Sasquatch Population in the Appalachians – 1600 A.D. to 2021 A.D.

I am Guy Luneau, the 58 year old (here in August 2021) retired chemical engineer from Arkansas who met Thomas Marcum for my first time ever and went into the Bell and Harlan County, Kentucky foothill forests with him on May 18-20, 2021 to search for Sasquatch evidence.  In May and June, Thomas posted the two stories I wrote, and they can be found on this website.  I was stunned to have witnessed the fifty-plus Sasquatch footprints in the mud that we found from at least 6 individual Bigfoots in two locations in just 2 days of poking around in the woods, as well as Bigfoot stick structures and sapling snap-offs that we witnessed.  Sasquatch sign was present in an astonishing abundance – much more than I had ever thought possible when I had asked him to take me on this two-day field trip.  It set my brain to work in ways that I never foresaw putting my brain to work.  Eye-opening.  Riveting.  Tapping into things that I had not seen coming my way.

Did I Have A Bigfoot Encounter When I Was Ten?
Wild Man Stories From My Grandfather
By Dorraine Fisher

Did I have a bigfoot encounter when I was 10?

Nearly 40 years ago the seeds were being planted for my love for the mysteries of the world and for all things cryptic. If anyone ever asks what shaped my unusual perceptions about the world, I always point first to my mother who gave me an old copy of Chariots of the Gods by Erick Von Daniken and who turned on the bigfoot episode of In Search Of with Leonard Nimoy and let me watch too. But second place always goes to my grandfather for showing me some weird things in the woods. And to this day, I still wonder what he was telling me because I didn’t have the presence of mind when I was young to ask the right questions about what we saw out there on one really strange day.

I was a pretty shy and solitary kid, so I naturally loved the woods. It was a good place to hide from the rest of the world. But Grandpa was the one who made it interesting.  I, for some reason had always believed that the fabled Bogie Man that children like me were always told about was a big, hairy bigfoot-type creature. Strangely,  I had this picture of him in my psyche before I even knew what a bigfoot was. So, I guess I was a natural bigfoot believer. But for some reason, the idea of this big, hairy creature prowling around didn’t really scare me all that much. Maybe I just loved the woods too much. But Grandpa and I never had a discussion about bigfoot. Bigfoot just wasn’t a thing back then. But I still wonder what he might have told me if I had asked.

Let me first state that I'm not talking about people who are skeptical or those with legitimate questions. I'm referring to those who are absolute about Bigfoot not being real.

Before I go any further with my thoughts and ramblings, let me first give you an example that happened only a few days ago.

Almost Live | Game Cam Retrieval | S1E9

I finally got a chance to do another Almost Live show. In this episode, I go out to retrieve my game cams and look for some ginseng. The reason for the long delay was due to the fact I hurt my already sore leg and had to take almost 2 weeks off. So, it felt good to get back out there and test out the leg.
Once I got to the second and third game cams, I was surprised at what I saw.

Almost Live | Sick, But Doing it Anyway | S1E6

Welcome to yet another episode of Almost Live. In this episode, I was not feeling very good but I sure didn't want a nice day to pass me by. I covered a pretty large area hunting for ginseng and looking for possible bigfoot sign.  I did find some ginseng and some other things that you might find interesting.

Here is the episode.

Almost Live | More Bigfoot Stuff | S1E4

Well, today was another fine adventure. I was able to return to the area where I recently found a couple of bigfoot structures. I really couldn't wait to get back into that area and check it out more. I had also found some pretty good ginseng in that area, so it was a double win that day.  Today did not disappoint at all. I was able to find several other bigfoot-related things. If you want to actually learn about some of the behavior patterns of bigfoot, you really need to watch this episode of Almost Live and the previous episode. They are packed with findings of bigfoot behavior.
For me on a personal level, it is exciting to find all these structures. I like learning and finding new things.

Here is the episode, hope you enjoy it.

Still frame from video.
A recent video of an unknown figure in a foggy forest has been gaining popularity the last few days. So, I wanted to not only share the video but also offer some opinions about it and an enhanced still frame.

