A Haunted House Story

Some people think it is "cool" to live in a haunted house. But it really depends on what's haunting it.
Waking up from a deep sleep with the feeling of a hand around your throat is never a good way to wake up. And not when a voice clearly states, "Don't make a sound or I'll kill you."  And it's especially not a good feeling when you bolt up to a sitting position and realize there is no one else in the room with you. At least not someone visible at the moment.

And not a dream. The memory of the face leaning down looking at you and hearing the words, the hand upon your throat. Definitely not dream material. And so the journey with this ghost began.

Thomas Marcum is no stranger to unexplained phenomenon underground. Besides being a highly-respected paranormal investigator and researcher living in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in Southeast, Kentucky, Marcum has witnessed enough bizarre occurrences happening in the hills to make him start expecting to see anomalies rather than being surprised with something mysterious does appear. One of the places that has received much of Marcum's time and energy are the emptied coal mines throughout Harlan County. It is the history of mining that intrigues Marcum. Having worked around the mines since he was 13 years old, Marcum is familiar with much of the fascinating history coming out of the coal fields' abandoned portals. It is a dark and dingy history that defined the culture of Harlan County - hard work, blood, sweat and tears. But, there's more to the complex history of coal mining than is shared in textbooks, stored in local archives, and displayed at mine museums. The oral histories that are handed down by coal miners telling of their days toiling away far beneath the Earth's surface are some of the most astounding tales coming out of these hollows, surpassing time and continuing with new generations of miners and their families. It is these stories that Marcum looks for.

Most people think of the Ouija board as a Victorian séance tool or just a Parker Brothers game board. They see them used in the movies and have a good scare fest as the board summons demons and evil spirits that try to take over the people using the board.

But there is much more to this device than most know. Its origins reach back into history -- diving deep into man's desire to reach loved ones who have died or his desire to know what happens when we die.

We all know that the Pine Mountain range is home to numerous bigfoot sightings. But it is also home to a lot of other strange activities. Everything from ghosts to UFOs and even murders have plagued the mountain range.

Hornsey Coal Poltergeist

Today we take a quick look at a very odd and downright strange story. We probably don't think often about coal being filled with paranormal activity or of it behaving in an unnatural way. But this story might change all that.

On a cold day, Mr. Frost had a load of coal delivered to his home on Ferrestone Road in Hornsey. It would forever change his life and many others.

This is an old but interesting story. I will transcribe the article for easier reading. This is part of the legend and lore surrounding Resurrection Cemetery and the Chicago area. Everything from haunted houses, phantom hitchhikers, ghostly lights, and more were and have been reported for the last one hundred years. Probably the most famous of these tales is the Resurrection Mary tale. The lines get really blurred as you dig into it but there is no doubt that some weird stuff has happened over the years.
