sister had come to almost a halt in the road when she saw it step out. To the right was where the old cornfield was and now grown up with some pretty good size saplings. Just ahead to the right is where it stepped out from cornfield into the road. The second photo I walked down to the exact spot she showed were the creature crossed and is a picture looking out into the old nursery that it began to run.    Thanks, Cary "

Here are the 2 pictures that Cary sent in.

Once again, a big thanks to Cary for following up with some photos of the area.

Thanks
~Tom~

Jackalope - More Than A Myth

Okay, so most of us have heard of the Jackalope, right? One of the long-standing "jokes" in the realms of the cryptid world. The fabled rabbit with antlers. It is an amazing sight that we can view thanks to some skilled taxidermy.
Like many unusual creatures and tales, there seems to always be some sliver of truth buried in these folkloric stories. The Jackalope is no different. As unreal as it seems, it has just a small dab of truth possibly sprinkled in the fabled creature story.

But first, a brief history of the Jackalope.

The jackalope is a mythical animal of North American folklore described as a jackrabbit with antelope horns. The word "jackalope" is a portmanteau of "jackrabbit" and "antelope", although the jackrabbit is not a rabbit, and the American antelope is not an antelope. Also, many jackalope taxidermy mounts, including the original, are actually made with deer antlers.

In the 1930s, Douglas Herrick and his brother, hunters with taxidermy skills, popularized the American jackalope by grafting deer antlers onto a jackrabbit carcass and selling the combination to a local hotel in Douglas, Wyoming. Thereafter, they made and sold many similar jackalopes to a retail outlet in South Dakota, and another taxidermist continues to manufacture the horned rabbits in the 21st century. Stuffed and mounted, jackalopes are found in many bars and other places in the United States; stores catering to tourists sell jackalope postcards and other paraphernalia, and commercial entities in America and elsewhere have used the word "jackalope" or a jackalope logo as part of their marketing strategies. The jackalope has appeared in published stories, poems, television shows, video games, and a low-budget mockumentary film. The Wyoming Legislature has considered bills to make the jackalope the state's official mythological creature.

The underlying legend of the jackalope, upon which the Wyoming taxidermists were building, may be related to similar stories in other cultures and other historical times. Researchers suggest that at least some of the tales of horned hares were inspired by sightings of rabbits infected with the Shope papilloma virus. It causes horn- and antler-like tumors to grow in various places on a rabbit's head and body.

Shope papilloma virus is also known as cottontail rabbit papilloma virus (CRPV). Shope papilloma virus is a type I virus under the Baltimore scheme, possessing a nonsegmented dsDNA genome. In the 1930s, hunters in northwestern Iowa reported that the rabbits they shot had several horn protrusions on many parts of their bodies, including their faces and necks. This led to the investigation and discovery of the virus in 1933 by Richard E. Shope when he was experimenting with cancer research. Shope separated the virus from horny warts on cottontail rabbits and made one of the first mammalian tumor virus discoveries. The virus is also a possible source of myths about the jackalope, a rabbit with the horns of an antelope, and related cryptids such as the wolpertinger. Bavarian folklore tells of the Wolpertinger, also called Wolpertinger, a mythological hybrid animal allegedly inhabiting the Alpine forests of Bavaria in Germany. The Wolpertinger is made up of several different animal parts, including antlers.

Shope determined the “horn” protrusions were keratinous carcinomas due to the infection of CRPV. These are typically found on or near the animal’s head, and can become large enough to interfere with the host’s ability to eat, causing starvation. The virus was originally discovered to affect only cottontail rabbits. in the Midwestern U.S., but can also infect brush rabbits, jackrabbits, snowshoe hares, and house rabbits.

Shope’s research has led to the development of an SPV model and the first mammalian model of a cancer caused by a virus. He was able to isolate virus particles from tumors on captured animals and use these to inoculate domestic rabbits, which then developed similar tumors. The animal model of the Shope Papilloma Virus (SPV) has contributed to our understanding of fundamental mechanisms in neoplasia, or the formation of a new, abnormal growth of tissue. The virus was sequenced in 1984, showing substantial sequence similarities to HPV1a. It has been used as a model for human papillomaviruses both before and after this discovery. The most visible example of this role is the HPV vaccine, which was developed based on and incorporating research done using the virus as a model. Similarly, it has been used to investigate antiviral therapies.

So, this is probably what started the jackalope stories way back in the day. It probably started with someone just catching a good enough glimpse of a rabbit suffering from Shope Papilloma Virus, to start telling people "I saw a rabbit with antlers". You know, rabbits at notoriously fast and a fleeting view of one with antlers would probably have gotten your attention. It probably would have gotten you laughed at pretty fast as well, while telling about it. But I suspect that others started getting a quick view of the running rabbit, and the stories became more accepted.

