Vanishing Hitchhiker?
The Twisted Tale of "Resurrection Mary"
By Dorraine Fisher

Whatever your opinion about the city of Chicago, it’s still famous for a lot of things. Though ghosts might not top the list for most people, one ghost is very well-known there.

Every night, hundreds of travelers drive past Resurrection Cemetery hoping to get a glimpse of Resurrection Mary, the "vanishing hitchhiker" said to haunt that stretch of road in search of a ride.

There have been several reports since The Great Depression era from men who claimed to have traveled down Archer Avenue, saw the ghost on the side of the road where she asked them for a ride, only to have her disappear before the trip was over. She was described in novels as a teenager, blonde, with blue eyes, wearing a long, white ball gown.

According to the story, she was dancing with her boyfriend in a nearby ballroom when an argument between them ensued. It was an argument serious enough to make her believe she needed to walk home. She was said to have headed home down Archer Avenue where she was struck by a hit and run driver. Her inconsolable parents buried her in her ball gown and dancing shoes in Resurrection Cemetery where she has since been spotted on numerous occasions along the road. But the woman’s identity was never really confirmed.

In 1999, author and ghost hunter Ursula Bielski connected her to a case that took place near the area where a woman named Anna Norkus was killed in an auto accident. This story is widely accepted by many, but we’ll probably never know who the girl really was.

Is this Mary?
Over the years, many have claimed to have seen her and some have even claimed to have photographed her. Could this be an actual image of Resurrection Mary? *******DF

Over 20 years experience with research and investigation of unexplained activity, working with video and websites. A trained wild land firefighter and a published photographer, and poet.

Got a reported submitted a couple days ago and wanted to share it.

-Start Report-
Name: Robin M*******
Email Address: Withheld
State: Mississippi
County: Tippah
Date of Sighting: 12/25/08
Time of Day: 8:30pm
Nearest Town: Ripley
Length of Sighting: a few seconds
How many Witnesses: 2
Any Photos/Videos: none
Describe sighting in detail:
A large hairy bipedal creature crossed the road in front of my daughter and I while driving home. It only took 2 steps to completely cross the road.
It then disappeared down the bank into some trees.
I also heard strange howls and screams for several nights after that.
Update - It was 7 1/2 to 8 ft tall and dark brown. The sighting happened on hwy 773 about 1 1/2 mile from hwy 2. There is a large lake and cemetery close to where we saw it. I live less that 5 minutes from there. My daughter who is 21 now is still nervous to go outside at night by herself.
I found out that there have been several other sightings in Tippah county over the years that have been reported to the GCBFRO. One happened only about 5 miles from where I had my sighting and it was reported by 2 deputies.
-End Report-

I have attempted to contact Robin in an effort to get more details about the appearance of the creature and will update if I get any other information.

Thanks

Interview with Dax
Dax searching for Bigfoot on Bigfoot Bounty

This post by Thomas Marcum, Thomas is the founder/leader of the cryptozoology and paranormal research organization known as The Crypto Crew. Over 20 years experience with research and investigation of unexplained activity, working with video and websites. A trained wild land firefighter and a published photographer, and poet.

[©The Crypto Crew]
Spike TV's Bigfoot Bounty is a show in which contestants hunt for evidence to prove bigfoot is real. If any team can bring back proof they win $10 Million. Bigfoot Bounty has it's supporters and critics but I thought it might be good to get some insight from one of the contestants. Here is a short interview with current Bigfoot Bounty contestant Dax Rushlow.

TM: About how long did it take from when you were first contacted about being on the show, until you actually knew you were in for sure?
Dax: About 5 months

TM: How long did it take to actually film the show?
Dax: Almost 2 months

TM: This was your first time in this area looking for bigfoot, how did you like being in unfamiliar woods? How challenging was it?
Dax: I loved being in a new place, especially the Pacific North West. It was very challenging. Different plant and wild life. But loved every minute of it. Like a kid in a candy store.... Whoooooop!!!

TM: During the show you have a teammate - Did you get to pick your teammate or was it done by the producers?
Dax: We got to pick our team mates. Rictor and I had been Bigfoot/Facebook friends for a while before the show.