There is not much in the way of a back story but here it is:

Some kids were playing in the forest and they noticed something moving in the heavy fog. They managed to film it but for only a few seconds.

Let's take a look at the video and then I'll offer some more info.

Here is the video.

Very recently a video was posted to Youtube of what many are saying is a ghost of a woman.
The video was shot using a Gopro type of helmet camera. It was shot in the Chonburi province, Thailand.

The ghostly figure of a woman appears while a group were riding through the jungle. Some claim it is the ghost of an old woman who died close to the area. The motorcycle group routinely uses helmet cams while riding according to the report.

The supposed figure appears suddenly but many including the witness, Jade Mungnon, say this is a ghost known to the haunt this area of the forest.

Before I give my opinion, lets take another look at the video.

Here is the video.

Enhanced still frame from the video
The following video comes from Telmark in Norway. Not a lot is really known about the video but there appears to be at least one if not two figures in the video. Some think these could be possible bigfoot while others say they could be extraterrestrial.

Here is what is known about the video so far.

A woman or man was reportedly filming a very foggy forest area early one morning when they noticed one or possibly two bipedal figures standing in the fog. They do not appear to be shocked or frightened by seeing the figures. The two figures are at a good distance away and can barely be made out. Some say the heads are much too large to be humans, this could be why some assume it is some type of alien.

Here is the video.

Bigfoot Hunting!

Just a little bit before I went on vacation, I took to the ATV to do a little bigfoot hunting. I returned to a spot where I may have captured a picture of a bigfoot and I scout around for some tracks. Now, that I have a vacation over I plan on getting out a lot more. I hope you enjoy the video.

Found in Oregon.

Oregon Research Update  - Stick Formations

Recently, Crypto Crew team members Bobby and Corinna Long were sent some interesting photos by Mitch.(Last name withheld) These are from their home state of Oregon and near them. The photos shows several unusual tree/stick formations. The above photograph is very similar to a formation I found in my home state of Kentucky. Here is a photo from the Kentucky formation. Both of these similar structures were found in areas with bigfoot activity.

Found in KY
There is a general consensus that bigfoot does do odd things with sticks. This would include tree breaks, teepees and other formations.

But that was not all the Oregon researcher found. Here are a could more photos.

Found in Oregon.
An "X" was found. There is some differing opinions on what an "X" may represent. Some think it is a welcome sign, while others conclude that it is a warning to stay away. It may not be for humans at all and it may be only meaningful to bigfoot, for all we know. The discovery of an  "X" formation is reported by many researchers. It often is found after some type of bigfoot report. I have personally found several of these formations. Most of the time the tree limbs have been broken off from another location and the "X" formed in a different place.

Found in Oregon.

Arches and tree bends found in same general area in Oregon. Now, we all know that weather can have this type of effect sometimes and it takes careful analysis to make a determination. Sometimes, we have to take into account if other odd formations have been found in the area and if there is a history of bigfoot sightings. Similar structures are often reported by bigfoot researcher from all parts of the United States. It is interesting and needs more study.

This is just some of the things us researchers have to keep and eye out for while in the forest. As a person who goes into the woods often, I find it odd that I mostly find odd stick formations in areas where there are reported bigfoot activity. That makes it easy to conclude that bigfoot might be doing these formations. While we may not understand what they mean, it appears to be part of bigfoot behavior.

The Oregon team has been somewhat limited by the fact it is fire season. During fire season some access is cut off and some areas you are not allowed to be in.

Thanks goes to Mitch for sharing his photos.

-Bobby & Corinna-

Here in my area of Kentucky, we have a growing black bear population. This has led to an increase in sightings and run-ins with bears. For many years now I have never carried a firearm while out in the mountains but that recently changed for me.

Over the last month, I have been out 4-6 times a week looking for ginseng. I enjoy the outdoors and I like digging the sought-after root and maybe I can make a few bucks at the end of the season. Well, about a week ago I was coming out of a place where I have been hunting ginseng and I passed another ATV going into the hollow. It is a guy I know and I later found out he had been hunting ginseng in this area as well. I later found out that while he was in there a bear charged him that same day. He was able to back up and fire off his pistol a few times to scare off the bear. He did report it and the Fish and Wildlife people came and set out a large trap for the bear but they never caught it.

