Daylight Sighting In NE Ohio
A regular drive through Geneva-on-the-Lake State Park turned unusual for a couple and their children February 15, 2014.
At around 4 pm a husband and wife and their two children, ages 9 and 7, drove into the State Park just to check how far the ice had formed over the lake and marina. As they approached the corner of Padinanum and Lake Roads, they noticed a bad smell. They drove slowly through the marina parking lot and then stopped for a few moments. The noticed a truck parked and two cars which appeared to belong to the snow removal service.
After about ten minutes, they pulled out to continue on their way. As they approached the first curve just outside the parking lot, the husband noticed a figure walking about 50 to 60 yards from the road. It was moving in an easterly direction. Thinking it was probably a person, he asked his wife to stop the car so he could look closer. She also saw the figure. And then it was gone, into the woods.
The husband got out of the car and walked about 40 yards towards where the figure had been. He was unable to see any sign that showed other than perhaps a person had passed through. He returned to the vehicle and they drove a short distance down to the Crabapple Picnic area parking lot. His wife pulled all the way around the large lot and then stopped about 20 yards from the exit. After shutting the van off, the wife asked the husband to give a whoop or mimic a bigfoot yell. After cautioning the children to keep quiet, the husband gave one whoop. They listened for a minute; there was no response. He then gave three large whoops. And something or someone whooped back. In a five minute span they heard two distinct whoops, one scream, a growl, and two wood knocks.
The wife described the figure they saw as "furry". It was very large and black in color. She added that she saw a leg, an arm, the back and the back of the head. The arms were swinging as it walked and she did not notice a neck. She saw it take two steps during the 10 seconds she watched it.
The husband stated the figure was bipedal and uniformly dark except for the head area which appeared lighter. He could make out "a very dark figure that seemed tall and was definitely walking on two legs".
The ground was snow covered at a depth of 18 to 24 inches. The temperature was around 15 degrees F, with the feel of low single digit temperature. The terrain is swamp and hardwood forest. The woods are open, not dense.
The husband and wife returned the next day with a friend. While the wife remained in the vehicle, the husband and friend ventured further into the woods, being better dressed to tackle the terrain. The snow made it somewhat difficult. The two found snowmobile tracks, a few human and other animal tracks. The husband was beginning to doubt the things that had happened the day before, when his friend told him he had found other prints. These prints were in single file, 22 inches in length. They took a photograph of one of the prints. They were located about 30 yards from Cowles Creek.
When interviewed the friend said he had never seen tracks like that before. He did know that they were not snow shoes. The prints were not double prints and had toe marks. He found some prints coming from the creek but lost the trail about 10 yards before the bridge in the area.
The friend estimated the width of the track at the heel at about 5 inches. They did some size comparison with a person 6'3" tall and weighing about 380 pounds. The figure the husband and wife saw was much taller and broader than the "sample human".