TM: How do you think your teammate did?
Dax: Rictor did very well for never being in the woods before. He picked up on alot in a short time. He was like another kid in a candy store.

TM: Who do you think was your hardest competition during the show ?
Dax: I was my own hardest competition. I feel I am really good at researching the Sasquatch, and I have had a great encounter that pushes me to discover more about them. O.K...., Stacy Brown is one crazy b*tch. Cuz!!!!

TM: During the show you pulled out a Star Wars Light Saber, what made you use it? had you had success using it before?  Do you think Bigfoot is a Star Wars fan?
Dax: The lightsaber was used in place of glow sticks, hanging from the trees to create curiosity. I have had luck in the past with glow sticks and once with the lightsabers. Bobo, from Finding Bigfoot, set off fireworks once to try and find them. I needed to one up his ass... lol. If I were a bigfoot I would love Star Wars.

TM: Was it hard to take some of the criticism from the judges?
Dax: I knew it was coming, so no.

TM: So far it seems that there is some fighting amongst some of the teams, did this arguing continue after filming stopped?
Dax: The drama was definitely present throughout the filming. Just think, you had Ego's and 10 million dollars on the line.

TM: Is there anything you wish you hadn't did or wish you had done better during the show?
Dax: No.

TM: Anything, so far, that was cut out of the show that you wish they would have shown?
Dax: Yes, alot of stuff I wish you all could see.

TM: What do you think will be the effects, if any, on bigfoot research because of the bigfoot bounty show?
Dax: I think it is going to put Bigfoot/Sasquatch one step closer to being accepted. Maybe even totally accepted. You really need to watch the show.

TM: Do you have any regrets about doing the show?
Dax: No regrets at all. The experience to feel, see, and smell where so many Sasquatch sightings and encounters have happened was indescribable.

TM: Any word on a Bigfoot Bounty 2? and would you do a season 2?
Dax: I do this same type thing even when people with camera's aren't following me through the woods

TM: How has the reaction from the bigfoot community been?
Dax: The reaction from the Bigfoot community hasn't changed, just my name is in it more. I have dealt with strange reactions from people ever since I saw one of them. Just get out in the woods and enjoy life.

A big thanks to Dax for doing the interview and a good luck to all the contestants on Bigfoot Bounty.

Thanks
~Tom~

The Ghost Of "Alice" In Springfield, Illinois
The Haunted Virgil Hickox House
By Dorraine Fisher

The Virgil Hickox House of Springfield, Illinois has an interesting history. Originally built in 1839, it’s been many things over its long history including a tavern, funeral parlor, men’s club, and speakeasy. Originally built by Virgil Hickox as a private residence, it received numerous additions during his life to accommodate his growing family. But many strange happenings have been reported there over the years.

Some say the building is haunted by several ghosts including a dominant male entity and a little girl called Alice and it’s been subject to many investigations. The house is believed by some to be a portal. Orbs have been spotted there and numerous EVP’s have been recorded. In August of 2011, Capital City Paranormal Investigations investigated the house for The Travel Channel and took this striking photo. Could this be the ghost of Alice?

Half snake half girl
Snake Girl?

Ok, so of course this is a total fake but I have seen it getting passed around the internet the last little bit.
The story is being passed off as a real but rare condition known as Serpentosis Malianorcis. The thing is there is no such disease as Serpentosis Malianorcis.

Here is the story that is being attached to the photo.

"Bangkok| 8 year old Mai Li Fay, from Bangkok, is far from living the usual life of a girl her age. Everyday, thousands of people gather to the front of her family’s house to get a chance of seeing and possibly touching the young girl, a gesture which both buddhists and hindu pilgrims seem to perceive as a garantee of good fortune.
According to the country’s top medical expert, Dr Ping Lao, the young girl suffers a very rare syndrome known as the Serpentosis Malianorcis or Jing Jing’s disease, which gives her lower body a distinct reptilian form and aspect. Only a handful of such cases have been recorded throughout history, so the scientific knowledge accumulated about the pathology is rather limited and there is no cure in sight at the moment.
The Fay family have welcomed the situation brought by Mai Li’s situation with a mix of anguish and excitement, as the never ending lines of tourists and pilgrims have brought the badly impoverished family some substantial revenues and given them an important raise in their social status but cost them there privacy and intimacy."

