Still frame from the original video |
This reportedly was shot in Provo, Utah, which has been home to several possible bigfoot videos over the years, is it a hot spot or is it a hoax spot? This video is interesting but sadly the video is not good enough to make a clear judgement based on the visual content of the moving picture. So, we have to take aspects of the video and attempt to gain more knowledge about the figure.
First, lets zoom in on the figure and see if we can spot any thing of interest. When we do this we are looking for clues that might either confirm or create doubt that this could be a bigfoot.
On the zoom in, we really can't see a whole lot, just a dark, slender looking figure. It kind of looks like a person in a hoodie, but that could be just the shape and is due to the angle or lighting. So inconclusive on that part. One thing that stands out is the neck, according to reports and witness accounts, bigfoot really don't have much of a neck. Most describe the head as sitting down into the shoulders. So, maybe that is a clue for us. But still inconclusive.
So my next idea is to see if I can figure out the approximate height of the figure. To do this I thought about the height of the growing corn. If we can get the height of the corn we can make a guess at the height of the figure. So, I went on a search to find average height of corn. According to home guides website the average height of corn is 8 foot tall but wait, some corn, depending on what kind it is, can grow up to 16 foot tall. The largest on record was an amazing 30 foot tall. I can safely say the corn in the video is not 30 foot tall, I don't even think the corn in the video is 16 foot tall. But I need to find out what kind of corn is normally grown in Utah.
So, after some searching, it appears that Sweet corn is the most commonly grown corn in the state of Utah. Now, depending on what type of sweet corn it is will determine the height. Certain types of sweet corn only grow to be 4-5 foot tall, while the larger variety, normally called "jubilee", typically grows larger. The larger variety normally grows to 7 foot or a little higher. So, IF this is the jubilee version of sweet corn, and IF it is around 7 foot tall, that would mean the figure is probably under 7 foot tall. But the angle in our still shot is not very good for getting the height of the corn or figure. So, let take another still frame from the video.
Here it is, I think this more accurately shows the height of the corn and the figure.
Now normally corn on the out crop of a field grows to a smaller height than corn in the middle of the field. I know you have seen or driven by corn fields and seen the ones on the outer edges are smaller.
If the corn in the back ground is say 7-8 foot tall and the corn in the foreground is around 6 foot tall, that would mean the figure is around 6 foot tall. But we know that bigfoot grows to different heights depending on age, so while we can conclude that the figure falls within human range for height, we still can not rule out it being a bigfoot.
Next, I want to present the original video for you to watch and then I will finish up the post.
While I can't for 100 percent rule this video out as NOT being a bigfoot, even though I think I presented some decent height theories, I have a gut feeling it is a hoax. The video feels staged to me and the general randomness of the little girl filming and capturing a figure, just don't feel right.
Of course, I know my opinion will not sway anyone either way, I still thought it would be a good inside type of look at how we review these types of videos. I have seen other videos that are similar to this one and when people are convinced it is of a real bigfoot, you just can't show anything to change their minds. It is the same for those who doubt every picture or video, you can't change their minds.
There was one other aspect to this video that I briefly read about but did not research. It was that it was done for a contest for some kind of college money or something. I did not research that aspect of the story and that could be possible motivation for someone creating the video. I just wanted to take a look at the video.
So, my final opinion is that this video was staged and the figure is not of a real bigfoot.
Thanks
