It's time for our second installment of the short interviews series with people from the World of Bigfoot.
In this interview we talk to Don Neal, also known as Biggy Foot. Don is a good ol boy from my home state of Kentucky and is a member of Kentucky Bigfoot Research Organization.
Don has been a licensed and ordained minister for 40 years, the president and founder of 2 church organizations, an Honorary Kentucky Colonel, a trained tornado spotter for the National Weather Service and an accomplished guitarist.

Tom: How long have you been researching/studying bigfoot?
Don: 12 years "officially"

Tom: What got you interested in Bigfoot, Was there a particular event that got you started?
Don: 2 things. PG Film when I was 14 yrs old started my primary interest in Bigfoot, and a Minister friends 1st hand account of his sighting back in 1977. He was an expert scout, hunter, and marksman. He had the creature in the sight of his scope for over a full minute. It was a life changing event for Him to experience and for Me to hear. This story pushed me into serious Bigfoot research.

Tom: During your research/studying of Bigfoot, have you ever encountered aggressive behavior or felt in danger from a bigfoot?
Don: Not really. Some rocks thrown my way, and a mean growl once, but the scariest of all was a huge tree pushed over about 50 yards from me at midnight then the creature running away loudly.

Tom: It seems Skeptics are always ready to attack bigfoot research, How do you deal with it?
Don: Those who believe, need very little explanation. Those who do not believe, no explanation is enough. I expect Skeptics and therefore are never fully disappointed in them being around.

Tom: Would you like to see Bigfoot accepted and/or proven to the general public?
Don: Yes, if for no other reason than to prove "WE" are not crazy, and to make others aware "they" are there and need our mindful respect.

Tom: What is your favorite time of year to research/study bigfoot, When do you have your most success?
Don: Primarily, late Fall and early Winter because of lack of Ticks and Snakes. and Early spring because most wildlife seems to be moving more than usual.

Tom: Do you have a favorite Bigfoot story or report?
Don: YES..... my Minister friends sighting is still the most riveting and real story to me personally.

Tom: What would you be doing if you wasn't researching/studying bigfoot?
Don: As a full time Minister/Pastor I have plenty to do, but my every extra moment is spent studying this Bigfoot phenomenon.

Tom: How long have you been researching/studying bigfoot?
MW: about 6 years.

Tom: What got you interested in Bigfoot, Was there a particular event that got you started?
MW: Tent got crushed in middle of night then found a 19 inch footprint.

Tom: During your research/studying of Bigfoot, have you ever encountered aggressive behavior or felt in danger from a bigfoot?
MW: Yes a couple of times. They are not all Harry and the Hendersons.

Tom: It seems Skeptics are always ready to attack bigfoot research, How do you deal with it?
MW: Ignore them. You can not convince someone who has made up their minds.

Tom: Would you like to see Bigfoot accepted and/or proven to the general public?
MW: I don't think the public is ready for it, nor do I think science is either.

Tom: What is your favorite time of year to research/study bigfoot, When do you have your most success?
MW:  Spring, It's definitely Spring time.

Tom: Do you have a favorite Bigfoot story or report?
MW: Got tons of them. Can't decide which is best.

Tom: What would you be doing if you wasn't researching/studying bigfoot?
MW: I probably would have died. Bigfoot saved my life in more ways than one.

SlenderMan

Just who or what is The Slender Man? Some may liken the name to a super hero name like Spider-man or Batman but The Slender Man is a far cry from any kind of hero.

If you have seen the news, then you know about the recent events where two young girls, ages 12, lured a classmate into the woods and stabbed her 19 times. The girls blame it on The Slender Man, and say it was an attempt to become a "Proxy" for The Slender Man.
(Proxy is an agent or substitute authorized to act for another person or a document which authorizes the agent so to act.)
The stab victim did not die, thank goodness, and is recovering the last I heard.

The Slenderman is also sometimes spelled with a space, The Slender Man but either way it's origins are pretty traceable or so it seems.

The Slender Man was created by Eric "Victor Surge" Knudsen around June 10th, 2009 on a website forum called Something Awful. The website had started a thread in which people where to superimpose a supernatural being into photographs. This is how The Slender Man was born.

