October is the month in which we talk about ghost and goblins. It seems we tend to hear some good ghost stories in the month of October. I ran across and good one today and wanted to share it. It comes from the Heartland Series which is produced by WBIR Channel 10. The original air date is 1984.
Here is the episode.

Mission Point Resort |
Today, I want to talk about my trip to Mackinac Island and more specifically about the Mission Point Resort. While I did not actually stay in the resort the history of haunting is intriguing to say the least. The island in general has some creepy history and I hope to share more about it in the coming days.
As for the Mission Point Resort, lets first look at some of it's history. Lets start with the name "Mission Point". In the 1820's , Reverend William Ferry built "Mission House" to house and teach Indian children. A few years later he established "Mission Church". The Southeast end of Mackinac Island became known as "Mission Point".
In 1954 more structures started being built in Mission Point. This included a theater and lodges. It was completed in 1957 and later in 1958 a movie sound stage was added. In 1979 that very sound stage was used to film the motion picture "Somewhere in Time" starring Christopher Reeve.
There was an old Indian prophecy that stated the following "Someday, on the east end of the Island, a great tepee will be erected. All nations will come there and learn about peace." Oddly enough, the Main Lobby is one of the most distinctive architectural structures on the Island. Nine-ton majestic trusses, converging at a height of 36 feet, resemble a 16-sided tepee.
Another little bit of interesting history, is that in 1970 the famous evangelist Rex Humbard purchased this structure. In 1977 Humbard sold the property and over the years it had some name changes. Over the years it was sold a few more times and the name was changed back to one the more accurately represented the history.
Now, what about the hauntings? Well, first you need to know that there is a cemetery on the island and it was relocated. The funny thing is, once it was all moved they had 3 or 4 more headstones than relocated graves. It was too late to find the missing bodies as structures were already being built in the former location of the graves. While this is not the exact area The Mission Point Resort is at, it still lends to the idea that disgruntled spirits could be on the island. Then their is the story of Harvey. Harvey supposedly killed himself after being rejected by his then girlfriend and reports of him being seen on the island have followed. Plus there is several more stories and more somewhat dark history to the island.
The popular TV show "Ghost Hunters" also did a show on The Mission Point Resort. The original air date was 3/30/11, season 7 and carried the title "Frozen in Fear". I have embedded the show for your viewing pleasure and it was one of the better shows from the ghost hunting gang. Check it out.
I enjoyed my trip to Mackinac Island and find the "interesting" history intriguing. I hope to share more about the island, it's dark history and my brief time there in some upcoming posts.
Thanks

Ghost hands (Re-creation) |

After posting the ghost dragging a man article, we received a report about ghost type hands touching a woman while she slept.
Here is what Khristey told us.
"Ok, so I had been seeing weird stuff in my apartment. I lived in an old school building in Sciotoville, OH called Linsey, I think that was the name of it. I was in a basement apartment and I wasn't the only one who seen stuff weird stuff happen there. Some of the strange stuff was like things moving, things going missing and we seen what seemed like kids playing at night beside the building.
Well my sister-in-law tried to expel what we thought might have been a bad spirit, the lights were off and she had a candle lit in front of her. Then, I seen the strangest thing ever, it looked evil but also looked like a part of her, kinda looked like a mirror effect like a demon leaning out of her. It was kinda a reddish color and she stepped out side and came back in and poured salt everywhere, while mumbling. The reason she did this was because I had been feeling like I was being violated. It felt like someone rubbing my whole body and I was not being able to move. I would wake up in the middle of the night with this going on and sometimes it would happen when I had just laid down. I guess that could be called an attack in a way. I kept ending up with scratches and red marks on my body."
Rubbing and leaving red marks and scratches on your body, I would say that is considered an attack.
Thanks goes to Khristey for sharing her experience with everyone. I know there are others out there that have had similar things happen, please feel free to share your story with us. You can use THIS LINK to submit it.
Thanks
~Tom~

