The Negative Stigma of Believing in Bigfoot
Believing in such things as Bigfoot and UFOs carries a heavy price sometimes. There is a stigma that we believers have to endure on an ongoing basis. We are called crazy, nuts, and are often asked if we are on drugs. It's not very pleasant to hear these things, but it happens very often.
Recently, I had made a comment on a totally different subject, and of course, the first reply back was a degrading comment about me believing in Bigfoot and UFOs. It's like if you believe in those types of things, you can't have any opinion or knowledge about anything else. If you believe in that, then you are just a dumb, uneducated person, or you have some serious mental issues.
While I will admit the Bigfoot field has some people who are on the fringe and they make some wild claims, but doesn't every field? Have we not had people in every field cross over the line of what is acceptable and what is not? Have not numerous unethical psychological boundaries been crossed over the years, ones that included unethical tests on everything from animals to children?
In any group of study, you will have some who are just on the fringe. It is the fringe that seems to get the most attention. But if you actually look into the subject of any field, you will find people who are dedicated, honest, and just looking to advance knowledge. This is the same with Bigfoot, UFOs, and other mysterious topics.
The negativity of Bigfoot and, more so, with UFOs, is a byproduct of years of denial by the governments, in my opinion. It created a "if you've seen a UFO, you are nuts" mentality that many still cling to today. Of course, there are other factors involved, but the media is a powerful tool that affects everyone to some degree.
Just think for a moment, if our fellow man will degrade our opinions based on our belief in Bigfoot, then what would they do to someone who was in leadership or in the educational field? In many instances, they would be asked to step down or to stop talking about the subject. If my memory is correct, I think it was Dr. John Bindernagel who stated that he believed his belief and pursuit of Bigfoot kept him from getting promotions. Bindernagel was a wildlife biologist who researched Bigfoot for many years. He passed away in January of 2018.
This negativity is why we don't see very many professors or leaders step up and say they have an interest in such topics. But there have been several prominent figures who have made their interest in the subject of Bigfoot public. For that, we must applaud them, as many of us know the ridicule that comes with it can, at times, be hard to bear.
And in some ways, it is a little funny how others want to discredit a person based on what they say they saw. I know in my case, I know what I have seen, found, and heard over the years.
I'll admit I'm not the shiniest marble in the pile, but I have been around a long time and have seen many wonderful and wondrous things. So, I try not to let those who ridicule me over my thoughts on unrelated topics bother me. After all, the person who is trying to discredit any of us was not there when we had our sightings or experiences. And more often than not, the person has not even researched the subject at all. They have an opinion about Bigfoot, UFOs, and ghosts, but it is based on ZERO research of the subject. So, where and how did they form their opinion that there is nothing to it?
If people would actually dig into the subjects, they would see there is a mountain of evidence of unexplained events. And that many of these sightings are from very credible people from all walks of life. The ridicule from these people goes far beyond being a skeptic. Being skeptical is something normal, but you search for facts about the matter and make a general conclusion. These folks don't do that at all. I normally don't even reply to these folks, as I just don't have time to spend on people so closed-minded.
In the end, everyone must understand that just because a sighting is unproven, that does not mean the subject itself is disproven or disproved, if you prefer.
So, let's keep working and searching for answers. Let's keep documenting reports. Let's keep on moving forward.
Have a great day!
Thanks
~Tom~
