Around the Campfire - Can we really Believe Our Eyes?

When we see something, can we really trust our eyes to tell us the truth? More importantly, do our eyes tell us something that can be interpreted exactly the same by everyone?

This is a big problem in cryptid and paranormal research as well as every disagreement known to humankind.  Everyone has a different view. Why is that?

New Possible Sighting in Oregon

On or around January 14,2016 at around 7:15 am a man named Chris was taking his daughter to the bus stop when he looked in his rear view on the way out of his driveway and seen what he thought may have been a bear standing on two legs watching them go down the driveway. He stated that there had been bear there before because they live off the grid that sometimes they store food items outdoors.

After speaking to me he was then sure he had seen a bigfoot instead since it had longer legs and much more size than a black bear.

Although he had seen it in the mirror he was sure about it now. Since this encounter they hear occasional noises not of the norm and have been smelling a sulfur/ wet animal odor from time to time. Area near the sighting, so as not to pinpoint his home.
2184-2514 Lees creek road, Myrtle creek, Oregon 97457.
Gps 43.1326425,-123.1493605

Corinna and I have explored this area quite a few times with one actual sighting in 2004 and juvenile tracks another time. Chris lives on the same road as we do but a few more miles deeper in the forest. This story will be continued as we establish a better relationship with Chris and his daughter.

The investigation is ongoing, look for an update in the future.

The Crypto Files - Top 5 Bigfoot videos!(Ep9)

This is episode number 9 of The Crypto Files. In this episode, we rank the top 5 Bigfoot videos of all time. Do you agree or disagree with the rankings?

Here is the video

Thursday, April 14, 2016

Running Time: 88 Minutes

First, let me start by saying that this movie is pretty old, it was released in 1994, by the then hot PM entertainment. The story line for this film is pretty straight forward with a few twist. A young boy gets lost in the woods and befriends a Bigfoot. Bigfoot tries to help the young boy get back to his family and the young boy tries to help bigfoot avoid crazed hunters out to collect a million dollar bounty for killing bigfoot.

The movie features a pretty solid cast, Zachery Ty Bryan from Home Improvement TV show, Crystal Chappell from numerous TV shows, Clint Howard from many TV shows and movies and Rif Hutton who may be best known for his voice over work in video games and numerous movies, he was also been on several TV shows. The film also stars Matt McCoy, who does a really good job in the film.

The Crypto Files - Is this a Real Yeti? (Ep8)

It's time for another episode of The Crypto Files!
In this episode, we take a look at a video of a yeti. The video was sent to us by one of our followers. The figure moves to the right in the video but what is odd is that at the first of the video, it is just standing there frozen. Have a look and see what you think about it...is this real or is it a hoax?

My Crypto World - Background, Old Cave & Dogman

My Crypto World - Episode 3 - In this episode I talk a little about my background and growing up, and I talk about some of my early research with an old local cave I also talk a little about Dogman and tell about some possible local sightings that could be a dogman.

Also, this is the longest running episode so far. I'm going to try and keep them a little shorter than this one.

Here is the episode

I was sixteen when I had my first Paranormal experience. The whole episode left me in awe. But scared me and sparked my interest all at once.

I had went to visit my girlfriend I'll call her Kate for privacy sake, but Kate lived in a old coal camp community. Coal Camps are small communities where the men that worked in the areas coal mines lived with there families. Most of the homes these men lived in where own by the coal companies themselves.
The house Kate lived in was at one time or another home to many people that worked the mines when
coal was abundant. Kate's family had told me many times they witnessed various things in the home like lights flicker, objects would move on their own, shadows where seen upstairs and downstairs, also noise and voices were heard at times. Of course I didn't believe any of it and would call them all nuts and would laugh when the subject was brought up.