There are even reports being posted of large crowds coming to see "Snake girl" but of course these are not true either.

The image is a photo shopped image and the story is Fake.

Thanks
~Tom~

Possible Bigfoot Track
Possible Bigfoot Track From Sighting

Here is a report of a bigfoot sighting that was send to me a couple days ago. The Photos were taken by Kyle and the height comparison was also made by him.

-Start Report-
Name: Kyle S******
Email Address: withheld
State: West Virginia
County: Ohio
Map Of Area:

Date of Sighting: July 11th 2009
Time of Day: 10 pm
Nearest Town: Wheeling
Length of Sighting: 2 minutes
How many Witnesses: None other then myself
Any Photos/Videos: Other then placement and possible foot print.  None.
Describe sighting in detail:
It was one of those nights when the moons so bright it lights up everything. I lived near Spiedel Golf Course in a heavily wooded area just outside of Wheeling, West Virginia. In an area densely populated with trees and other plant life the terrain is quite hilly rolling hills as far as the eye can see. The area I believe is owned by Oglebay park. It was 10 pm or just a little after my ex wife and I were on our way out to return some movies and get some new ones before the video store closed. I walked outside leaving the door to the house open, the porch light was on. I crossed the porch and walked down three steps on to a walk way that lead down to where our car was parked. I made three steps before I stopped. It was eerily quiet outside. As in no sounds not even crickets or owls. Just a strange stillness. I took a couple more steps and stopped again. I just felt like I was being watched and naturally I began to look around. I must of looked over "It", once just panning my head from left to right. It's eyes are what caught my field of view.

On the hillside adjacent from the house was what I could only describe as a very tall, very built man like creature except for it definitely wasn't a man. It was covered from head to toe in hair thick black mottled hair. I could make out its eyes in the light, they shined back at me a orange color, they were further apart then human eyes. It's upper lip was long it showed no teeth. It didn't seem threatened just curious and though I didn't feel threatened I couldn't move, I was petrified in fear. It's forehead was wide and the hair seemed to stop at its face, I could see fur on the top of its hands but none on the under side. It's chest was very muscular and covered in light fur sparse fur I would say and I could make out its muscles. They were defined it seemed like it was very strong. It's arms hung just before it's knees and it just continued to stare at me moving from left to right slowly. From where it stood it, it stood right next to a tree from my field of view I couldn't tell if it was in front of the tree or beside it. But the tree alone helped me get a good measurement on it. The creature was about 7 an a half feet tall. Not moving and watching it I began to panic until I heard my wife's voice from inside. I then looked away from it and back towards the door. Immediately after she stopped speaking I looked back to the hillside watching the creature walk away, with it's back towards me I could see the muscles in it's back and thighs contracting and releasing as it walked. My wife then walked outside and I attempted to point it out to her but she couldn't see it and basically told me I was crazy and that I was just trying to scare her. She could see how scared I was but assumed I was acting.

The morning after I walked around the tree measuring it and such seeing if it was really as tall as it seemed, I found a foot print near the tree an though I didn't have the items needed to craft it, I was able to take a picture with size comparison of my own foot and the indentations it's foot left in the ground. It stepped heavy, the ground was quite soft. This was my first encounter that summer but not my last. I believed in Bigfoot but I never thought I would see one in West Virginia of all places.
-End Report-

Here is the other photos from Kyle

Thanks to Kyle for sharing his sighting and sending in the photo.

The Shift – Belief In Reincarnation
The Day My Beliefs Changed Forever
By Dorraine Fisher

I never believed in reincarnation. Such an idea seemed ridiculous. Not to mention illogical. But there was a time about five years ago that things happened to make me change my mind.

I was going through a very trying period in my life, and, with all the emotional stress, my dreams seemed to come alive at night. They were so lucid most of the time that I decided to start writing them down. And I was so curious about their meanings that I decided to buy a dream dictionary so I could try to make sense of them.

Spike TV's Bigfoot Bounty - Ep 2 Review
Bigfoot Bounty

This post by Thomas Marcum, Thomas is the founder/leader of the cryptozoology and paranormal research organization known as The Crypto Crew. Over 20 years experience with research and investigation of unexplained activity, working with video and websites. A trained wild land firefighter and a published photographer, and poet.

