Researcher Spotlight: Bob Titmus

The Tracker Who Treated Bigfoot Like a Real Animal Long Before Anyone Else Did.

Bob Titmus is one of the most important and most debated names in early Bigfoot research. A taxidermist by trade and a tracker by instinct, Titmus approached the subject with a seriousness that set him apart from the showmen and storytellers of his era. He wasn’t chasing fame, cameras, or conferences. He was chasing signs: tracks, hair, movement patterns, and behavior. And he spent decades in the deep timber doing it.

Researcher Spotlight: Kathy Strain

Where science, tribal history, and field investigation meet.

Kathy Strain is one of the most respected voices in modern Bigfoot research because she brings something rare to the table: professional anthropology combined with decades of on‑the‑ground investigation. As a Forest Service archaeologist, she’s spent her career working directly with Native American tribes, documenting oral histories, cultural traditions, and long‑held beliefs about the “Hairy Man.” Her work gives the subject a depth and legitimacy that goes far beyond campfire stories.

Fred Bradshaw: The Woodsman Who Let Evidence Speak Louder Than Reputation

Fred Bradshaw never tried to become a Bigfoot personality. He didn’t write books, didn’t tour conferences, and didn’t build a public brand. Instead, he did something far more valuable: he went into the woods, followed the sign, and documented what he found with the steady, no‑nonsense approach of a man who understood the land.

Bradshaw was part of a generation of Pacific Northwest researchers who worked long before social media, long before YouTube, and long before the modern “Bigfoot industry.” His reputation came from consistency, field skill, and the respect of the people who actually lived in the timber.

Wes Sumerlin: The Quiet Tracker Who Let the Woods Speak First

Wes Sumerlin never chased fame, never pushed himself into the spotlight, and never tried to turn Bigfoot research into a performance. He was a woodsman first, a tracker second, and a researcher only because the evidence kept finding him.

Sumerlin had that rare kind of patience you only see in people who grew up living close to the land. He didn’t rush. He didn’t force meaning onto every broken branch. He watched. He listened. He let the woods tell him what mattered.

Scott McClean: The Quiet Tracker Who Documented What Others Missed

Scott McClean isn’t a household name in Bigfoot research, but his contributions are woven into the field in ways most people never realize. Working mostly in the Pacific Northwest and Northern California, McClean focused on track documentation, terrain analysis, and pattern recognition long before those became standard practices.

He wasn’t chasing headlines; he was chasing consistency.

Don Keating: The Researcher Who Put Ohio on the Bigfoot Map

Don Keating began investigating Bigfoot in 1984, inspired by reading John Green’s work. He quickly became one of the most active field researchers in the Midwest, focusing on what he later named “The Sasquatch Triangle”, a cluster of counties in eastern Ohio known for dense forests and consistent sightings.

Keating wasn’t just collecting stories; he was building a regional research infrastructure. He founded the Tri-State Bigfoot Study Group and the Eastern Ohio Bigfoot Investigation Center, creating organized teams long before social media made collaboration easy.

Ron Howes "Biker Bigfoot"

Ron Howe’s journey into Bigfoot research began when he was just 13 years old, the day he came face‑to‑face with a massive, hair‑covered creature in the woods of his family farm. That single encounter changed the course of his life forever.

Since then, Ron has spent decades trekking through forests, documenting activity, and chasing the truth behind America’s most elusive legend. In this episode, he shares stories from his many expeditions, the encounters that shaped his research, and the moments that still stay with him after all these years.

Ray Crowe: Founder of the Western Bigfoot Society

Ray Crowe founded the Western Bigfoot Society (WBS) in Oregon in 1991, holding monthly meetings in the basement of his Hillsboro bookstore. Those meetings became a hub for eyewitnesses, researchers, and curious locals, one of the first consistent public spaces dedicated to Bigfoot discussion.

Crowe’s approach was open‑door and community‑driven. He welcomed anyone with a story, a question, or a theory. That accessibility made him a beloved figure in the field and helped normalize Bigfoot research for everyday people.

