Movie Review: The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot

The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot, starring Sam Elliott and Aidan Turner is not what you’d expect. This is a really cheesy title for a film attempting to be as serious as it can. And I think it succeeds...for the most part.
As Sam Elliott arguably delivers some of the best acting of his career, I would venture to guess that many bigfoot believers, as unconventional as they are, would be able to get past the strangeness of the premise of this film and really enjoy it. Though many bigfoot researchers could be left completely cold by the Hollywood-style portrayal of the bigfoot... or completely delighted. The jury’s still out.
But if you’re looking for the high-level action of Sam Elliott movies of old, you won’t quite find it here. Elliott plays an aging war hero, Calvin Barr, looking back on his war career and some of the horrible things he’s done, only to find himself, in his old age, thrust into another battle. This time with Bigfoot. But, in the true spirit of Sam Elliott tradition that we all know and love, it does have it’s action moments to help you remember what Sam is always all about.
Aidan Turner’s performance as the young Calvin Barr was stellar and deserves credit, but I kept thinking to myself that there is no actor out there that could successfully live up to our lofty recollections of a young Sam Elliott in any of his roles as a young man.
Nevertheless, I give this film 4 stars, mostly due to the quality performance by Elliott that lent class to a film that might otherwise not be taken too seriously. But I thought it lacked the concrete of a really solid and satisfying storyline. And yet, I would say it was still entertaining on its own personal level. All in all, I recommend you watch it and see what you think.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars
