Bigfoot DNA Paper coming soon?

It seems there is some "New" info and hope for the long talked about phantom Ketchum Bigfoot DNA study Paper.
For a long time now this DNA paper and study has seemed like a bigger myth than bigfoot itself, but is all of that about to change? Will some be eating Crow?

Dr. Igor Burtsev,
Head of International Center of Hominology in Moscow, Russia. Dr. Burtsev is well known for his research and support of the Janice Carter story, and his many years of research. The Janice Carter story may be better known as The Carter Farms Story and has been met with a lot of resistance over the years. Many have said bad things about Janice Carter but I found her to be a very nice and approachable person.

Today Igor Burtsev posted the following on his facebook page and it has caused a pretty big stir.
-Start
"The DNA analysis of the Bigfoot/Sasquatch specimen conducted by Dr. Melba Ketchum the head of DNA Diagnostics, Timpson, TX, USA has been over!
Team of American scientists led by Dr. Melba Ketchum for five years has analyzed 109 purported samples of such creatures. The study has sequenced DNA of a novel North American hominin, commonly called Bigfoot or Sasquatch.
There were a large number of laboratories associated with this study including academic, private and government laboratories in which blind testing was utilized to avoid prejudice in testing. Great time and care was taken in the forensic laboratories to assure no contamination occurred with any of the samples utilized in this study.
After 5 years of this study the scientists can finally answer the question of what sasquatch really is. It is human like us only different, a hybrid of a human with unknown species. Early field research shows that the Bigfoot/Sasquatches are massively intelligent which has enabled them to avoid detection to a large extent. They are different than us, however human nonetheless.
The hybridization event could not have occurred more than 15000 years ago according to the mitochondrial data in some samples. Origin of this hominin was probably Middle Eastern/Eastern Europe and Europe originally though other geographic areas are not excluded.
The manuscript associated with this study has been submitted to a scientific reviewed magazine.
For years people have refused to believe they exist. Now that we know that they are real, it is up to us to protect them from those that would hunt or try to capture them for research or for sport. They should be left alone to live as they live now. After all, they are our relatives.
At this time, analysis of the Sasquatch genomes is still ongoing. Further data will be presented in the future following this original study. Additionally, analysis of various hair samples purportedly from Siberian Wildman are being tested in an effort to determine if relatedness exists between the Sasquatch and Russian Wildman."
-End

While this may get many overly excited it is important to remember there is nothing really new in his statement. Almost all of that info has already been posted at one point or another.
While I have great respect for Igor and find him a very nice guy, we must remember that there has been numerous attempts from Russia of reported proof of bigfoot. Lets not forget the totally bogus "captured bigfoot" video from a few months back. None of which Igor was involved in to my knowledge.

One good thing about Igor's statement is that it got Dr. Melba Ketchum to issues a statement. Which she has not done in a long time.

Here is Dr. Ketchum's statement.
-Start
"It is unfortunate that the partial summary of our data was released in this manner, however, I will be making a formal response in the next few days. Even though Igor Burtsev released this, it was not Dr. Burtsev's fault."
-End

All this posting and confirming has got the bigfoot world back buzzing about the DNA Paper.
While I will remain skeptical, I am hopeful that the paper is real and will be published at some point. If you think about it Robert Lindsay posted most of this, if not all of it, months ago.

There are many researchers I like and respect associated with this DNA paper. Many of these researchers have DNA samples reportedly in the Ketchum DNA study. Here are just a few of the people reportedly to have samples or a hand in the study: Randy Brisson,JC johnson,Scott Carpenter,Derek Randles,Larry Surface,Justin Smeja and more.

If  this is true and we are really close to the DNA results being published, then it would be safe to assume that the also long awaited Erickson Project Videos will be released in the near future as well.

This DNA study has been ongoing  for roughly 5 years with little or no solid info released to the public, maybe all that is about to change but after this amount of time I will continue to be skeptical but hopeful. I will not get overly excited until I can see some real published results and not just some random facebook posts. I find that after all this time I'm more excited about the Erickson Project videos than the DNA study. I probably will not understand much of the DNA results anyways but HD video should be easy enough to discern. I just hope they don't try to sell the DNA paper as "The Missing Link".
So while at least there is some movement on the whole DNA Paper, we are still left in the same state we've been in for years now...waiting.