On the day the bear charged the man, I encountered what I thought was a bear but I never could see it. I'm still hunting ginseng in the very area but now I have decided to pack my pistol with me. I have no intentions of shooting a bear unless it is absolutely necessary but firing off a few shots in the air or in the ground might stop a possible attack.

With that said, I thought it might be a good idea to post about what to do to avoid a bear attack and what to do if a bear charges you.
Here we go, with some tips. Remember, each person should weigh their situation and use their own judgments as to the appropriate actions to take.

   * Hike or hunt in a group if possible. If you go alone, like me, don't be so stealthy. Make some noise or do some singing. I personally have started to sing softly to myself but yet loud enough to give a bear a warning that someone is coming. This will give the bear time to move on.

   * If you see the bear at a good distance, back up slowly and/or find an alternative route.

   * If a black bear charges you, stand your ground and make some noise. Waving your arms is normally a good thing to do. Do not run! A bear can run around 30 mph, you can't outrun it. If the bear thinks you mean business, it may lose interest and move on.

   * Carry Pepper spray. If a black bear charges you, pepper spray will normally make it change its mind and move on. If you carry a firearm you can shoot it in the air or ground and the loud bang might get the bear to move on.

   * If none of this works and the bear actually attacks you, then fight back. Use anything you can find, sticks, rocks, or your own hands. Hit the bear on the snout and near the eyes. The bear may decide it is not worth it and give up. If you still can't discourage the bear and it gets you down, ball up and clasp your interlocked fingers over the back of your neck and pull your elbows in next to your face. If you have a backpack on it will help absorb some of the blows. Hopefully, the bear will give up and move on. If, the bear gives up and moves on, lay there for 20 minutes or more before getting up, as sometimes bears are slow to move on and will keep watching you.

Most bear attacks are defensive attacks, meaning the bear feels threatened by you, or is protecting cubs, or protecting a kill site or maybe you just startled it. In these cases, you can normally back away slowly and talk softly to let it know you are not a threat. Once the bear sees you are not a threat, it will move on. A predatory attack is even more serious, although much more rare for black bears. In this type of attack, a bear is stalking you and has the intention of using you for food. Playing dead is not a good idea and you must fight for your life.

The main thing is to be alert and keep an eye out for black bears. Avoid them if at all possible. Let others know where you will be hiking or hunting at and your expected return time. A black bear standing on its back legs only stands about 5 feet tall or less. But don't let that fool you, black bears can be very dangerous.

Enjoy the woods and be safe!

 Thanks
~Thomas~

ATV Ride #2 - Bigfoot Lives Here

I just thought I would share a short video of our recent ATV ride. This video and pictures are from my little corner of the world here in Southeastern Kentucky. The video also features some Bigfoot sighting information from this area. I also give a few updates on some of our current projects. I'm lucky to have all this beautiful forest land around my home, it's no wonder Bigfoot likes it around here.

Game Cam Images from Area 1

I know this may not be a very exciting post but knowing what animals are in an area can help us decide if the area is capable of supporting a Bigfoot. I know this area I call "Area 1" has plenty of fresh water and an ample food supply.

So I thought I would share a short video of some of the animals I captured on this last setup of the game camera.

Here is the short video.

Attempt To Return To Game Cam Spot Of Bigfoot Photo

Okay, so after releasing my Game Cam photo of Bigfoot, I got some "good job" comments and some negative comments but someone made the suggestion that I return to the spot or something to that effect.

So when I recently went out to set my game cams and do a little field research I thought I would attempt to find the exact spot I had the game camera.

It's been about 2 years now and I have been in this general area many, many times but trying to the exact spot proved to be a little difficult and somewhat frustrating.

Here is a video of my efforts.

some people see bigfoot in every photo
Bigfoot is that you?