When Eric Knudsen submitted his photos, he also included somewhat of a little story snippets from supposed witnesses. Of course this caught fire and the Slender Man started burning up the Internet. The basic premise of The slender Man is that he stalks, abducts and terrorizes people, mostly young children. Eric "Victor Surge" Knudsen registered a copyright on the name "Slender Man" in January 2010. Which was a very good move for him. 

It didn't take long until other people where adding their own stories and art about The Slender Man. It got so popular that people interested in the paranormal called into George Noory's Coast to Coast radio show to ask about The Slender Man.

As the tales about The Slender Man continued to grow so did the popularity. Youtube videos started popping up and The Slender Man was even made into a survival horror video game called Slender: The Eight Pages. Several video game spinoffs were made and also a sequel title Slender: The Arrival.  There is also several independent films that are either in the works or that have been released. Once of which is Entity (View Trailer by Clicking Here), but a quick search on youtube will net you a pretty large list of The Slender Man videos. There is also a running series about The Slender Man by Marble Hornets on youtube, make sure to check it out.

The Slender Man managed to crossed over into real life, as people continue to report seeing what they call The Slender Man. Just take the recent story with the two girls and the stabbing, one of  the girls believes that The Slender Man can read her mind, can teleport and is watching her.

I'll admit I find the idea of The Slender Man very interesting and can see the massive potential for films being made about it. It does somewhat remind me of Freddy Kruger from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies but most in this current generation have not actually watch those films. The Slender Man will be their "Nightmare on Elm Street".

Eric Knudsen, creator of The Slender Man, said this:
"I just want something amazing to come of it... something that's scary and disturbing and kinda different. I would hate for something to come out and just be kinda conventional."

I'm sure Knudsen was talking about films and stories and not about real life murder attempts. I guess the question remains, is Knudsen's art created from real reports of The Slender Man?  On the forum he also posted this "I've heard there may be a couple more legit "Slender Man" photographs out there."

I knew I wanted to do a tribute to him, but when I sat down to write, I was at a loss. Not because there’s nothing to say, but because there’s so much. He was a bigfoot researcher, woodsman, master tracker, photographer, videographer, and graphic designer. His numerous projects included work on the hit TV show, Monsterquest, on the history channel, and work on various rock videos in the music industry. Bigfoot represented only part of what he did with his life, but it was definitely his greatest passion.

Phil believed in Bigfoot before it was cool to believe; before the earliest Bigfoot TV shows, and before the subject was accepted into the mainstream. He knew they existed because he’d seen one when he was a child in 1970. And he dedicated his life to searching for them and documenting everything he could about them.

"We all think we’re so smart," he told me in a conversation I had with him one day about bigfoot and the skeptics. "But if these creatures have made it their career to not be found by humans, we’re gonna have a hell of a time finding them. But they’re out there."
 

He believed that his Kentucky home around Daniel Boone National Forest just might be the real hotspot for Bigfoot in the U.S. And he had good reasons to think so.

"There are places in this forest where humans have still never set foot," he told me. "This is a perfect place for a large animal to live in peace."

And he was never afraid to say whatever he thought about them, no matter how crazy it might sound to someone else. He was never afraid to offer new theories about them based on his observations. If you called him crazy, he didn’t care. He was a true leader in the field and he knew he had nothing to prove to anyone. He’d been there and done that. He’s one of those who set the standard for research the way it exists today.

So I was a little surprised a couple of years ago when he honed in on me and struck up a friendship. He’d actually read my work with The Crypto Crew and encouraged me to keep going. To try to introduce new ideas and new ways of thinking in the way research is done. He knew the community wasn’t thinking broadly enough. He was an outside-the-box thinker whose greatest strength was in his knowing he didn’t know everything and would always need to challenge his own ideas, as well as everyone else’s, until solid proof was on the table. He shaped my view about the subject and shaped the way I’ll forever think about the world and the nature of reality too.

He was a legend, though I know he’d laugh hysterically if I’d ever said that to his face. He considered himself an old Kentucky boy first and foremost. But he was most certainly one of a kind, and he will be missed.