Well, tonight was the second episode of Spike TV's Bigfoot Bounty, so once again I thought I'd offer up my opinion about this episode. Again, this is not meant to put down anyone on the show, many of these folks are acquaintances of mine.

So tonight the remaining 8 teams continued the search for bigfoot. The pace of tonight's show was much less chaotic than the first episode but still kept it's competitiveness.

One thing I think is being over emphasized is the masking of a person scent when bigfooting, we seen everything from rubbing poop on your body to eating it, and it continues a little in this episode.

Now on to some of the high and low points of this episode.

Dax and Rictor have a few interesting moments, one is when they find what could be a very large X structure. This of course is not explored on the show as the judges have no idea of what could be bigfoot evidence, they are just looking for DNA and a photo. Any true bigfoot researcher has somewhat of an understanding that bigfoot do indeed make various stick formations.
A potentially dangerous event happens when Rictor takes a pretty nasty fall into a creek. There where some very large rocks and luckily he didn't hit his head.

Tonight's first challenge was to take a clear picture of any kind of animal in the massive forest.  It is at this point some game cams are deployed by the teams. Ro and Justin manage to chase down a squirrel and take a picture of it. It was somewhat comical to watch them run this squirrel.

One part I found frustrating was when the judges review some of the photos captured by the game cams. Dr. Disotell makes some references to needing something for scale on deer photos? I think we all pretty much understand the size of deer but I understand needing something for scale.

The second challenge was to collect some bigfoot DNA samples. Most of the teams turned in various samples of scat and some possible hair samples. Here's where the show is really lacking, they seem to think you can't just walk out in the forest and find bigfoot DNA samples. Sorry it's just not that easy.

Some of the teams were fighting amongst themselves in tonight's show. The all girl team of Kirsten and Shaney were at each other pretty good for most of the show. It makes one wonder... If 2 girls are arguing in the forest and no one cares, does bigfoot still hear them? In the end they work things out.

The show took more of a turn towards "Survivor" tonight as several teams attempt to make alliances.  Now I don't know how this might work out as most seem to say they don't trust each other.

The Host and the two judges rip into the contestants for being "unprofessional" but it's just not feasible to ask the contestants to go into an area they know very little about and bring back Bigfoot DNA samples. Proving real proof of bigfoot is something that will take lots of evidence, not just a DNA sample. If by chance a contestant brought back a real Bigfoot DNA sample how would you know it was Bigfoot DNA? Do we have it in the data banks? Do we even know we can differentiate between human and Bigfoot DNA? I guess the people in the white coats know, I sure don't.

I can say that I did enjoy the slower pace of tonight's show but it appears from the previews of next weeks show that the fighting between teams heats up. In the end there just seems to be a lack of knowledge and experience  about bigfoot research from the judges and some of the teams.

Also I must mention Mike Merchant, He becomes an ant eater tonight and has a little fun out of his teammate. There is just something about a big pile of poop that he loves.

I guess I could go on but will wrap it up for now. I didn't think I'd be watching Bigfoot Bounty but have found it fairly entertaining and enjoy writing the reviews. I hope you enjoy reading them.

Thanks
~Tom~

Is there a monster in Chicago
Sea Monster?

Chicago Sea Serpent?
Is This The Lake Michigan Monster Caught on a Security Cam?

It’s not widely known, but over the years, there have been a few isolated reports of a sea serpent type creature spotted in Lake Michigan.

It seems that between 1867 and 1890, local newspapers reported sightings of a visibly scaled serpent some 40-50 feet in length, very dark blue, with a grayish-white belly. In 1867, a fisherman named Joseph Muhlke gave a very detailed description of the creature, claiming it came within some 20 feet of his boat. It was swimming about a mile and a half off the shore of the south side of Chicago.

Others claimed to have heard it making roaring sounds in the distance that were said to have sounded something like a bull. But sightings have been fleeting and few and far between since then. That is until this security camera footage of something interesting in the water at a Lake Michigan dock surfaced in 2012.

Could this be footage of the creature in question? You decide.

Here is another one of the recent reports that I got of a UFO sighting.