Regardless of the origin of the jackalope, the legend has many twists and turns. I guess that is what has helped it to continue to be in our current society and to be a good source of humor.

The jackalope is subject to many outlandish and largely tongue-in-cheek claims embedded in tall tales about its habits. Jackalopes are said to be so dangerous that hunters are advised to wear stovepipes on their legs to keep from being gored. Stores in Douglas sell jackalope milk, but The New York Times questions its authenticity on the grounds that milking a jackalope is known to be fraught with risk. One of the ways to catch a jackalope is to entice it with whiskey, the jackalope's beverage of choice.

The jackalope can imitate the human voice, according to legend. During the days of the Old West, when cowboys gathered by the campfires singing at night, jackalopes could be heard mimicking their voices or singing along, usually as a tenor. It is said that jackalopes, the rare Lepus antilocapra, only breed during lightning flashes and that their antlers make the act difficult despite the hare's reputation for fertility.

So, in the end, the jackalope is much more than just a myth. It's part of our history, our entertainment, our culture, and I'm guessing, our future.

The Crypto Files - Bigfoot or No Bigfoot?

This is the first episode and kind of a test episode, for a series I call The Crypto Files. The videos will be short, only a few minutes at best, and it will cover many different topics. In this first test, the "pilot", episode we take a quick look at 3 photographs that are making waves on social media.

We give a little information on each photograph and comment on what others have said about them. We do some quick enhancements and move the video along. In the end, we try to leave it up to you to decide for yourself.

Without further ado, here is episode 1 "Bigfoot or No Bigfoot?"

Thursday, February 11, 2016

Okay, by now you are probably aware that I'm enjoying the return of the super awesome show The X-files. The current season (10) is rapidly coming to an end. But luckily for me, I missed almost all of the past seasons, mostly due to my work schedule at the time. Thanks to Netflix, I can now watch all of the past seasons of X-files.

So, I have started watching from season 1 and along the way there has been a couple episodes that I thought would be appealing to our Bigfoot/Dogman audience. All the episodes have been great but these two I want to talk about should be appealing to our Bigfoot folks.  So here we go.

The X-file Season 1 episode 5

This episode is titled "The Jersey Devil"  and the plotline is as follows:

"Mulder and Scully track a legendary creature that has roamed the New Jersey countryside for over 40 years."

But once you watch it, it's not really the Jersey Devil as we know it. Oh, the show does touch on the origins and legend of the Jersey Devil but during the episode it not the Jersey Devil. So, what is it you ask? It is more along the lines of feral humans, or what we call wild men. Once you watch it you should be able to related it somewhat to Sasquatch. How they hide, how they may forge for food in populated areas, how fast they are and how silent they can be. Definitely worth a watch.

The X-files Season 1 Episode 19

The title to this episode is "Shapes" and it should appeal to the Dogman/Werewolf/Shapeshifter crowd. I very much enjoyed this episode.
Here is the plotline:

"A creature, possibly from Native American lore, is suspected of killing a man, bringing Mulder and Scully to the Indian reservation where the attack occurred in order to uncover its identity."

There is a couple scenes where you see this creature running and it looks very much like a Bigfoot/Dogman. Then you throw in the shapeshiting element and it become more entertaining. I still wonder if "Dogman" is just the new term we are using for "werewolf".

So, there's you two very good episodes of the X-files from season one. If you have not watched them, I suggest you do. You can find them currently on Netfilx. It's a good way to kill a couple hours.

Thanks
~Tom~

From the move The Giant Spider
While there are many cryptids I wouldn't mind chasing after, the Congolese giant spider, also just known as Giant Spider, is not one I'm interested in pursuing. Spiders in general make me squirm ...ugh.

The Congolese Giant Spider is a cryptozoological creature that is said to exist in the Congo, possibly representing a new species of arachnid. It is considered a cryptid and only in recent years has received publicity." said Robert B. Durham.

These Giant Spider are described as having a brownish body similar to that of a tarantula, with a legspan of four to six feet. I hope I never get to see one up close. The claim is that younger Giant Spiders have yellow coloring and it turns brown as it matures. I also don't want to see a young one.

While the idea of a large spider with a legspan of 6 feet may seem very far fetched, there has been a number of sightings.

Many sightings have been reported from Africa, especially in the Congo.

1938: Congo: Reginald and Margurite Lloyd were driving a Ford truck through a trail when they reportedly spotted a spider as large as a monkey. It resembled a tarantula, but had an estimated leg-span of 5 feet. Their daughter, Maurgurite Lloyd, would later relate this story in the 1990s to William Gibbons.

William Gibbons is a researcher who researched the Mokele-Mbembe , which is reported a living dinosaur, in the Congo.