Thanks
Tom

What’s Really Up With Dr. Ketchum’s DNA Project?
Hoax, Conspiracy, Or Nothing Unusual?
By TCC Team Member Dorraine Fisher

Empty Lab - Moving on up or Moving on out?
Well, there’s been a considerable amount of excitement in the Bigfoot world in the last couple months, but none of it has been good or constructive.  Mostly conjecture, hoaxing, and a lot of the general ridiculousness we’re so used to seeing. So we’re still hoping for something concrete from the DNA project. But that’s another mystery.

Dr. Ketchum’s office was recently discovered to be vacant. While she posted this vague message on her Facebook page over the weekend: “We are moving the lab to a larger town and are in the process of selling the service part of it. We will be doing forensics and research oriented projects only.”

But that only leaves the field wide open for speculation. How does this affect the awaited results of the DNA project? Or, if we dare ask,  is there a DNA project at all? Have we all been duped? Why is this taking so long, and why is there so much secrecy surrounding it? I had to sit down and ask myself, “Why is this whole project playing out in such a suspicious way?”

And why do we think it’s suspicious?

Well it could be that the doctor has pulled up stakes, closed the company website and fired her right hand person right in the middle of a major DNA discovery. Perhaps one of the greatest discoveries of all time. So we have to ask the question why. What’s going on?

First, to address the idea that the DNA project is a hoax; a sham; doesn’t even exist, was finally squelched for me (slightly) when a very reliable source ensured me the project is very real and is still in pier review.

Two other possibles came to mind: Some kind of conspiracy or some kind of financial gain. Or both.

Since we’re all painfully aware that the government may have real information about the existence extraterrestrial life and is keeping it a secret, why couldn’t it be the same with bigfoot?

The second thought is that the government may be attempting to block any information of bigfoot’s existence for some reason. Maybe the DNA project’s results are being suppressed. And why? The only reason this might happen is if the results were shocking or controversial to the point that the government might believe it’s some kind of security risk. That would cause them to try to put a gag order on the results of such a project, wouldn’t it? Say, if the rumors are actually true and Bigfoot is more human than we think?

I talked to an official recently with 32 years experience working for the government to kind of clear my head on the conspiracy idea. I, like a lot of people, can get really engrossed in a good conspiracy theory, something like being glued to a weekly soap opera. So I knew I needed to ground myself on this one. But he insisted that conspiracy is a difficult thing to implement.

“It never moves fast or quietly,” he said when he talked of the government and their dealings with any issues of importance. “Not everything is tied to a government cover-up. They would need probable cause to silence the study,” he added. “Since this is not a national security risk.”

“But couldn’t some very controversial results of the study constitute a possible security risk? Say if certain religious or environmental sects took the news badly?” I asked.

“No, again, they’d need probable cause; national security risk, or environmental threat,” he insisted.

“So no chance of a gag order happening, especially this quick?” I asked.

“No, I don’t think so. Something that big would’ve made the news for sure.”

So I called all pertinent government offices at the local, state, and federal level, and found no evidence of any gag order on the project. Here is the list of places I called:
*Shelby County Clerk's Office
*Shelby County Attorney's Office
*Texas State's Attorney's Office
*US Dept. Of Justice
*US Dept. of Interior-Fish And Wildlife Division
So apparently he’s right. It’s not that easy to implement a conspiracy such as this as he said. It would take way too much time and way too much red tape. “It’s not as easy as some big wig calling the Department of Justice,” he elaborated. So there are certain channels everything must go through. That’s not to say it couldn’t be done, but it is to say that it would likely take longer than the amount of time we’ve all been waiting for the results.

And the Department of the Interior’s Fish and Wildlife Bureau did share with me that this subject doesn’t even apply to their office if the creature is not yet proven to “quantifiably exist.” They only deal with known species and steps would have to be taken to prove its existence before any other action could be taken.

Another possibility was whether the proven existence of the creature would affect the logging industry. Would that cause the government to attempt concealment of the creature’s existence?