Message from the grave |

Have you ever had strange experiences after someone close to you died?
"Jay" is someone who prefers to remain anonymous, but swears he had communications with a friend via text message who had previously been killed in an auto accident.
"It was the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to me," he said with a pang of sadness that was still obvious. "Carl had been my best friend for years. We grew up together, took vacations together, and met our wives almost at the same time. And when the accident happened, it was like I’d lost a brother. I was beside myself."
But on the day following his friend’s funeral, Jay, in his grief, couldn’t get his head together. He had promised the family that he would pick up some pictures and personal items from the funeral home after the funeral service was over and deliver them back to Carl’s wife.
The family had created a type of shrine to Carl for the funeral that consisted of old and new pictures, his favorite sports memorabilia, items from his children, and other favorite personal items for people to look at and remember him.
"It was my only job that day. I promised I’d do that one little thing. But I was tired and I got to talking to people and it just slipped my mind," Jay recalled.
And he didn’t remember it until he was some seven miles away from the funeral home. He stopped in a parking lot of an old rural church and pulled his phone out of his jacket pocket.
"I was getting ready to call Carl’s wife and let her know what happened and that I’d be late."
But to his surprise, Jay glanced at the screen on his IPhone only to see a message already opened and scrawled across the screen, "You really are stupid, you know that. Haha!"
"I checked for a number of the caller but there was none, which was really weird, and I was curious. So I asked, ‘Who is this?’ And within seconds the answer came back, ‘Who do you think this is, Chief?’"
"And then I felt like I’d swallowed a big rock. Carl always called me Chief. It actually dated back to our days as kids when we played cowboys and Indians. The name Chief just kind of stuck."
"I just buried you today. You’re dead. I don’t know who this is but, what kind of a sick bastard are you? I punched in the message, feeling pretty mad and not knowing what to say or what to think. Only that someone was playing a really sick joke."
But then there was no response for quite some time and Jay began to think he may have just dreamt the whole thing even though he could see it on the screen.
"I was surely tired enough," he said.
But he kept staring at the screen, feeling confused and somewhat mesmerized in his fatigue, and he stared off across the highway for a moment only to hear his phone chime another text message.
The text appeared on the screen. "Lucky for you, dumba**, they boxed all my stuff up and left it in the coatroom for you to pick up. ‘Good thing somebody’s on the ball today, ‘cause you sure ain’t. Hahaha!"
"I swear my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest," Jay recalled. Carl had also called me that name fairly often… when we weren’t with our families, of course. But now I had to know if it was who I thought it was. So I typed."
"Carl?"
"But no answer. So I sat there for a minute, thinking I’d surely gone crazy. And it seemed like a really long time when I suddenly looked down at my phone again."
"You really are stupid,’ the text said again."
But Jay just stared at the screen, only to see another message appear.
"You’ve been stupid since we were kids and you rode your bike off the dock at Spring Lake. Hahaha!"
"So now, I was stunned. Nobody talked to me like that…except Carl. And nobody knew about that except Carl. I nearly drowned that day because my foot got stuck in the bike when I went in the water. Carl’s the one that jumped in and got me. He helped me get the bike out of the lake and he swore he’d never tell anyone. I would have been in big trouble if he had."
"So I texted back."
"How did you know about that?" I typed.
But then there was no answer again. So Jay waited again. He glanced away from the screen again and then glanced back to find another message.
"I gotta go, Chief."
"Wait," I texted back."
"Take care of things for me," a text returned.
"And that was all," Jay told me. "I asked him once more to wait, but there weren’t any more messages. I stared at the screen for a while until I pulled myself together and the screen went off. I sat there for a minute wondering if this had really happened to me. And I tried to pull up the last message again only to find that it wasn’t there. All the messages were just gone."
Disappointed and a little bewildered, Jay drove all the way back to the funeral home that was in the neighboring town hoping to get the items quickly and be on his way. But when he arrived, he found they had been removed from the entryway.
"I yelled out to see if anyone was around to help, but there was no answer, though I suspected everyone was in the office upstairs. I was so tired, and I didn’t quite know what to do for a minute until I realized that the text message had said the stuff was in a box in the coatroom. I felt a little weird about it but nevertheless I went into the coatroom. And sure enough there was a box sitting just inside the doorway. It was half open and had the family name printed on the outside in black marker. I flipped the lid open and saw that all the items were there…ready for me to take home….just like the text had said."
"It’s strange what goes through your mind," he said. "I never told Carl’s wife because I didn’t want her to know he’d contacted me instead of her. Though maybe he contacted her too and she never said anything to me about it. Why would she? Who would believe it anyway?
So, did Jay receive a text message from beyond?
"Sometimes I’m not sure I believe it either," he said. "But when he told the story about the day at the lake, I really wanted to believe it. We were good friends. He talked to me just like that all the time. And we never went back on our promises. I really don’t think anyone knew about it except him and me. I guess I want to believe it was him saying goodbye in his own way, but I know I’ll never know for sure." *******DF