1942: Papua, New Guinea: An Australian soldier at the Kokoda Trail said that he encountered a puppy-sized spider inhabiting a 10 to 15 foot sized web. It was described as being black with a bulky body, as well as hairy like a tarantula.

Now, here is a sighting that I don't like, yeah it's fine to have these killers elsewhere but not in the good ol USA. But at least it was a long time ago.

1948: Leesville, Louisiana, United States: William Slaydon and his grandchildren were walking north on Highway 171 to church when he motioned them to stop. After hearing a rustling in the bushes ahead, a spider described as the size of a washtub emerged and crossed the road. One of the grandchildren later told this story to his own son, Todd Partain, director of the documentary film "Eyes In The Dark: The Sasquatch Experience."

2001: Cameroon: Timbo, chief of the Baka tribe in Cameroon, tells William Gibbons that in November 2000 a J'ba Fofi (Giant Spider) had built a nest near their village.

2011: Amazon:  British cinematographer Richard Terry travelled to the Amazon to investigate reports of giant spiders in the June 13th episode of Man v. Monster. At a remote village, he was informed that giant spiders lived in holes deep within the jungle. These spiders measured roughly four feet in diameter.

Now, this next report is much more recent and once again in the United States. Sorry Missouri, I will not be visiting anytime soon.

2013:Missouri: A man named L. Smith spots a giant spider while he was fishing. The j'ba Fofi (Giant Spider) had grabbed his water canteen, then had crawled away very fast. L. Smith said that the incident only lasted a few seconds, and describes what he saw as a large hairy spider with long legs. He also said that it "moved like a spider catching it's prey."

That would be one spot I would never fish at again.

According to Baka natives, these spiders they call J'ba Fofi, build lairs of leaves and spin webs between two trees. They say the giant spiders prey upon birds and other small game. The Baka natives also claim the giant spider is now rare thanks to habitat destruction.

Well, that is one spider that I don't think I will ever try to find. I'll just stick to dumb spider movies where the spider dies in the end.

This report and witness interview comes from Hopkins County, Ky. It is conducted by our friend Don Neal.

Here is the description of the video

"Young mother has a possible Bigfoot sighting just outside of Madisonville, KY in Hopkins county back in 2012. This interview was done on Friday February 5th 2014 at the exact location of the sighting. The witness had no trouble remembering every small detail as it is still strongly imprinted in her memory. NOTE......this location is within a 4 mile radius of several Bigfoot sightings and encounters. This fact was unknown to the witness in this video."

Here is the video interview, at the sighting location.

Great interview and report. Don is also a member of  KBFO. Thanks for sharing, guys.

Thanks

Here in Kentucky and even many other southern states, we get told that there is no cougars in this area. But yet, we keep seeing them and sometimes even black panthers. But according to wildlife officials we do not have any cougars in the area and we are misidentifying other animals. It reminds me of a few years ago, when these same wildlife officials told us we didn't have any black bears in this area but of course we have a growing number of them.

Well, I got the following report of a cougar sighting in the state of Georgia and wanted to share it.

- Start Report -

Name: Ken ******

Email Address: On file

State: Georgia

County:

Date of Sighting: October 99

Time of Day: 7 PM

Nearest Town: Wrightsville

Length of Sighting: 20 seconds

How many Witnesses: 1

Any Photos/Videos: no

Describe sighting in detail:
Sitting in a tree stand deer hunting a pine grove, when at dusk a cougar walks right under my stand. It was on the trail I have to take back to the truck.  I live in the west and know a cougar when I see one.  Not a black panther but a tan cougar.

- End Report -

I wonder why wildlife officials tell us that there is no cougars in an area, when in fact there is. Is it because they don't really know? or is it because they just don't want the general public to know they are there? To me, if the officials know they are there and are lying to people, it would be more dangerous to hikers and campers.  I think it would be better to let people know the possibly dangerous cat was in the area, so the hikers and campers could take precautions in case they ran into one. If an accident happened and the wildlife officials had lied about cougars being in an area, would that make the libel in some way?

Thanks to Ken for sending in his report.

Be safe everyone.

Thanks
~Tom~

FolkTales - Girls Orphanage

The old all-girls orphanage in Savannah, GA was built in 1810. A fire at the orphanage took the lives of two young girls. They continue to be seen to this day. The sound of girls singing and playing has been reported for years. There are also reports of objects being moved around in rooms. Is it being done by the two little girls?

This general area of Georgia has a long history of being haunted. Moss covers many trees like a bride's veil, and it creates a shadowy and eerie atmosphere, that seems almost inviting to ghosts. Savannah's Colonial cemetery is a favorite stop for ghost hunters and those looking for a brush with the spirit world.

Check out the 3rd episode of FolkTales.