I agonized about what to say here. But when I was looking over what I had to use to make the point, I knew that I had to allow his own material to speak for itself. The real man shines through in every video clip. Rest in peace, my good friend. It won’t be the same here without you. ******DF

NASA to test new craft

Look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane .....nope it's NASA's new saucer shape space craft.
NASA will be testing this new saucer shaped craft on Tuesday (6/3/14). This new spacecraft is reportedly going to be used for landing payload on Mars, That is assuming it passes all these upcoming test flights.

NASA’s saucer-shaped experimental flight vehicle, the Low Density Supersonic Decelerator, or LDSD, is prepared for a Range Compatibility Test at the US Navy’s Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kaua‘i, Hawaii.
What will it take to land heavier spacecraft on Mars? How will engineers slow large payloads traveling at supersonic speeds in a thin Martian atmosphere? Can this be done?


NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility is playing an integral role in potentially answering those questions with the Low Density Supersonic Decelerator mission, or LDSD.

To conduct advanced exploration missions in the future and safely land heavier spacecraft on Mars, NASA must advance the technology of decelerating large payloads traveling at supersonic speeds in thin atmospheres to a new level of performance. The current technology for decelerating payloads dates back to NASA’s Viking Program, which placed two landers on Mars in 1976. That same technology is still being used and most recently delivered the Curiosity rover to Mars in 2012.
Future robotic missions to Mars and even future human exploration will require more massive payloads than previously sent to the surface of the Red Planet. To accomplish these goals, NASA is developing new systems to deliver this important cargo to the surface of Mars.


NASA scientists and engineers borrowed a technique used by the ‘o’opu hue, also known as the Hawaiian pufferfish. The technique? Rapid inflation. For the pufferfish, it is simply a defense mechanism. For NASA, it is potentially the element that links to the future of space exploration.

Set for a test launch in early June from the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii, LDSD will use a 20-foot diameter, solid rocket-powered balloon-like vessel called a Supersonic Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator (SIAD) to test these capabilities.

To duplicate many of the most important aspects of Mars’ thin atmosphere, NASA plans to use the very thin air found high in Earth’s stratosphere as a test bed for the LDSD mission.
To reach the desired altitude of 120,000 feet, the LDSD project will use a helium-filled scientific balloon provided by NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility and Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility. When fully deployed, the balloon itself is over 34 million cubic feet. At that size alone, one could fit a professional football stadium inside it. The material that makes the balloon, a very thin film called polyethylene that is similar thickness to that of sandwich wrap, will lift the massive test article to 120,000 feet.

At that altitude, the test article will be detached from the balloon and a solid rocket motor will be employed to boost the test article on a trajectory to reach supersonic speeds (Mach 4) needed to test the SIAD.

Once at supersonic speeds, the deployment and function of the inflatable decelerators will be tested to slow the test article to a speed where it becomes safe to deploy a supersonic parachute. The balloon and test article will all be recovered from the ocean.

Two recovery vessels, Kahana and Konua, will recover the test article and balloon respectively. Before the articles can be recovered, a G-2 and a C-26 aircraft will focus on determining positioning of the articles for recovery. Wallops, with extensive experience vehicle recovery, will oversee the recovery operations for the LDSD mission.

In addition to the balloon operations and oversight of recovery, Wallops is the range services coordinator, has provided the core electronics for the test article and electrical ground support equipment.

NASA has identified six potential launch dates for the balloon carrying LDSD: June 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 14. The June 3 launch window extends from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. HST, or 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. EDT. The test can be viewed live on NASA TV beginning at 7:45 a.m. HST (1:45 p.m. EDT) or on the web at: http://www.nasa.gov/ntv


This could lead to some exciting times again for NASA and our space exploration.

What is this?

For those who may not know, Chris Light has been documenting unknown aircraft around his home for many year now. He is also retired from the USAF making his opinion more valuable because he knows about the many different kinds of military aircraft and their speeds. We have worked on some of Chris's videos in the past. He filmed 3 UFOs back in 2013 and we did an enhancement of the video (Post found Here). More recently he filmed an unknown tumbling object and we attempted to enhance it. (Post found Here) It should also be noted that Chris lives fairly close to a military base.