Seeing Faces in the Forest
The Real Purpose of Pareidolia?
By Dorraine Fisher

Pareidolia, to those familiar with it, has become kind of a bad word in the bigfoot world. It’s often described as the illusion or misperception of seeing faces in just about anything. Clouds, food, smoke, rocks. It doesn’t matter. And it’s one of the major factors the helps keep heated arguments going in bigfoot discussions in the analysis of supposed bigfoot photographs. And how many items have turned up on Ebay because they appeared to have the face of some significant or famous person? It seems it’s really easy for humans to see faces in everything, and bigfoot photographs often set off the pareidolia smoke detectors. Simply show some people a photograph of a supposed bigfoot, and they’ll often see ten more primate faces in the same photo.

Mental health professionals still use the old Rorschach inkblot test to determine the psychological state of an individual. It can be a valuable tool in analyzing the personal perceptions of patients. So if we experience pareidolia and we see a dozen sasquatches in a forest photo, does that mean we’re bordering on crazy?

Probably not.

There’s always a reason for our little idiosyncrasies…no matter how annoying they can be. Usually if all humans possess a certain trait, like pareidolia, you can bet it was adapted as some kind of survival mechanism that helped keep our tree swinging, cave dwelling ancestors alive. And in modern life, when human survival is redefined and it becomes a nuisance, we’ll just call it an illusion or an irritation. But is that really accurate?

Many scientists are now embracing a theory introduced by Carl Sagan. He believed that pareidolia evolved in us as a survival tool; the ability to readily distinguish friend from foe.

Of course, it had to be necessary. When they talk of it this way, it seems like a very basic, fundamental life skill. In the daily life of our forest dwelling ancestors, it was necessary to be able to recognize our parents, siblings, and other significant others in the dense foliage of the forest. Or anywhere else, for that matter. In order to hide or make our escape, we needed to be able to recognize our clan member’s or enemy’s faces very quickly. We needed to be able to always see faces no matter what, so we could either run away from them or run to them for safety.

We all unconsciously look for faces when we feel unsafe or anxious. But why then, do we see so many faces in everything? Too many faces?

Well, it could possibly be that in the course of our evolution, Mother Nature felt it was better for us to be designed to see far too many faces everywhere rather than to see none at all.

But does that mean those faces we or they see really don’t exist after all?

Not really. But it doesn’t mean they definitely do either. We should always try to be objective.

And maybe we’ll never know for sure, but maybe we shouldn’t be so hard on those who experience pareidolia. They may have an insight we don’t have. We’ve all experienced it at one time or another and it can be a great tool. And it’s one good example of where weird is actually normal. How often do we find living proof of that? ********DF

Big Cats in Kentucky
Big Cat in Deane, Ky?
I just got a report of a large cat sighting in Kentucky, I don't think it has really been reported until now. I also have more information below the report.

-Start Report-
My name is Randy Isaac and I'm from Letcher co KY.
One night around 9:30-10:00pm in July or August 1997, a friend and I were traveling on hwy 317 going into Deane KY.
We were going down what we call Rockhouse Mountain when we rounded a curve and all a sudden a big dark colored cat with about a 3-3 1/2 foot tail, jumped from the right off an embankment crossed the road and over the hill. We looked at each other and I said, " did u just see what I saw?".
His eyes were big as silver dollars and he said, " yes, a big ******* black panther!".
I knew he had seen it because you would have to be blind not to have seen it.
I know how big it was and I know it was dark colored but not dark black, but I'll call it that just for the sake of dark and light.
I had a guy that lives over that way tell me he saw one in the same curve and he had no idea that we had seen one there.
I told him that we saw it there to and we couldn't believe it was in the exact same place. I talked to a couple boys that live down the road from me and they started talking about thing like that and told me they saw a big black cat about 100yds above that.
The didn't know about my sighting either. I again had to bring my sighting up and we all were astonished we had seen it in the same place. This was just last month that I talked to those boys. I don't care whether they saw this big cat or not, because I know what we saw, but this just told me that they must stay in the same general area.

Some guys that live above me supposedly shot a big cat back here on the mountain and killed it. They got scared that they would go to jail when they saw it up close so they threw it over the mountain. They told a few people about it but no one believed them, but a couple boys went and found it where they threw it over the hill and they swore it was a lion, like u see in the circus. They said it was huge and had a real short mane. I couldn't figure that one out but they also said it was a lion. I'm gonna catch up with them to find out more.