“It would have to start with the logging industry being told to stop, and then filing suit,” he explained.  Any action such as this could take months to put in place. Besides, if this were the case, environmental and wildlife groups would surely get wind of a new species of primate roaming the forests of the North American continent and bring it swiftly to public attention for their personal causes. It would be very hard to keep this quiet. The media would have a heyday.

So even though I wasn’t completely convinced from this conversation that the government couldn’t do what they wanted when they wanted if they could convince themselves they had a good reason, the conspiracy idea was at least taken down a notch on my list of possible scenarios.

So if we eliminate conspiracy, we’re left with one thing: money...and fame. Depending on the results of the study, this could potentially be a big money project for Dr. Ketchum. Book deals, public speaking engagements, and even possibly a consulting position to a larger DNA project could be in the works. There are many ways to make money from such a groundbreaking project. And when money and fame are involved, a person might be forced to decide with whom they would like to share all that. And that might explain Dr. Ketchum’s surprise break with Sally Ramey when the project was believed to be so close to fruition. And why has the doctor not had regular contact with the DNA submitters as was suggested by a couple of researchers I spoke to recently?

But after all this speculating, should Dr. Ketchum be surprised that anyone would wonder so much and imagine so many different, sometimes crazy scenarios?  If she dislikes the rumors that are swirling right now, she may have only herself to blame. She’s had plenty of time to explain herself, but has chosen instead to keep her answers vague and keep us all wondering.

I asked her this week if she’d like to make a statement and if the project was still on track, and she had only this to say. “Thanks, but I am not making any comments at this time other than to say that things are progressing.”
Give us a better explanation, Doctor, and the rumors can go away.

So this got me to checking with the Better Business Bureau and I found some things that people might find interesting.
It seems there are numerous complaints filed with the BBB against Ketchum's company.
19 complaints filed
There has been 19 complaints filed with the BBB against DNA Diagnostics over the last 3 years.
Most of the complaints seem to be for either very slow or no service at all. I read some of the complaints and many did not get any results back from the lab at all. Others were trying to gets refunds. Many complaints also stated that there was a  "Failure to respond to phone calls or written requests for assistance or support" from DNA Diagnostics.

Here is a little part of one complaint, the customer wrote:
"On Feb 24th my wife called and was told "there was a problem with the sample and it would have to be re-tested". On the 4th of March my wife called again and was also told that "sometimes it depends on how the hair reacts to the chemicals, or, IT DEPENDS ON HOW YOU HOLD YOUR MOUTH WHEN RUNNING THE TEST". Then it was "the technician wasn't working out so we hired a new one that seems to be working out pretty good, so we are going to run it again tomorrow. But we may have to have another sample." We were told that this testing is done on fridays. So they had 5 fridays to complete the tests or inform me that a new sample needed to be submitted...."

The customer went on to say:
"I sent you a hair sample for HYPP testing that you received and SIGNED for on the 31st of January 2011. I have made repeated attempts to contact you about the progress and have been told "we didn't receive it when you think we did, the test will be done this week and results mailed to you, the email address you sent the email to doesn't come to me (then why have the email address?), there was a problem with the test and it has to be rerun on Friday (March 4th, 2011) and I take the results and put them in the mail that day or the next. It took you 2 days to deposit my check but has taken over 30 days to get my test results."
There seems to be a history of slow service, could this be the reason for the long delay of the DNA paper being published? Maybe

The BBB summed the complaints as follows:
"DNA Diagnostics has developed a pattern of complaints and has failed to correct the underlying reasons for complaints. Consumers claim have paid for services that have not been delivered or have not been delivered within a reasonable time. Further, they have not received a refund when services were not provided."

With these complaints the BBB give Dr. Ketchum's company a grade of F.
Company grade of F
So given the complaints and the current rumor that Ketchum is in litigation now. I can see why the DNA paper might be delayed. I can also understand why many think the paper will never be published. If you have a possible bigfoot  DNA sample sent into Dr. Ketchum this could cause some concern about it. Will a company with a grade of F be taken seriously? Does the BBB really carry any weight? or is it meaningless?

I had very high hopes about  the DNA paper from Ketchum but after all these long delays and the history of these short comings it sure makes me wonder if everything is what it is said to be.