The Beautiful Cumberland Falls!
Cumberland Falls has been featured in 3 movies: The Kentuckian with Burt Lancaster, Raintree County with Elizabeth Taylor and Fire Down Below with Steven Seagal.
Cumberland Falls is located within the Daniel Boone National Forest in Southeast Kentucky.
The water fall itself is about 125 foot wide and has about a 65 foot drop. Sometimes Cumberland Falls is called "Little Niagara" but this Falls has something Niagara Falls does not have and that is a Moon Bow. A moon bow or lunar rainbow is a rare thing and can only be found in a few places in the whole world and can only be seen with the right conditions.
Moonbow Dates:
May - 22,23,24,25,26,27 June - 20,21,22,23,24,25
For more Dates Click Here!
This place of beauty is also home to some paranormal activity and stories. One being "The Bride of Cumberland Falls" and/or the haunted Dupont Lodge.
There are slightly varying stories about the Bride of Cumberland falls but here is the basics of the tale.
Dupont Lodge
The story dates back into the 1950's, The story is of a Bride and Groom that came to Cumberland Falls State Park for their Honeymoon.
The couple was staying at Dupont lodge. Before leaving the falls they wanted to have their photos taken with the falls in the background. The couple found an overlook just a few hundred feet from the falls that would work great for the photo. As the Bride stood on the Pillars at the edge of the 75 to 80 foot cliff, the Bride lost her balance and fell to her death.
-----------
Cumberland Falls has been listed as one of the top haunted places in Kentucky.
I have read several reports from visitors and people who worked at the Park, including some of the park rangers who worked around the Falls and many report seeing the ghost bride and other weird things. Some the other reports told of the ghost bride tripping people or messing up rooms that were just cleaned up. There are even some report of seeing old civil war type soldiers.
Here is a possible photo of the Ghost Bride
While there is many ghost tales from the Falls, I personally have not seen anything there and I have been to the Falls on a few trips as it's close to me. I do remember some other strange tales from Cumberland Falls. Many of you may have heard this before or remember hearing your family and friends talk about it.
Well as I remember, when I was a kid, around 10-12 years old, there was some stories about a person or people falling off the falls. This resulted in a massive search to recover the bodies and at one point a team of divers was used to swim under the falls and look for the bodies. The story that was told was that the divers came out of the water pretty quickly and were really shaken up and telling people that if anyone fell over the Falls that they are gone because there were catfish down there that were as big as a Volkswagen. They went on to say that these giant catfish were easily big enough to swallow a man whole. The divers also refused to go back in the water and look for the missing people.
Cumberland Falls State Park is a great place to visit, it has plenty of forest to explore and look for bigfoot, it has the Ghost Bride to investigate, it has monster sized catfish to catch but if none of that is your thing, then the Cumberland Falls is still a beautiful place to spend a weekend hiking, boating, fishing or just to enjoy the out doors and relax.
Click Cumberland Falls!! to find out more!
There are many more tales of strange sightings and odd happenings in and around this area, I have only scratched the surface.
If anyone has a tale to share or some photos, feel free to send them to me at thecryptocrew@kih.net
Thanks

Actual Court House Building |

This is a guest post by Tim Cornett. Tim is a amateur Kentucky historian and author.
Tim has worked as a reporter, publisher, editor and photographer.

Over the years I have actually been involved in some ghost "sightings." Here I'd like to tell you about one of the earliest ones.
Back in the 1980s I was Supervisor of Bell County Dispatch which handled telephone and radio calls for the Bell County Sheriff's Department, the Pineville Police Department and the Bell County Volunteer Fire Department. At that time Dispatch was located in the basement of the Bell County Court House.
The person who worked the midnight shift, from 12:00 midnight to 8:00 a.m., was a lady named Pat Whitt. Pat had told me that two or three times during the last month or so she had heard someone on the upper floors opening and closing doors. There wasn't supposed to be anyone else in the building during those hours except for the state police troopers who had an office next door to dispatch who would come into the building occasionally to do paper work.
I discussed this with Bell County Volunteer Fire Department Chief Earl BeBusk, who also had office space close to dispatch. We decided to have a group of volunteers on stand-by and the next time Pat heard the doors opening and closing she was to call me and we would search the building from top to bottom.