I was challenged by Kate one night to go upstairs and say “I don't believe in ghost”... big mistake, so me being the brave 16 year old, I rushed upstairs and yelled to the top of my lungs “I don't believe in ghost”.
I was asked one night by her brothers Jake, Barry and Joe to spend the night since Kate was staying with a friend so I stayed. Jake didn't have a door for his bedroom so he had hung a sheet over the door frame for a little privacy. We were so into a game of Street Fighter When I notice the sheet in the door way move. I didn't say anything at first until Jake asked us “ Did you see that?”
We all responded with a "yes", when all of a sudden the door to the Balcony slammed shut. It shut so hard it shook the whole house.

We then spent 10 minutes fighting over who was going to go shut and lock the door then Barry said
he would go shut it. The moment he stuck his head out the door way there was a loud boom and he said "Nope I'm not going". So, I said I would. I get half way there when the door slams shut. I knock the boys down as I ran through the doorway.

But the episode that really done it was when me and Kate were on the balcony sitting, I kept feeling something rub up against my leg only to see my pants leg move and nothing was there. I kept feeling for a string or something but there was nothing. I also watched an Orb the size of a basket ball hover around the upstairs, on a few occasions.

After that I never set foot back into that house. The house stills stands to this day and I still have so many unanswered questions. After these events, I soon found others with my same interest and got into Ghost hunting and have been doing it on and off for a while now.

Nightbeasts Dvd
Run Time: 80 minutes

First let me post up the plot line for the movie.
"Charles Thomas takes his son Tim on a weekend hunting trip to the woods only to have that outing violently interrupted by the appearance of Bigfoot. What starts as a vacation turns into an intense battle of survival against malevolent forces."

Now, this movie has a little star power in it as well, it features Zach Galligan of "Gremlins" fame and it also has Robert Miano of Donnie Brasco fame. The film also features Audra Wise and while you may not recognize the name, I'm sure you have heard of some of the movies she has been in...like The Dentist 2, and Unspeakable, just to name a few.

Now, with all that going for it, I can tell you I had high hopes for this film and really wanted to watch it. But in the end I was very disappointed in this film. The acting was about as bad as it gets, and the bigfoot costumes were dreadful. It appears that most of the funding for this film went to pay the stars, who really in the end, just did not deliver. The film quality is good, the plot line has promise but for me the film just fell so flat. Maybe I was over expecting. Another thing that really got me was that some of the "facts" about bigfoot were things that were odd and not consistent with bigfoot , at all. For example, Bigfoot has eyesight like bats and can not cross car lights,...yes I know this is silly but it happens in the movie.

While, I was sorely disappointed in the movie, it seems to have found an audience and is getting good reviews. So, you may just have to take a chance on it and see if it is something that falls into your realm of entertainment.

I got the following report in over the last few days. I understand how the witnesses felt as I have had bigfoot pace me while in the woods. I wonder if there are other witnesses that have seen or encounter a bigfoot while being near the Loosahatchie river? If so, I hope they submit it to us.

 Here is the report

- Start Report -

Name: Judy *****

Email Address: On file

State: Tennessee

County: Shelby

Date of Sighting: 1979 or 1980

Time of Day: 1:00am

Nearest Town: Memphis

Length of Sighting: 30 minutes

How many Witnesses: 2

Any Photos/Videos: no

Describe sighting in detail:

We lived on Deadfall Rd. off Brunswick Rd. in Shelby County, Tn. We like to hunt and fish and do everything outside. One night we put a flat bottom boat into the Loosahatchee River (before it was cleared by the corp of engineers)about 1979, in the summer. We put in at the Arlington bridge about midnight and would drift down to the Brunswick bridge. We were frog gigging with spot lights and keeping the legs for frying. During the drifting we heard something following us at the top of the bank. The water level was low and trees were hanging over the water. We continually said someone is following us, but we couldn't see anything. Sometimes we would say it was a deer or bear, but we knew it wasn't. We knew what deer sounded like, but we couldn't explain it. Thru the leaves it was a two legged creature and very heavy. It made us very nervous and we were experienced outdoor people.
Snakes didn't scare us or any animal. It followed us for about 30 minutes. But suddenly a large carp jumped over the front of the boat and was headed for me and I thought the animal on the bank had me. I stood up and screamed and fell backwards into the boat. My husband jumped the other way to keep the boat from flipping over. We lost most everything in the boat including the light but it was floating and we got it back. My husband was happy I didn't gig myself in the back and I was happy the creature didn't have me. We pulled ourselves together and my husband said maybe we should paddle out of here, and we didn't hear the creature anymore and we never talked about it again. We got to our car and hurried home. I didn't know what it could have been until I watched something about the Big Foot on tv. I knew after all these years, it was a big foot that was following us.

- End Report -

I can just imagine that big ol carp leaping right towards you, Judy. I have been gigging myself a few times for fish. It can be a little scary, out there in the dark, in the middle of nowhere ...but boy it can be fun as well.
I have had bigfoot pace me a couple times and it is a scary feeling.

A big thanks to Judy for sharing her story with us and I'm glad no one was hurt when you fell back in the boat.

If anyone has encountered a possible bigfoot near the Loosahatchie river, then please file the report with us.

Thanks
~Tom~

Michigan Dogman

I know this will not be anything new for most of you but Dogman is an interesting topic and this could be useful for others. I have often wondered if what we now are calling "dogman" is really just what some call "werewolf" or are they a totally different species. Could they be related to Bigfoot? Lots of questions.

The Michigan Dogman is a cryptozoological creature first reported in 1887 in Wexford County, Michigan. The creature is described as a seven-foot tall, blue-eyed, bipedal canine with the torso of a man and a fearsome howl that sounds like a human scream. According to legends, the Michigan Dogman appears in a ten-year cycle. Sightings have been reported in several locations throughout Michigan, primarily in the northwestern quadrant of the Lower Peninsula. In 1987, the legend of the Michigan Dogman gained popularity when a disc jockey at WTCM-FM recorded a song about the creature and its reported sightings.

Over the last few days I have been talking to Derek about his sighting of a UFO. I think I have gotten
most of the major details now and wanted to share the report.

Here is the report in Derek's own words.

"In the winter of 05 or 06, I'm not really sure which, I had a sighting of something and I honestly don't know what. My wife worked nights and me days. We only had one car, so I would take her to work and pick her up. One night about 10 or 10:30 as I was about to leave, I was standing on the back porch having a smoke, we don't smoke in the house, and from left to right at about 30 or 40 feet up in the air and about 100 feet away a dark red or black flying object going slowly flew by.
It wasn't a living thing but it wasn't a air plane either. It made no sound, had no light, no nothing. The size of the thing was maybe five feet long and ten wide maybe less.

The sighting was at my home in Morristown, TN.  It was very cold that night, probably in the teens or twenties. I stepped out to smoke on my back porch there is a small park with a half court basketball court and a small softball field. There are street lights on the street that runs parallel to the park and they shine toward the park, so the small tree line that separates my yard from the park is silhouetted.

Out of corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of something flying I looked over and up and saw whatever it was. The thing resembled a predator drone. It was flying very slowly. It made no sound or no lights of any kind.
I watched it until it went out of sight. As I said it was about ten at night and cold as crap, no one was flying a model or nothing at that time of night. I remember feeling weird like what is this thing but it didn't do anything.
Thank you, Derek"

Here is an overview of the details
Sighting date: Winter of 2005 or 2006
Description: Dark red or black in color. No sound or lights. Moving very slowly. Approximately 5 foot long by 10 foot wide.

Now, the question is ...just what was it? We may never know.

Thanks to Derek for sharing his sighting with us and corresponding back and forth with me.

Thanks
Tom

I was talking with a friend last night on facebook and we got to taking about Pukwudgie. So I thought it might be a good idea to make a short post about this lesser known cryptid.

