Bigfoot Area & History Destroyed
On 9/3/21 I went to an area I had not been in this year. I knew there was some logging taking place in this area but I didn't realize just how bad it was. This is an area where I had found a lot bigfoot related evidence over the years, and a place where I like to hunt ginseng. I particularly liked this side of the mountain as it has fewer venomous snakes than the other side.
I tell a lot more about the area and my many years of exploring it, during the video. This is also the area where several episodes of Almost Live seasons 1 & 2 were filmed. I don't think it will ever be the same ..well at least not in my lifetime. For me, this was a very historic area that is part of my family history and it saddens me to see it totally annihilated in this manner.
Here is a rather long video from the area.
I know I'm just probably being a sad sack about it but I hate to see our beautiful mountains butchered. And yes, the wildlife will return and yes Bigfoot will probably even return but I will never live long enough to see the forest the way it was before it was cut. I'm not totally against logging or mining but this was just a special area for me, with special meaning. But what can ya do? Really nothing, as money rules the world and big companies have to make that money. The machine has to be fed.
I honestly debated over even posting this video as I know the subject is controversial. I don't want to be labeled a person who is against work or workers. But I also don't want to be seen as a person who thinks we should tear down every tree and mountaintop in the name of progress. I would love to see a happy medium in the world. Surely we can do better. I personally think hemp is the way to go.
Hemp not only holds nails better, but particleboards made of hemp can also be twice as strong as wood. And just 1 acre of hemp produces cellulose fiber pulp equal to 4 acres of trees, so hemp could easily and efficiently replace most items made of wood. Thus saving numerous trees and forests. Plus hemp is fast growing and ready to use at around 100 days. It takes just 100 days to grow to a stage where hemp fibers can be used..that in itself is pretty amazing. Plus hemp can be used in many different ways and products.
I go back to a thought I often have...about having enough money to buy up land and mountains with the idea of preserving them. Making them a place where you can walk up a trail and enjoy the beauties of nature. A place where you can bring your family and teach your children about wildlife. But alas I opine on things I can't change.
At least nature has a build function that lets it bounce back and as you can see in the video, many small trees and bushes have already started coming back.
I hope no one finds the video or this post offensive. I do understand our need, especially in this area, for jobs and work in general. I also understand we do need wood products for our lives and advancements. I just wish we would use other methods other than clear-cutting.
I know the area will bounce back over time and I will always have fond memories from my 40+ years of exploring, hunting, and bigfooting in Blacksnake Holler.
Thanks
~Thomas~
