Vacationing with Ghost
by Sharon Day

I just finished up reading Vacationing with Ghost by Sharon Day. I think, I read this book faster than I have any other book in recent memory, which is a testimony to the author for keeping me interested.

Day writes about her childhood days in her family's summer home. The local folks in the area are an interesting lot and Day does a good job capturing their appearances and personalities.

While reading the book, you get the feeling you are there, feeling the sand on the bottom of your feet, smelling the water or maybe the sounds of an approaching storm. Day does an excellent job at detailing the landscape and describing her feelings.

While this book is essentially a glance into Sharon Day's brushes with the spirit world as a youth growing up, it is also much more. It is a glimpse into her personal and family life that will bring back memories of the readers childhood.  Remember, before the Internet, how kids used their on imaginations and made up games to play. I for one, remember growing up and playing "Cops and Robbers". We would use our bikes and chase each other for hours. Kids don't seem to play like this nowadays, maybe they still should.

Vacationing with Ghost is filled with everything from creepy things to adventure to interesting people to pirate tales and more. Where the book really nails it down though, is the ending. I will not give it way but I can't think of any better way for this book to have ended.

I should also note a couple other things about the book that some might find interesting. Firstly, the book has quite a few pictures which really lends to the story and Secondly, there are some actual home cooking recipes after the ending. If you're like me, the recipes will come in handy.

So in closing, I can say I truly enjoyed the book and enjoyed learning more about Sharon Day and her family. I recommend you give the book a read, especially if you are interested in ghost and have a sense of adventure.

Ghost: A Natural History: 500 years of searching for proof
by
Roger Clarke

Just in time for Halloween and filled with ghost and haunting tales dating back into the 1600's, it's Roger Clarke's Ghost: A natural history: 500 years of searching for proof. Yeah, it's a long title but it's very fitting.

As some of you may know, I have a hard time reading most books because they tend to not hold my interest and end up just laying around. Well, I'm happy to say this is not the case with this book. It has held my interest with not only it's recounting of very old hauntings but also with it's large list of famous people. There are many famous names in the book that you will recognize and learning about their involvement in ghost, hauntings and research that will fascinate you...it sure did me. From John Wesley to Charles Dickens to Harry Houdini and numerous Dukes, Earls and Vicars, learn how they helped shape the paranormal field to what it is today.

This book is more than just a bunch of ghost stories, it shows how some of these famous tales were debunked and how some led to lawsuits, destroyed lives, exposed secrets and caused deaths.  It's also fascinating to read and understand how ghost stories evolved from knocks and bangs to seances with full body apparitions.

Ghost: A natural history: 500 years of searching for proof not only manages to be entertaining but it is also educational. I found a great wealth of knowledge in it.

At times the book takes a look at how various classes in society were thought of when it came to seeing ghost and some of the extremes taken to try and expose fakes. It explores the mob mentality of the "ghost mobs" that would gather at haunted houses. Sometimes hundreds of people would gather at haunted houses, some walking for miles, in hopes to get a glimpse of a ghost.

This book is filled with over 350 pages of history, creepy tales, knowledge, murder, pictures and so much more.

I highly recommend it.

Samuel Sasquatch by Anthony Paolucci
Samuel Sasquatch
written by
Anthony Paolucci

I received this book a couple weeks ago and finally got some free time to read it. I enjoyed the book, even though it is directed towards children, it was still entertaining for me.

You get a glimpse of the mischievous and adventurous behavior of a young sasquatch named Samuel. Samuel finds many humans to attempt to interact with but most run away in fear but he does not give up. Samuel has a goal to make some human friends so he keeps trying.

The book has a very touching ending that is sure to tug at your heart strings just a little.
Samuel Sasquatch is relatively a short book clocking in at only 28 total pages, including art work, but the art work is well done and compliments the story nicely.

So I would recommend this book if you have kids or just want a quick enjoyable read for yourself.
It is a hardcover book so it is sure to last for years and could be passed on to grand kids. It would also make a great bedtime read for you and your children.

Thanks
Tom

Stranded In The Company of A Legend?
J.M. Bailey’s "Eve" Is A Winner

Book Review by TCC Team Member Dorraine Fisher

I’m always on the hunt for stories about sasquatches that have a little bit different spin and flavor.

I’m often not too enchanted with bigfoot movies that portray them as being evil monsters on the hunt for humans to kill or eat.

So I was more than happy to read Eve by J.M. Bailey. This bigfoot story is, if you’re a believer, one that’s great to imagine could happen to any one of us. A young woman, Anna, decides to go hiking in the Northern California wilderness in the more volatile weather season only to have her access road be washed out by rain. Stranded miles from civilization, she’s faced with a difficult dilemma of survival when she suddenly notices an odd "tree stump" in the distance and the "most rancid, curdling stench" she could ever imagine.

Could it be?

Yes, it is. Eve is one of the more idyllic bigfoot stories in its very charm and scope, and lends a soft side to our hairy friends that many of us can relate to. And it serves as a reminder to revere and respect nature and all those things we don’t understand. As Anna experiences such horrors like being pursued by a giant male and the wonder of human-like compassion from "Eve", this story chronicles a young woman’s journey of discovery. She vows to learn as much as she can about these creatures as she knows they could, at any moment, disappear into the forest forever like legends often do.

I recommend this book to anyone who believes. But I would not recommend it for young children due to some adult language content.

All in all, I found it to be a beautiful story, fast-paced and full of insight. Definitely a winner. ******DF