The Pukwudgie

A Pukwudgie is a 2-to-3-foot-tall (61 to 91 cm) being from the Wampanoag folklore. Pukwudgies' features resemble those of a human, but with enlarged noses, fingers and ears. Their skin is described as being a smooth grey, and at times has been known to glow.
In Native American lore, Pukwudgies have the following traits and abilities;
  • they can appear and disappear at will
  • they can transform into a walking porcupine (it looks like a porcupine from the back, and the front is half-troll, half-human and walks upright)
  • they can attack people and lure them to their deaths
  • they are able to use magic
  • they have poison arrows
  • they can create fire at will
  • Pukwudgies control Tei-Pai-Wankas which are believed to be the souls of Native Americans they have killed.
Native Americans believed that Pukwudgies were best left alone. When you see a Pukwudgie you are not supposed to mess with them, or they will repay you by playing nasty tricks on you, or by following you and causing trouble. They were once friendly to humans, but then turned against them. They are known to kidnap people, push them off cliffs, attack their victims with short knives and spears, and to use sand to blind their victims.

"Legends of the Pukwudgie began in connection to 'Maushop', a creation giant believed by the Wampanoag to have created most of Cape Cod. He was beloved by the people, and the Pukwudgies were jealous of the affection the Natives had for him. They tried to help the Wampanoag, but their efforts always backfired, until they eventually decided to torment them instead. They became mischievous and aggravated the Natives until they asked 'Granny Squanit', Maushop’s wife, for help. Maushop collected as many as he could. He shook them until they were confused and tossed them around New England. Some died, but others landed, regained their minds and made their way back to Massachusetts.
Satisfied he had done his job and pleased his wife, Maushop went away for a while. In his absence, the Pukwudgies had returned. They again changed their relationship with the Wampanoags. They were no longer just a nuisance, but began kidnapping children, burning villages and forcing the Wampanoag deep into the woods and killing them. Squanit again stepped in, but Maushop, being very lazy, sent his five sons to fix the problem. The Pukwudgies lured them into deep grass and shot them dead with magic arrows. Enraged, Squanit and Maushop attacked as many as they could find and crushed them, but many escaped and scattered throughout New England again. The Pukwudgies regrouped and tricked Maushop into the water and shot him with their arrows. Some legends say they killed him, while others claim he became discouraged and depressed about the death of his sons, but after these events Maushop disappears from the Wampanoags' mythology."
There are reportedly encounters of the Pukwudgie in the Freetown-Fall River State Forest in Massachusetts. Ironically, part of the FFR state forest belongs to the Wampanoag Nation. There have also been several odd suicides at a ledge in the state forest. The suicides have led some to believe that the Pukwudgie pushed the people off the ledge.

Here is a video done by Animal Planet about Pukwudgie.

Some say that Pukwudgie is nothing more than a troll or a hobbit, while others say it is a jinn because it shape shifts abilities. Regardless of what you may call it or what it's appearance may be, I think we can all agree that the Pukwudgie is a scary cryptid.

Thanks
~Tom~

Bob Lazar

Bob Lazar burst on the UFO scene in the late 1980's. He made claims of working at Area 51 and of reverse engineering extraterrestrial technology, AKA UFOs. He claimed to work in a site called S4 near Area 51. Lazar was interviews by George Knapp of KLAS TV station and this is where Lazar basically spilled the beans about UFOs and alien contact. Lazar told fascinating details of how the UFOs looked and worked. He talked about test flights and even knew dates of upcoming test flights.
Lazar also talked about Element 115. Lazar stated that Element 115 was what powered the UFOs.

The thing about element 115 (Ununpentium) at the time Lazar was talking about it, is that it didn't exist, at least not to those outside of Area 51. Element 115 was first created in 2003 by a team composed of Russian scientists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, and American scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Element 115 was not recognized by International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics until December 2015. This alone should prove that Lazar had some prior inside knowledge that scientist outside of Area 51 did not have and it adds credence to his claims. To my knowledge, he (Lazar) was the first person to ever talk about element 115.