In this current photo, Chris was out taking pictures of the beautiful sky (He is also has a photography company) and later noticed this object in the photo. He ask me to attempt to enhance the photo in hopes of revealing what the object actually was, be it bird or unknown. Here are my efforts.








Here is the object zoomed in and some sharping and anti-aliasing applied. Still can't really tell for what the object actually is but it for sure is there. It don't really look like a bird  but it could be just because of the angle.

Old Photo of Cudjo Caverns (Gap Cave)

On Memorial Day 2014, I finally got to visit Cudjo's Caverns, which is now known as Gap Cave (again). Growing up I can remember our family driving by this tourist stop many times but we never did go in and take the tour. As I grew older, Cudjo's Caverns was shut down, and the road going past it was closed off and later removed, this was done because the Cumberland Gap Tunnel was completed and you no longer had to drive over this dangerous, curvy road to visit Tennessee and Virginia. Many lives have been lost crossing this mountain.

Once we heard that the Caverns were back open and that the Cumberland Gap Park Rangers were giving guided tours, we decided to make reservations.

I WAS ON HWY 72 ABOUT 3 MILES FROM 119 WHEN THIS THING CAME OUT IN THE ROAD IT WAS BIG AND BLACK AND A COAL TRUCK HAD TO STOP TO . THEN IT WENT OVER THE HILL AND CROSS THE RAIL ROAD TRACKS AND WAS GONE. I ANT NEVER SEEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS IT WAS BIG AND BLACK IT LOOK LIKE A HUMAN.

Now here is second report, it is from 2001 and in the same general area. This person has ask to remain anomalous.

It was in late summer of 2001, it was me and one of my sons and one of my nephews. We where out walking and talking & trying to scare each other on Cardinal Rd and as we came to the strip jobs there was something standing right in the middle of the road on the strip job on our left ,well my son keep saying it was a tree but I kept telling him it wasn't a tree because I walked there to many times.

I always loved walking on the strip jobs where there's no people and no traffic, it stood still as still can get, it did not move at all but it was about 7 to 8 ft tall it was on 2 legs. I cant say if there's was any hair or not because I told my son and nephews lets run and we did, but as we came closer to the house I said to my son lets get my pistol and a flash light and I will show you its not a tree. And we did but when we got back out to the strip job it was gone .
I'm not saying it was a big foot because I'm not sure if I believe in them myself but I'm not sure it wasn't one either.

Recreation of event.

I was on a group father and son fishing trip at Stampede Lake.  All the adults were asleep in one tent and all the sons were split up into two more.
I was laying awake - couldn't sleep - listening to everyone else snore.
 
Suddenly the tent flap was opened and about a 5 foot tall "person" was standing there looking in.
I grabbed my flashlight and shined it into its' face.  It was a hairy being, with not much on the black face.
 
We both screamed and woke everybody up.  It dropped the tent flap and ran.
We heard sounds down by the lake that I still have never heard in 35+ more years as an outdoorsman.  I cannot call the sound "horse-like" per se, but that would be the closest thing I could describe it to.

Everyone woke up startled and got mad at me thinking I was making it up.  I was told I was nuts, crazy, lying and just about everything else under the sun.  Even my own father ridiculed me.

I remember vividly the look of surprise on its' face.  When it screamed with me, I remember seeing its' eyes go wide and the whites showing, as well as the flashlight beam reflecting off of a row of perfectly straight teeth in the front.  I really cannot say I saw canine teeth.  Just straight, flat, whitish teeth and gums.

The next morning we walked down to Stampede Lake to fish and there were two sets of larger tracks that the tracks of the small one seemed to join up with.

I was so shamed into being quiet about this for so long, I told so very few people since.
I am damn sure I saw a juvenile bigfoot open my tent, scream and run off towards his parents' calls for him.

Yowie track castings

Recently I set out to gather some information on Australia’s version of Bigfoot known as the Yowie. I thought it would be easy, but it seems it’s not easy to be a Yowie researcher. And plentiful information on the subject is hard to come by. But slowly, I’ve managed to collect of few details to share. I wanted to find if we’ve been getting accurate information about a supposed flesh and blood creature, or just sensationalized tales of a mythical legend. The truth is less romantic but also more intriguing.