If you would like to check the BBB reports yourself then click HERE.
Maybe all this means nothing and the paper will come out someday...lets hope.

There is now new hope for some bigfoot DNA results later this year.
While Dr. Ketchum and her DNA paper seem to be forever hung in limbo and them forever twiddling their thumbs , The University of Oxford is now taking DNA samples and have a time table for publishing results.

Oxford-Lausanne Collateral Hominid Project is now accepting DNA samples and here is how to submit a sample to them.

OLCHP mission statement - As part of a larger enquiry into the genetic relationship between our own species Homo sapiens and other hominids, we invite submissions of organic material from formally undescribed species, or “cryptids”, for the purpose of their species identification by genetic means.

SAMPLE SUBMISSION Sample submissions are invited from institutions and individuals. In the first instance, please send details of the material you would like to submit to one of the Principal Investigators. These should include:
  • Your name, institutional affiliation (if any), postal and email addresses and other contact details.
  • A physical description of the specimen: (Hair, tooth etc). Photographs welcome.
  • Its provenance: A short account of the origin of the sample, when and where (with coordinates if known) it was collected and how it came to be in your possession.
  • Identification: Your opinion of its likely species identification, and your reasons.
  • Authority: A statement that you are entitled to send the specimen for analysis and that we have permission to publish the results.

In order to avoid misidentification of samples due to contamination, our preferred material is hair, although tissues will be considered.

After reviewing your submission, we will send you a sampling kit with instructions. Please do not send any materials without first hearing from us. They will not be analyzed nor returned.

You may choose whether to be identified as the donor of the sample, or to remain anonymous.

TimetableThe project is divided into three phases.
  • SAMPLE SUBMISSION PHASE May – September 2012
  • DNA ANALYSIS PHASE September – November 2012
  • PUBLICATION PHASE November – December 2012

DNA ANALYSIS At the end of the submission phase, the most promising samples will be selected for DNA analysis. You will not be charged for the analysis. Unselected samples will be returned.

The process of DNA analysis is destructive. Any unused material from selected samples will be returned or, if you prefer, will be submitted for curation as part of the Bernard Heuvelmans Cryptozoology archive in Lausanne.

PUBLICATION PHASE
Results from DNA analysis will be prepared for publication in a peer-reviewed science journal. No results will be released until any embargoes on publication have passed.

TCC - It seems they at least have plan and a time frame in which the project will be completed. This could be a saving grace type of thing for hope of a bigfoot DNA paper in the year 2012.
So with any luck either this or the Ketchum paper will come out before the years end. Then who knows maybe we get lucky and they both will come out.

sasquatch hair sample

Recently Randy Brisson, who is one of my favorite researchers, posted a new hair sample photo he collected.
Randy also has some hair samples that is said to be included in the Ketchum DNA paper and he is listed on the team page of The Erickson Project web site.
This recent sample is a new hair sample and is not one of the samples that has already been submitted to the DNA study.
Randy also stated that he was recently yelled at by a sasquatch while out in the woods and that some rogue researchers have been in there at night and it has irritated the sasquatch.

Dr. Melba Ketchum

Dr. Melba Ketchum

Dr. Ketchum who was to be Presenting at the WA conference did not make the event.
She still did a presentation via Skype  that covered some methods and DNA info. Her not showing to the conference has raised a lot of questions in the bigfoot community. She made a few statements concerning her presentation. Her first statement was before the conference and here it is:

"Presenting at the WA conference at 2 PDT today. Since the paper isn't quite out, won't be able to give data, but I do hope that everyone will learn some things." - Dr. Ketchum.

So she knew that she would not be talking about the DNA paper.

After her not showing up in person and questions flying everywhere about all of it, she made the following statements:

"I need to set the record straight on mis-reporting concerning my presentation at the WA conference:

1. My presentation was not 8 years old. I used some powerpoint slides from a complicated human/animal forensic case from 8 years ago to demonstrate our forensic capabilities as well as some of the techniques used in our study including control of contamination.
2. We did not sequence the WTC s...amples, Celera did that, but I was involved with the analysis of the sequences generated by Celera.
3. The PowerPoint Presentation did include results of the first alleged BF samples tested in our lab. This was followed by me discussing the results of the first BF samples that actually triggered the beginning of this project.
I have to remind everyone, that until it is published, I cannot discuss our data at all. That is why this presentation was given in this context." - Dr. Ketchum

So if things are as she is saying, then the DNA paper is still under review and will be published at some point.