25 years later, Bob Lazar talked once again with George Knapp. Has his story changed? will he come clean? Was any of it true? This video was originally posted in 2014 I believe but many missed it and it is well worth a watch.

Here is the video.

Of course, Lazar has always had his critics and those who doubt his claims. Some of his credentials could not be verified but it is very likely that after talking about Area 51 and UFOs, that much of his history was wiped out. Really, I'm surprised that he is even alive and that he didn't have some sort of "accident".

In the end, I will have to say that I believe Lazar, but wonder if or why they let him tell about it.

Thanks
~Tom~

Around the Campfire - How to be a good skeptic (Ep5)

It's time for another chat Around the Campfire with Dorraine Fisher. In this episode, Dorraine talks about skeptics. While skeptics may not be on anyone's favorites list, they can serve a helpful purpose. Dorraine talks about 3 types of skeptics and how to be a good skeptic. This episode will surely hit the nerve of a few people but it goes with the territory.

Hope you enjoy Around the Campfire - How to be a good skeptic (episode 5)

The Crypto Files - Mothman (Ep7)

It's time for another episode of The Crypto Files!!! In this episode, we take a look at the mysterious Mothman and the collapse of Silver Bridge. Are Mothman sightings a warning of impending doom? Some think that seeing Mothman is a bad omen and that something bad is going to happen.

Here is the new episode.

A friend alerted me to a video that was just posted a couple days ago. The video is of the river Thames in North Geenwich, London, England. For a brief moment at the first of the video you see a large creature of some sort descending back under the water. The above picture is a still frame from the video.

Here is the video.

The person who filmed this was on a cable car and seen something moving under the water. The mystery object surfaces and then goes back under the water. Some have suggested it was a whale, while others suggest it is a school of fish. I do not know what it is but it is a good capture.

Here is another picture of the creature/object, zoomed in.

So, what do you think it is?

Thanks
Tom

My Crypto World - Introduction and Bigfoot (Episode 1)

Okay, so I thought it would be kind of fun ...I hope ..to do another youtube series. This one should be easier for me to do as it should take a little less time. I'm still going to be doing all my other stuff but I hope this one will be more consistent and require a lot less editing. This first episode is called "Introduction and Bigfoot", it is a general overview of what the series is about and includes a never reported Bigfoot sighting. Hopefully, the series will also help me get over my shyness a little.

I hope you enjoy it.

"My Crypto World - Introduction and Bigfoot (episode 1)

Saturday, March 26, 2016

The following report happened less than a week ago. The report was not submitted through our "report a sighting" link but was instead told to us by someone we know very well.  The person who experienced this is a straight forward person, honest and not a person who makes things up. This happened here in my general area, in a place called Wallins Creek. Here is what happened.

Someone had passed away and a few people got together to take the family some food. This is a normal customary thing that people do for families that have suffered a death. Well, as they were standing outside the church, they heard this scream/howl from the side of the mountain. They told us that the scream "started off kind of human sounding" but as it went on it grew in volume and got much deeper.  Of course, after hearing what he described as "a horrifying sound" he ask the people standing with him what was making the sound. They told him they did not know but that they hear it all the time.

So, the guy who heard this got to listen to some sounds of an elk and was able to confirm that it was not an elk. This scream/howl happened in the daytime, which is kind of rare, as most howls are heard at night or early in the mornings.

As, for the area, I do know that some bigfoot tracks were found on a couple of the old strip mine roads. They were found by some ATV riders. This area and mountain range ties right into my area and an area of a few reported sightings.