-Start Report-
Name: James H*****
Email Address: Withheld
State: Mississippi
County: Lafayette
Date of Sighting: Spring 1979
Time of Day: about 6pm
Nearest Town: Paris
Length of Sighting: 45 to 60 min
How many Witnesses: 3
Any Photos/Videos: no
Describe sighting in detail:
My father called me to our back yard where 2 objects were floating in the sky, one stationary, the other moving towards the other.
They came together into one craft and flashed red, green, blue and yellow lights, at some point, it looked as something dripped out of the bottom of one towards the ground.
Then they split into 3 craft, one went towards the north, another west and another southwest.
The first two moved away at a constant speed while the first shot away at a great speed and was gone.
I can't remember the order of the colors but each one was a different color after the split, one red, one green and one blue.  There was no sound whatsoever.  Nothing human made could have done what these things did.

General Map Of Area:

-End Report-

Thanks goes to James for sharing his sighting.

some of the many hoaxes
Popular Hoaxes

This is a guest post by Gordon Ambrose from The discerning man's squatch. Stop by his facebook page and give it a like. Gordon is a bigfoot enthusiast who employs critical thinking when looking at bigfoot evidence.

Anatomy of a Hoaxer and Why they are Fascinated with Us.
Why do some people try to pull the wool over other’s eyes? I think there are many reasons and to name a few, there is to push an agenda, to gain notoriety and to make a buck. Some of course are just for fun as well, so not all hoaxers come from the same mold, but those who deliberately misinform to gain a profit of some kind, we should try and peer inside their heads.

While I have been interested in Cryptozology ever since I was very young, the hoaxer is only a fairly recent phenomenon for me. I certainly was aware of their existence, but I mainly thought of it as innocent fun and a buyer beware sort of thing. I knew money could be made off of a good hoax and we have PT Barnum from Barnum and Bailey to thank for the famous quote “A sucker is born every minute” to know that if you make an outrageous claim, there will be many who will line up to buy what you are selling without so much as a second glance. (Actually he says a customer is born every minute, but when quoted customer is usually replaced with sucker and I believe that is because that is what he meant) In that respect you only have yourself to blame if you have fallen for such foolery.

As far as Bigfoot is concerned, hoaxers could be behind the brunt of the evidence pile. I am not making that assertion at this time, but I will contend that Barnum’s suckers have given many with a mind to, a fertile field in which to sow their seeds.

So what hides in the mind of one who would take advantage of a gullible soul? Some I think pull hoaxes as reenactments of something they feel they have experienced, but were not fortunate enough to capture anything proof wise that would substantiate their claims. They were unprepared for their once in a lifetime chance, so go about re-creating proof to back their story. These are not necessarily bad people, but they are not doing us any favors. One of my favorite videos could be one such act. The Freeman films, which I love, could possibly be Paul reenacting something he believed in, but wasn’t fortunate enough to capture on film. On this one I hope I am wrong, because it is one of my all-time favorite videos.

Another type of hoaxer has no love for Bigfoot other than the dollar signs he imagines will line his wallet. He is all about using ignorance to gain his notoriety and money. Of those, there are lazy ones and ones that go to extremes. The best videos and photos we have ever seen are one of two things. They are either a well-made hoax or the real deal. So mostly we know the names of those who are either very lucky or very creative in an unscrupulous way.

I want to talk about two pieces of evidence and describe the difference between them. The first is the Patterson/Gimlin film and the second is the Tent video by Rick Dyer. One by the way I have no doubt whatsoever is a hoax and the other I consider to be the pinnacle of Sasquatch videos, hoax or not.

With the PG film, the vidographers have the benefit of time and the lack of technology back then, to bolster their claim. While it is not up to the audience to prove a hoax was committed for it to be so, with PG the attempt to debunk it has gone on for nearly 50 years. I will even go so far as to say, with time and technology, there has only been a further push to its authenticity. This was not just a lucky, chance encounter which I had believed for a long time, but a two plus week excursion in the California Mountains where at the end they hit gold or at least something just as valuable. So hoax or not, what Patterson and Gimlin did was put forth the idea that a good hoax can make you almost as much money as the real deal.