They boys that shot it were up there drinking and cooking and said it came up to the fire and they shot it. They swore it was a lion before those other boys saw it dead
Those boys aren't the type to make something like that up. They were truly afraid if getting in trouble.
They said the guy that had the one in Jenkins couldn't afford to feed it and he turned it loose. He kept it in a big cage beside the road and u could see it driving by. It was female. We figured that was it. Heads up in the mountain there
It was about same time. Said they shot it with a shotgun and it fell in its tracks. Must have been close.

-End Report-

It has long been rumored, and I believe it, that the old Tombstone Junction Amusement park, which had a zoo, turned all the animals loose when they closed up the business. The business closed suddenly. I always thought this could have been were the alligators came from a few years back in Knox county. So who really knows how they got started here, I personally think some have been introduced to the area by wildlife officials.

Anyway, I stumbled across this photo, that was taken in Kentucky by a trail camera. It appears to show a black cat. I really don't know who to credit for the photo, sorry. Some say this is just a normal house cat and it may be.

This next photo was reportedly taken in Harlan, Kentucky, but I have seen different counties listed as to where it was taken, which raises questions about the authenticity of the location.
I have no information on this photo.

Now before you totally dismiss the possibility of big cats in Kentucky watch this News video.

Notice how the wildlife guy totally dismisses the big cats, much like they dismissed the bear reports in my area for awhile, until a lot of people started seeing them.

Here is another report of a large black cat in southern Kentucky - Click Here

I have also heard some other local people talk about seeing black panthers in this area over the years, I do think there is something to it. If you have seen a big cat/black panther/cougar in an area that they are not suppose to be in, then please submit it to us.

A big thanks to Randy for sharing his sighting.

Thanks
~Tom~

Game Cam - Is it time to rethink how we use them?

Why Trail Cams Aren’t Working
How To Think Like A Sasquatch
By TCC Team Member Dorraine Fisher

I believe it was Einstein that described the definition of insanity as doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting a different result. So sometimes, when we keep doing something the same way time and again and aren’t getting what we want, we need to simply try it another way.

With the invention and availability of trail cameras in the last twenty years or so, bigfoot researchers have set them up everywhere they could, and have managed to get all kinds of great shots of all the wildlife in the woods. All of it, of course, except for bigfoot...the stuff we’re REALLY looking for.

One of the biggest questions about the existence of bigfoot is why, with all the strategically placed trail cams everywhere imaginable, why do we still not have a good, clear picture of bigfoot? Could the answer be simple?

And maybe you’ve thought of this too. But I’m going to actually say it.

Is it possible that our hairy counterparts don’t use trails as much as we think? Maybe we’re thinking they follow the trails looking for their prey, but what if they don’t?  For a very elusive creature, believed to be an ambush predator, hanging around on game trails wouldn’t be it’s best strategy. A creature of this size would surely scare game away if he was standing on the trail. And as humans use the trails, he would be more visible to us too.  So maybe hiding alongside the trails would be better?

Any other predators out there hunting other animals lower on the food chain are smart enough to know to stay off the trails. They skulk around near them hiding, waiting and watching for their prey. Would bigfoot be any different?

But when we start thinking about other places to put them, the idea becomes more complicated. With an estimated 747 million acres of forested land in the U.S., and realizing that one trail cam MIGHT cover 1 acre of land, we’re faced with the need of a lot of trail cams (like one per acre of ground) in order to be effective in getting one decent picture of a sasquatch...maybe.

But as discouraging as that is, it doesn’t erase the idea of using them. We still need to use them as much as possible, but maybe rethink their placement. Maybe start thinking more like bigfoot, and where would I be hanging out if I were one?

I would be in the roughest, deepest, darkest, most complicated areas I could find. Places where a trail cam might capture only a few feet of area in front of it.  And places that a human would have a real problem accessing.

So we’d have to be smarter than the creature we’re pursuing. But so far, it seems we’re not. And we can’t claim we are until we have plenty of clear shots of the them.  But, of course with this idea, the researchers job just became a lot harder. But it never was easy, was it?   ********DF