With what I know of this area, and the person that told us this, I would say that the scream/howl was most likely made by a bigfoot. Of course, I did not hear the sound but the only thing we have around here that might do that type of sound, would be an elk. But elk was ruled out after he heard it. So, that would only really leave 2 possibilities, either a person or a bigfoot. So that makes it all the more interesting.

Events like this are difficult, people want to know why you didn't record it. But it happens so randomly and is so unexpected that there is just no way to get a recorder out. Now, the people who live in the area and say they heard the sound often, could possibly get a recording but I assume most are probably not interested in bigfoot so they don't even think about it.

Well, that's all I have at this time.

Have a great day and a great Easter Weekend.

Thanks
Tom

S.T.U.R.S - Ghost Hunting Table Discussion

This is a sit-down interview and table discussion about the previous night's investigation. The investigation took place in the Rolling Hills Asylum. The table discussion is hosted by TCC's Jason Morse, who also took part in the ghost hunt. There are various topics discussed and some good information about this investigation and past investigations.

Rolling Hills Asylum is a 53,000+ sq. ft. brick building that sits on a knoll in the hamlet of E. Bethany, N.Y.. It has long been a popular place for ghost hunters and has had a long history of being haunted. it did not disappoint the STURS team.

Here is the table discussion of the events.

An Interview With Cryptid and Wildlife Artist Alex Evans
By Dorraine Fisher

Here’s another of our favorites in our artists series. Cryptid and wildlife artist Alex Evans talks about her work and how it’s evolved. And she has a special message for bigfoot witnesses. Alex’s work seems to capture the true spirit of her subjects and bring them to life in a unique way. We hope she keeps doing it for a long time to come.

Dorraine: When did you first become interested in pursuing art?
Alex: There was no moment when I 'decided'. I have always drawn as a young child and sold my art from my yard as a teen. It just advanced over the years to encompass new forms of art, expression and learning.

Dorraine: Have you always lived in Illinois? And what influence has that had on your art, if any?
Alex: I was born and raised in Illinois but moved to Indiana, where I live now. Being relatively close to the Art Institute of Chicago growing up, it had a profound influence on my love of art of all kinds. Even the Chicago art scene and its neighborhood art fairs allowed me to experience all the ways local arts could be. As a teen, I'd take the train with my sister, who also was an artist, to the Art Institute on free day to spend the day taking in all the world class art. We'd go to a little place and use our saved money to get a bite to eat later and discuss art and ideas. It was a time of great inspiration for me.

Dorraine: What made you pursue sasquatch art?
Alex: Although I have always had a fascination with Sasquatch, I never thought of drawing one in the past. Things changed after I was diagnosed with breast cancer in '08. After that, I decided to make a list of things I would like to do within my means and capabilities of it actually happening, lol. At the top of my list was to see a sasquatch. Now that I knew they were not only in the Pacific Northwest, I felt it was a good possibility but I had to learn more about local sightings etc. I joined the wonderful Oregon Bigfoot, run by Autumn Williams, and began a new chapter. It wasn't long before someone suggested I draw what an eyewitness saw and I began working with the witness to get what they saw down on paper. I have done quite a few drawings from then on.

Dorraine: Have you had a bigfoot encounter of your own?
Alex: I have never had a sighting of my own. I have had unusual things like sounds happen and two separate wood knocks in remote areas of Indiana, however.

Dorraine: How do you attempt to depict the face of a creature considered by many to be mythical? Where does your prototype come from?
Alex: Since I have studied both human and animal anatomy and specialized in wildlife art in particular, this is where my basis of what such a creature may look like structurally. Of course I rely on the eyewitness to give me the main basis but I do have to put that onto a known armature of sorts, that is, a living being, known in some way to us, such as an early hominid, modern man and known animals. I feel it needs to be based on structures that are known and function in a real world. IF, say, it had wings and used those wings, it would need to be drawn in a way where form follows function, to be able to use those wings.

Dorraine: What keeps you inspired to do crypto-art?
Alex: I think it's that unknown aspect ~ the mystery of it all. Using my minds' eye to create something only described is challenging also. We all need challenges.