A drawing of the male Bigfoot killed at the Sierra Kills from an upcoming book by Justin Smeja about the incident which will contain many more great photos and drawings like this

Sierra Kills Drawing

Robert Lindsay recently posted the above photo. Love him or hate him he does obtain some inside info when it comes to all the bigfoot stuff.
This is a  professional artist’s rendering of a Bigfoot .This is a rendering of the bigfoot Justin Semja  killed and reportedly submitted the DNA sample from. This sample is reported to be included in the Dr. Ketchum DNA paper.
Robert Lindsay also reported that Justin Semja  has submit a bigfoot steak sample to an independent lab for testing of DNA.

TCC

This was just a quick review of some of the more important events in the bigfoot community. I think we are the only ones that covered the Randy Brisson hair sample...but I think it was important.

The Erickson Project - Sasquatch the Quest Promo

TCC -  This Promo was on youtube, It is pushing up towards 1 year old. In this promo there seems to be a big push to tie in the DNA results. So it makes me wonder if The Erickson Project video is ready to go but waiting on Dr. Ketchum's DNA report to FINALLY publish before releasing the video.

This could be the case. Just watching the Promo make me want to see the video NOW!

Some are crying foul and saying it is all about money, well I think The Erickson People should make some of their money back. After all they have over 5 years of time and money already invested and I do not expect them to just give it all away for free.

Thanks
Tom

Randy posted the following:
"And some say there is no Sasquatch Hair, Well I saw the Sasquatch leave this Hair on a branch, Proof is in the Bag."
Photo of Sasquatch hair by Randy Brisson

Some people call Randy a hoaxer but there is no proof of that and he is in a great place for sasquatch, Randy is in Vancouver, British Columbia and he and his family routinely go out and search for sasquatch. It is also reported that he has a few samples in to the Dr. Ketchum DNA study.

Randy and his son Ray go out in the woods often and look for evidence of sasquatch.

Ray checking out some tracks
In the above photo you see Ray checking out a recently found track way.Ray was checking out the   Distance between the tracks in the photo. According to Randy they followed this trackway for about 30 minutes and it end at a cliff. "The tracks were big tracks about 17 inches" Randy posted.
Randy Brisson is one of our favorite researchers and I enjoy his fines and pictures. Glad we are able to give this recent update on his research.

Thanks
Tom

Here is what the statement says :
"Fact: This paper has not and will not go to a cryptozoology "journal" of any type. Stringent, skeptical review is necessary for the success of this paper, thus the length of time it is taking to get this out. It would have been out a long time ago if we would have chosen to send it to some obscure journal or some type of crypto journal but I prefer the more difficult path because it makes the paper credible to the scientific community."

TCC - So in other words this is not going to be published in anything but some type of scientific journal or magazine...which is a good thing as it will make the efforts much more creditable.
On that note I do want to thank all those who work at any Crypto journal or  magazine or online crypto sites, while your efforts might not be considered "scientific" or you may feel like you get zero credit, I think it has much merit and value to not only me but other people who are interested in the subject. I would think it servers a good purpose to introduce new people into the wonderful world of Cryptozoology.

Thanks
Tom

Tim Fasano - "I talked with Dereck today and he told me the Ketchum project is real and they have followed all scientific procedures."

TCC - So apparently after talking to Derek Randles good ol Tim has had a change of heart and issued the apology via youtube video.  We applaud Tim for clear things up.

A source told Robert Lindsay the following:
"Here is the big news Robert, but unfortunately I can’t tell you anything more about it or expand on it. But by the end of this month, a shockwave is going to be sent through the Bigfoot community. That’s all I can say at the moment. But things are happening now that are gonna change everything."

Hmmm...Does this mean that the DNA paper will publish soon? Will it publish at the end of this month like many have stated? This could be what is going to happen, time will tell.

Robert Lindsay's latest post about bigfoot and the DNA paper gave us more to think about as well.

