One of my favorite stories.

A man reported that back in 1947, he and his wife were driving down Highway 99, south of Shasta, California, coming from San Francisco. It was spring and in the afternoon. Back in 1947, this road was not a super highway.

As his car rounded a curve in the road, he saw a tall object beside the blacktop. Thinking this may be a post announcing part of the road being washed out, he slowed to a stop to look things over. Neither he nor his wife could see anything wrong with the road. Just as he was ready to continue down the road, the "post" stepped out into the middle of the blacktop. It started to cross but then angled its path to approach the car.

As he and his wife stared in bewilderment, they also noticed that there was still another object of around the same shape and size standing by the road where the first creature had been standing.

The man estimated the first creature had been around 8 or 9 ft tall. He said that he himself was 6 ft tall and that he could easily have walked underneath its outstretched arm. This creature came right up to their car and looked in at them. Then it went to the opposite bank and looked it over. Returning to the second creature, still standing in the original spot, the first creature took it by the arm. They then crossed the road over to the bank the first creature had looked over. He then helped the second creature up onto the bank.

This was when the man and his wife realized that this second creature was a female. She stood waiting until the male creature also stepped onto the bank. The two witnesses were awed when the two creatures each put an arm around the other and walked approximately 100 yards to the trees and disappeared.

The man said that both creatures were covered with long hair. It was reddish-brown at the ends and lighter nearer the body. They stood upright. The eyes of the male were black with no whites showing. The female never turned her head toward the car.

There is some speculation that the female creature was either ill or perhaps blind, which is why the male appeared to be assisting her. In any case, this is a unique and special encounter.