Dorraine: Tell us about your work with wolves.
Alex: Being a wildlife artist has led me to love many animals throughout my life. I have always loved Africa. I love the vast expanse where animals do what animals do best. It is the cradle of life for us humans too. Canids are of particular interest. I became a dog trainer in Search and Rescue for many years, working with K9 partners in searching both wilderness and disaster sites. Wolves are an extension of my love of dogs and my love of the natural places. Being at the top of the food chain, wolves sit in a unique position in the ecosystem where they are a necessary and integral part of everything in that environment. I participate in education about wolves and hopefully show how wonderful and important they are to all of us.

Dorraine: Do you have any other favorite subjects?
Alex: I am interested in the natural world of plants also. Birds too have played an enormous part in my life, having raised many types of birds and studied them up close. My father was a bird watcher and I learned much at an early age. I also help people with training and their dogs' behavior problems, as well as continuing to draw dog portraits. I like many subjects and never know when I will be inspired to learn something new in life.

Dorraine: Over the years, have you developed any theories or philosophies about Sasquatches?
Alex: While I keep learning from those who have had encounters and read others' theories, I mostly put it all on the table and ponder it. I think if I had a good sighting I might be able to better theorize on things, I don't know. While I am science-minded, I've learned that science only works if you don't conclude before the evidence is put forth and all things are explored.

Dorraine: Is there somewhere people can see a gallery of your work? Do you have a website or blog?
Alex: I do not have a website or blog at this time. I do have much of my work on my Facebook albums however.

Dorraine: What is your favorite medium for your art?
Alex: Whatever one I am currently doing, I guess! Right now I am sculpting animals and soon, cryptids. So right now I'm excited about 3D work again. I love drawing in pencil too, as it's very close to 'nothing', just graphite and paper and yet, can portray so much. Then there is clay, carving in foam and oil painting on canvas, where each has its unique properties. I doubt I will ever have a favorite because, like animals, each is cool in its own way and there is always a new medium to explore and learn from!

Dorraine: What else do you like to do outside of art?
Alex: I love music and reading interesting things. I tend to read 'how to' books/articles as well as factual books/articles on wildlife/all animals, the environment, mysteries and art techniques. I also enjoy learning more about dog behavior and how to work with dogs better. I also like hiking and enjoy days observing the natural world. I also like learning about survival in the outdoors, animal tracks and sign and plants.

Dorraine: What do you do for a living? And does that have any correlation with or influence on the way you pursue your art?
Alex: Until recently I was a plant tech. I took care of tropical plants basically. I know a lot about the care and propagation of tropicals. I used to be an art restorer in Illinois and learned so much about that trade and did sculpting for that job. The influence it had on my sculpting was paramount, as it had me be very detailed in my observations. I am not working at this time because of a muscle pain condition I acquired two years ago. It keeps me from doing much of what I used to do (like extensive hiking) but I'm hopeful that it eases in time and that I will again be able to fulfill more of what motivates me.

Dorraine: Is there anything else you'd like to tell us.
Alex: I'd like to end by saying that all the folks that I've drawn sightings for have a story unlike any other. It is not up to me, as an artist, to make conclusions, but to put down to the best I am able, what they remember at a point in time for them. A lot of people ask me if I believe they exist or believe what people tell me. And to that I have to say that clearly something is there......what that is, is up for debate (and will be for some time I think). As far as believing people's stories, I have to say that most have had something extraordinary happen which changed their view of life. Their life was not the same. This is not something I take lightly because it shows a willingness to talk about something that is often dismissed or even ridiculed, yet it impacted them in a way I can only imagine.
Drawing for people and giving them a picture has helped many in a deep way. If I can help a person come to grips with their experience and further help with investigating the phenomena then we are all in a better place. We all play a part if we work together to find and fit these puzzle pieces together.