We can now assume the Following:

*  Josh Gates Yeti hair sample taken in Bhutan is now part of the final report and is a sample being used.
* Sierra Kills steak hair is 5-6 inches long, kinky like pubic hair.
* Sierra Kills steak, according to Dr. John Mionczynski,  smells like “burnt honey”.
* Sierra Baby Kill is said to look like a cross between a chimpanzee and a black Kid, the eyes are closer together than humans.
* Sierra Kills sample was included in Ketchum’s study.
* Some DNA samples were tested blind at eight different labs across the U.S.
* Alaska professor Rob Alley possible co-author of the Ketchum study.
* A rib bone with some flesh and hair stuck to it was found during the search of the Sierra Kills site in July, bone has not yet been tested.
* Derek Randles  revealed on MBRT Radio that Justin Smeja has boots with the blood of the young Bigfoot on them.

Lindsay also posted some info about Matt Moneymaker and the Finding Bigfoot show but I didn't pass it along here....so if you want to read it please go on his blog via the link below.

Thanks and I just can't wait until all the info and videos are finally released.

www.sasquatchthequest.com - Back online!
The site now Has some different and more detailed info as well.

Dr. Melba Ketchum is now (again) listed as a team member, If you remember she was listed and then remove but now it seem is back on the team.
There is even more details about the DNA samples obtained by the Erickson team.
They have a nice little paragraph about it and tell how they are working in conjunction with Dr. Ketchum.
The site also talks about how elusive these creatures are and how hoaxing has hurt research.
I suggest everyone go there and read the site.

Also the website has a very strong warning to bloggers and websites using any Erickson project info or images. I would think this is mostly directed towards Robert Lindsay as he has been the one who has posted most of the leaked info and rumors. The warning even goes as far to say that people will be subject to litigation.
This type of warning is of course is hard to enforce as you can't stop people from talking or speculating about a subject. It's like telling bloggers not to talk or speculate who is going to win the upcoming election. Now they can stop people from using their images and web content that is for sure.
I hope I'm not violating their warning, we have supported The Erickson Project the whole way and we are just interested in Finally being validated on the subject of bigfoot.

In my Mind All this points to one Major thing...It is finally about to happen..the paper is about to publish or is close, why else would the site come back up and talk about DNA, the videos are about to release maybe not summer but for sure at some point.
I think the wait is almost over Gang.
I'm telling you I think this is about to happen...all signs are pointing to it. Finally!
I Glad The Erickson people have brought their site back up and have help clear up some of the rumors, Maybe they will keep it updated with new info.
Thanks
Tom

Breakdown on Ketchum report purported Bigfoot samples

Samples submitted: Over 100
Samples presumptive for Bigfoot: 28
# of Bigfoot creatures represented: At least 20

Which samples made it in?
5 hair samples from Golden Ears Provincial Park in British Colombia, representing 5 separate creatures, gathered by Erickson Project.
1 toenail from Larry Jenkins in Arizona.
1 blood sample from JC Johnson in the 4 Corners area of New Mexico (skunk in a drainpipe sample).
1 blood sample from Crittenden, Kentucky, gathered by Erickson Project. Sample was obtained by gluing glass shards on a feeding plate.
1 hair sample from David Paulides NABS known as the Ulibarri sample from Hoopa Valley, California.
1 hair sample from Larry Surface in southern Ohio. Surface shot the controversial nighttime Bigfoot video that was pulled from the web recently.
1 slice of Bigfoot flesh from Sierra Buttes, California from the adult Bigfoot shot dead by Justin Smeja.
That’s only 11 of the 28 samples. I don’t have any information on the other 17.

Randy brisson's letter
This agreement is for DNA research, testing and analysis of specimen. Easy to see it is signed by Randy.
Once again Randy Brisson has proven what he is telling is truth. The Crypto Crew would like to Thank Randy for showing the picture...so Thanks Randy!
As everyone should remember it was The Crypto Crew that broke the story about Randy's sasquatch hair samples and posted the pictures of the hair samples.
In the world of bigfoot it seems some people are nothing but hoaxers, it nice to see a research like Randy backing up his work and stories.
Thanks
