Describe sighting in detail:
I was on my way home from meeting up with a few friends at the local gas station. I was going by where the power line trails are and I always keep an eye out for deer at night seeing as my father hit one last year and I don't want the same damage to my truck.
I saw what I thought was a black bear which is becoming more common in our area but its winter. I'm not sure if they do hibernate but I guessed they do and thought it was odd, so I pulled over and shut the truck off. (I was thinking it was a bear because the local temps went from negatives to 50 degrees it was about 35 at the time of the sighting, I wasn't sure if maybe the bears get confused when there's warmer weather and come out).
However I realized it was more brown in color and was hunched over like a person would be if they were tying their shoe. As I studied the thing further I realized it was doing something and I wanted to get closer so I started the truck and that's when it stood up and looked over at me and then took a few steps, went back to all fours like an ape would do and scurried off.
At this point my heart was racing like the time I was chased by a fisher cat, yet I was still in the safety of my truck. Today (the next day 1/11/14). I went to go find out what the heck it was doing on the ground and I found a garbage bag with some left over food and other items, also around it were some raccoon prints and maybe a few other small animals prints.
To my knowledge there hasn't been any other sightings around here. But I have heard a story about it back in the 70s (same area) that a few locals were fishing at night on the local pond and heard what they thought was a deep voiced man yelling for help and sounded in pain. So they got a few neighbors together and went to search for what they thought was a mans cries for help but didn't find anything and no one was reported missing and nothing had happened to anyone. (they'd know because the town was even smaller back then)
Other people over the years have told me stories of strange yelling both high and low pitch but who knows what it was seeing that there are a lot of new homes in the area and the town isn't a know everyone kinda town anymore. Could just be some crazy neighbors or even as simple as a fisher cat.

Thanks goes to Nick for sending in the report. If there are any updates I will post them.
Thanks

My brother encountered one in a forest in Southbridge. He told me the story many years ago. He and his friend both experienced it. We still talk about it today. He plays it down now but I remember how terrified he was then when he told the story.