Bigfoot and UFOs - Why Do These Two Phenomena Keep Crossing Paths?

Every time you dig deep into Bigfoot reports, something strange happens; UFO sightings start popping up in the same places. Not always. Not everywhere. But often enough that researchers have been arguing about it for decades.

Why So Many Bigfoot Sightings Happen Near Old Mining Towns
Abandoned tunnels. Isolated ridgelines. Forgotten towns. The perfect recipe for mystery.

Across Appalachia, especially in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, a surprising number of Bigfoot sightings cluster around old mining towns. Places like Lynch, Benham, Harlan, Matewan, and countless coal camps that once echoed with machinery now sit quiet, reclaimed by the forest.

But why do so many encounters happen in these areas?

Here are the leading theories researchers and witnesses keep coming back to.

The Matilda Story | Part 2 | The Erickson Project

The Erickson Project ran from 2005 to 2010. Its mission was to find proof that the sasquatch was real through forensic evidence: photographs, videos, footprints, skin, hair, and saliva samples.

Erickson described a typical day researching for the Project: Up in the early morning to check the area for any evidence that Sasquatch had come around. Checking for prints, checking if the food was touched. Then later in the day, he was "dealing with local residents and their issues". Maybe they would do some "B-Roll" videotaping. Then, just before dark, the team would go into the woods with night vision cameras and wait for the sasquatch to show themselves.

Russian Research | Part 2

Many independent researchers made their way into the remote areas of Russia; some with the intention of studying the strange man-like, hairy creatures, and others who ran across them while traveling or while conducting their other research.

K.A. Satunin was a leading student of vertebrates in the Caucasus. He had an accidental encounter in the Talyish Mountains. He discovered a female "Biaban-Guli", which was the name used by the southern Caucasus people. When he reached a nearby settlement, he tried to obtain more information on these hairy, man-like animals who appeared unable to speak.

Monsters on the Edge | Jason Morse

TCC's Jason Morse was recently on the Monsters on the Edge podcast to talk about his Bigfoot sightings and research.
As many of you know Jason has been with the team for many years now. His story, his sightings, and his research are sure to be of interest.
After having a Bigfoot sighting, Jason dove into doing research and had several other sightings. When covid hit and he lost work, he wrote and published a book. A Western novel, "The Road To Leadville". He was also in a documentary, "Bigfoot Witness: The Jason Morse Story."

Bigfoot in a Tree?

First, let me say I don't know where this comes from or who filmed it. This is a still frame from a video. A video that supposedly shows a bigfoot sitting in a tree. The video is getting a lot of play on social media but does it really show a Bigfoot sitting in a tree?

Rant: Why Are There No Clear Videos or Photos of Bigfoot?

RANT the first.

Did a lot of soul-searching before writing this post. It is one of the most difficult I have done. But I can stay silent no longer. So here it is - My Rant.

A common cry: "Why are there no clear videos or photos of bigfoot?"

Yeah, I get that. We are all tired of the Shadowsquatch, the Blobsquatch, the Stumpsquatch, the Brushsquatch, the Groupsquatch. Somedays it can just make us scream with frustration. We enlarge, we enhance, we manipulate and we squint in despair at many of these photos and videos before shaking our heads and moving on.

Exploring the Mountains | 6-19-24

The temperatures have been really hot in Kentucky for the last couple of weeks. Even when it is hot outside, I like to get out in the mountains.

On this day we took a short ATV ride and explored an area I rarely visit. It was a fun but kind of short adventure. We found a few interesting things.

Check out the video.

Bigfoot Research Area | 6-11-24

The wife and I finally had a chance to go hiking in one of my Bigfoot research areas. I have only been in this particular area 2 or 3 times this year. One of the times was a very cold winter hike I took back near the end of January. So, I was excited to get back into the area.

We found several interesting things and made a short video of our adventure.
Here is the video.

I'm a Believer

Thinking about how people express themselves concerning Sasquatch got the song "I'm a Believer" running through my mind. Neil Diamond wrote it and the Monkees made it a hit.
