Oh boy, in a way it really funny and sad at all the same time. This short video clip of what was, at the time, supposed to be a bigfoot came out in late 2005. It was supposedly filmed by a guy name Mark Nelson. The story he told was that he was hiking with his girlfriend and filmed this "thing" after hearing some movement in the brush. It was film in Sonoma, California.
Even thought this is an old and thoroughly debunked clip, some people, even some "researchers", are fooled by this clip. Theses folks getting fooled just don't know much about the subject and are just not doing their homework on the clip.
Here is the clip followed by some useful information that may be helpful and explain why these hoaxes keep happening.
When this clip first came out it fooled several of the big name "experts" that I will not name in this post. If you do just a little research you will find out who it was and the others that followed. There was promises of making some pretty good money for Mr. Nelson. There were offers of buying his clip, and paying him for interviews. There is only one problem. That problem is that there is no Mark Nelson, it was a made up name, as far as I can tell.
So, you are probably wondering how was this debunked. Well, first there were several legitimate researchers who raised many questions about the authenticity of the clip. And again I will not name them in the post, you can look them up fairly easily.
You can actually find some of the names and more recent "researchers" fooled, just by reading the comments section of the youtube video.
But the ultimate debunking would not come until 2006 by the creators of the hoax. This event was perpetrated by the Showtime series "Penn & Teller: Bullsh*t!". This happened on season 4, episode 4 of the show. The episode is still available to watch, and is available to Amazon Prime members at no charge, on Amazon. Here is the link for those who are interested - Just Click Here! (beware lots of cussing during the program and full frontal naked men and topless women at the end of the show.)
I never really cared for anything that Penn & Teller has ever done. I don't like that style or delivery of such programs. This episode only strengthens my feelings about their material. If you can stomach watching the episode mentioned above, be prepared for them to totally make fun of the subject and most of the guest. They belittle all witnesses, and researchers with a very broad sword and leave no room for anyone to have a sherd of legitimacy anywhere.
But in some ways the hoaxed video they created is somewhat useful in the way it was and is fooling some of these "experts". It may give us a better idea of who knows what they are talking about and who don't.
Thanks
Tom