Here in the U.S. bigfoot researchers may suffer a lot of frustration and some ridicule from the public, but they also enjoy many fans and admirers, and our culture is slowly coming to accept the idea that Bigfoot just might be real. Or at least they’d like them to be. And even the TV reality shows that we sometimes love to hate about the subject at least bring the strange world of the hairy ones directly into the cultural sphere. Here, Bigfoot is a star. Kids love this stuff…and so do many adults.

But in Australia… the Yowie hasn’t made it into the limelight. Nor have Yowie researchers. There, the Yowie is considered by most to be a creature of myth, and nothing more. End of story. No TV shows, no celebrity status, no central sightings database like the BFRO (Bigfoot Field Research Organization), and only a scant few tangible internet information sources. Yowie researchers might just be the loneliest of all the researchers.

But just like here in North America, tales of wild men permeate the aboriginal culture in Australia, so the subject can’t be completely ignored. There is almost always some truth to legend. And this is one of the stipulations of modern researchers when they start their searches for any cryptids. They have to ask the question whether all sightings reports are very new, or if they’ve been continual throughout the course of history in certain regions. If stories are handed down from generation to generation by natives for centuries, coupled with modern stories too, we have to believe there might be something to them. At least that’s a place to start.
 

Yowie Stick Formation

The name "Yowie" comes from the Australian aboriginal word for "yahoo," and there are two known types. The larger and more often noted 7- foot creature is sometimes known as the Dooligarl. And the smaller, lesser known variety is called the Junjudee. But there aren’t too many other distinctions between Yowies and our very own bigfoot. In fact, the similarities are uncanny.


I’d always heard that Yowies are notoriously aggressive, setting them apart from other similar hominids like bigfoot. Movies and fables about the Yowie have cemented this idea in our minds. But according to one researcher this is not generally the case. It is surmised that those who might encounter them, misinterpret the situation guided by their own fear and adrenalin.

However, it has been suggested they are fiercely territorial, with reports of people having been chased, knocked over, stalked, wrestled, placed in the forks of trees, roared at, and spied on through windows at night. But no human fatalities or other such tragedies are reported.

Just like here, a wide demographic of people report seeing them. They are reported more often in the mountainous and forested areas. They are said to perform near impossible feats, including invisibility, high-speed running, the ability to simply vanish and appear from nowhere. They are reported primarily at times in the order of dusk, dawn, night time, and then daytime. They have glowing bright yellow eyes or bright red eyes. They build both stick and rock structures. No bones have ever been found. No clear photos or videos have been taken. They give off sudden and foul, repugnant odors when encountered. Their canine teeth are said to protrude over their lower lips. They have sloping foreheads, broad shoulders, sagittal crests, and their head is set squarely on the shoulders with no visible neck.

Dogs react with extreme barking or extreme fear where they attempt to hide immediately prior to an encounter. Domestic cats have been known to disappear. Dogs have been said to have been viciously attacked. Yet, according to Australians, Yowies don’t even exist.

Does any of this sound familiar?

So how do we not come to the conclusion that these Australian primates are indeed just an isolated cousin of the sasquatch. If I didn’t believe it before, I certainly believe it now.
 

Possible Young Yowie Track

But what I found most intriguing of all in the whole circle of Yowie controversy are the details in the reports. Australians who’ve encountered them describe the same details over and over again that match exactly the details described in bigfoot encounter reports, including any and all strange behavior that we’ve all scratched our heads over and wondered a tiny bit if these creatures really do have magical abilities. The same details are described by people on the opposite side of the world, on an isolated continent. Most of them know nothing about our bigfoot, and often didn’t believe in them until they saw them with their own eyes. That, to me, is very telling about their existence overall.
 

But I thought it was important to note one key difference. Some Yowie sightings are compared to some reports of "shadow people." The community of believers in Australia is split among those who believe them to be flesh and blood creatures, some who believe they’re something paranormal, and those that have other beliefs entirely. But, there does seem to more focus on the idea of a paranormal aspect in Yowies by the community. And this may be due partly to the fact that no Yowie hair or DNA has ever been found.

But Yowie researchers are just like Bigfoot researchers. They only want solid proof once and for all. And a little respect wouldn’t hurt either. *******DF