Rick Dyer’s tent video and claims on the other hand fall flat on the source all by itself. You would seemingly think a hoaxer would not get a pass on a second, third, fourth or even fifth attempt at a failed Bigfoot ploy, but then you would be wrong. Why? Because what Barnum said is very true. It really comes down to two things. A person wanting something so badly that they suspend rational and critical thinking and second, as preposterous as the claims may be, they are made unflinchingly by the person making them.

So as a believer in Dyer, you cannot doubt that you have something invested in his claims that comprise the majority of your proof, because honestly, everything points to this being just another hoax and I mean everything, yet he still has holdouts.
So why can those who believe, take the scant little, and ignore the rest and form a belief that should be just the opposite? Because they need it to be true. If you at this point believe Rick at all, you either have not been paying attention or you have so much invested in his story that you will never see it any other way.

In some ways we can learn a great deal about ourselves when we watch this particular hoax in action. It tells us that there are people that go through life based on faith alone and no critical thinking that if used only in small amounts would steer you clear of this. I agree that some things in life we (the layman)do take on faith, protons and electrons for example, but Bigfoot evidence should not be one of them. We know the hoaxer is alive and well and it is his job to fool you no matter how outlandish his tale.

Hoaxers I am afraid are not a rarity and pop up you could almost say with some certainty if not weekly, monthly. You can say “bad on them” for doing this, but I think a great deal of the blame lies on our shoulders as many in our hobby have such a high willingness to believe, that they call a duck a duck before seeing if it walks or quacks like one. The hoaxer knows we can become enamored with shadows and tufts of blurry fur in the distance, so not only do we encourage them to hoax, but make it easy for them. There aren’t many other hobbies that allow such shoddy evidence to influence their core beliefs on a subject.

If I was president of this club (sarcasm) I would change the laws that govern our proof meters and once and for all state that if it is a blobsquatch, you might as well call it a shadow of something known and not…. a possible unknown. It’s fun to speculate, but it should never hold any weight lest we give hoaxers the very ammunition they use against us in their pranks.

I know I will never be able to convince all of you, but if we were to begin a trend of higher standards, we could find ourselves with a much more fulfilling interest and begin to discourage some of the would be hoaxers. There is a reason why wildlife magazines do not employ photographers who snap blurry pictures of any other animal and that is because that publication would quickly loose tenability and as a result, subscribers. In some way, that is why we are a minority, because we have some pretty crappy photographers, but still keep them on the payroll so to speak. I say that our hoax to evidence ratio is a direct result of our willingness to pay them any attention with crap that wouldn’t see the light of day in any other medium.

This article does reflect some of my frustrations as of late, but should not be misconstrued as I am giving up on this subject, because I truly do love it and I am fond of many, many in the community. This page was originally given birth by the very same thought process and I only want to help give us all something tangible to sink our teeth into and not something that others will scoff at. If Bigfoot exists, we should not fear better evidence, nor should we tolerate those who sully it at our expense.

You all have heard of the game three card Monty. You should know you have no chance of winning at that game, at least in the long run because you are being cheated by sleight of hand and not because you are a poor gambler. So why do we even walk up to the table when we know we can never win when it comes to evidence of the blurry and shadowy kind? Let’s not play a game that we can never win and call a spade a spade or a shadow just that, and no longer give a hoaxer a fertile field in which to ply his wares. Scrutiny is “OUR” prerogative and if it is not utilized we only invite more obscurity and those who use it against us.

So do you as a Bigfoot fan think we should continue to debate the blurry and shadowy? Do you agree that by having our standards low we invite more hoaxing or do you think it is just being open minded to debate it all? My point is, if you can’t tell if what you are looking at is a rock, a log, a bird or a Bigfoot, then really all that evidence is good for is knowing where to put your camera next time so that you can show us something more conclusive. It is ok to sit on your evidence if you are out in the field until you get something that adds up to something we can really discuss intelligently. I crave that new standard for all of us and believe me, while it will slow down a little bit in our blogosphere, there will still be evidence we can all get behind.

Describe sighting in detail:

I was about age 14 when this event occurred.   My parents would have bonfires with friends in on a dirt back road behind Providence Church.  This evening it was myself, my parents, the Huckabys, and the Mosleys.  In total there were twelve of us out that night for a weenie roast, at least that is what our parents always called it.  It was really more like something to keep us kids entertained and the parents to get drunk.
