The Oldest Bigfoot Reports Go WAY Back
Most people think Bigfoot sightings started in the 1950s… but the truth goes much deeper.
Long before the Patterson–Gimlin film, long before the word “Bigfoot” existed, Native American tribes across North America were describing large, hair‑covered beings living in the deep forests and mountains.
Different tribes had different names:
• Sasq’ets (Coast Salish)
• Ts’emekwes (Lummi)
• Choanito (Yakima)
• Stone Giants (Iroquois)
• Skookum (Chinook)
These weren’t campfire stories; they were treated as real animals, real beings, and sometimes even real neighbors.
Some tribes described them as:
• shy forest guardians
• dangerous giants
• watchers of the mountains
• or simply another creature sharing the land
The deeper you go into the old stories, the more you realize something important:
People have been seeing “Bigfoot” long before the modern world gave it a name.
