The majority of hunters will tell you they have NEVER seen a Bigfoot while out hunting. They will tell you things like they have never even seen any signs of Bigfoot. That they have never heard anything that was out of the ordinary. I've had several hunters tell me "I've been hunting all my life and I ain't never seen a bigfoot, there is no such thing." That one always gets under my skin a little.

But on the other side of the coin are numerous accounts of hunters encountering a Bigfoot or at the very least finding footprints.

This next report is one of two hunters encountering a bright red colored Bigfoot. The events that unfold turn out not to be so good....for the hunters.

Here is the report.
The two hunters where from Bennington County, Vermont and lived in or near the town of Pownal. Pownal is located in the southwestern part of Vermont. It is a small town with a total area of only 46.7 square miles. It only has roughly 1500 houses and a total population of around 3500 people.

According to the report, the two men were hunting in the mountains south of Williamstown, Vermont when the encounter took place. It is my understanding that the area was near or in a place called Green Mountains. From what I gather, the area did have reports of  a "Wild man" that lived in the mountains.

As the two men are hunting, walking along, the creature jumped out from behind a rocky cliff and started heading toward the deep forest. At first the men thought it is a bear or another animal. One of the hunters raises his firearm and sends a bullet hurling towards the creature.

Evidently the bullet hit the creature because it let out fierce cries of pain and what was described as rage. I take it the creature was very angry at being shot. The creature quickly stops and turns towards the two hunters.

The creature runs head long, full of rage towards the two men. The hunters become very frightened as the creature is approaching. They are so frightened that they turn and run, dropping their firearms and ammunition. They manage to escape the wrath of the wounded creature but they had no interest in returning to get their firearms and ammo.

The men described the creature in very good detail. They stated the creature was only around 5 foot tall and resembled and moved like a man. That it was completely covered in bright red hair and had a long type beard. They also said it had a "wild" look in it's eyes. My guess is that it was mad as all get out at being plugged in the back, or where ever, with a bullet.

This story was originally published, from what I have read, in the New York Times on October 18, 1879. There was also some other information that talked about hunting parties getting together, from time to time, and going to look for the creature. The hunting parties were never successful at finding or seeing the creature.
