If the first half of the Weird Bigfoot Series deals with internal experiences, missing time, mindspeak, and the feeling of being watched, the second half focuses on the external signs. The sounds. The structures. The lights. The things people can point to and say, “I saw this. I heard this. This happened.”

These six phenomena appear again and again in witness reports, often in the same areas and sometimes on the same nights.

Most people think Bigfoot encounters follow a predictable pattern: a glimpse of a large figure, a set of tracks, a strange sound in the distance. But the deeper you go into witness reports, especially from the Appalachian region, the stranger the patterns become. These aren’t the loud, dramatic stories. These are the quiet ones. The unsettling ones. The ones people hesitate to talk about because they don’t fit the “normal” script.

People who’ve had strange encounters in the woods, Bigfoot, lights, shadows, whatever, always mention the same moment:

“Everything went quiet.”

The Pacific Northwest isn’t just the cultural home of Bigfoot; it’s the region that consistently produces the clearest, deepest, and most scientifically compelling track evidence in North America. There’s a reason so many of the classic casts, long trackways, and high‑credibility impressions come from Washington, Oregon, and northern California. The land itself preserves the story.

The Historians Who Preserved America’s Earliest Bigfoot

Local sightings are the backbone of Bigfoot research because they create the one thing investigators can’t manufacture: fresh activity. When someone reports a howl, a track, a shadow figure, or a roadside encounter, it reignites interest in the entire region. 

In the world of cryptid research, Bigfoot and Dogman often get lumped together, but when you look at the actual witness descriptions, the patterns are surprisingly distinct. Whether you believe these creatures are physical animals, misidentifications, or something stranger, the reports themselves show clear differences.

This breakdown sticks to consistent, repeated witness testimony gathered over decades.

On June 18, an anonymous report was made to Bigfoot Case Files. It was also picked up by Bigfoot Evidence and Sasquatch Central.

A man (we'll call Tom*) has reported two different encounters. The first occurred around 30-some years ago when he was 19 or 20  years old. It was late in June when he and a buddy (let's call him Rory*) decided to go fishing at a pond that was partway up a mountain in northern Pennsylvania. They arrived at the pond at around 7 pm and set up a quick camp. The two young men heated some stew for supper and then sat around the camp lantern talking about the big bass they were going to catch.

Law enforcement officers see many strange things throughout their careers. One thing many hesitate to report to their superiors is anything paranormal, including seeing a sasquatch. So when these two deputy sheriffs stepped forward and told their stories to John Green, he paid attention.

Although this sighting happened as a teenager, this deputy sheriff never changed his story even years later when Green interviewed him.

Some sasquatch seem very savvy where roadways and cars are concerned. And then there are others who either don't care or are unaware.

It was mid-January 1973 when a truck driver hauling a load of logs took a curve on the road to Eureka and hit something big. He was traveling about 40-45 mph, around 7:30 pm when a creature with reddish, brown hair stepped out into the road. It was standing on the side and seemed to be unaware of the oncoming truck when it started walking. The truck hit the 6 1/2 to 7 ft tall creature and swerved off to the left shoulder of the road. The driver could hear nothing over the noise of the engine. He was sure he had not hit a bear.

On March 18, 1987, there was a seven-man crew working outdoors in the cold and frozen wilderness near Fellers Heights, British Columbia. Four of the men called attention to something they saw on the outskirts of their worksite. They described a creature that was 7 ft tall, maybe 400 lbs. A monster.

Myles Jack, one of the workers, said: "But it was a real mover. It was really fluid in the way it moved." The creature was crouched down for part of the time, seeming to watch the men as they worked. When it circled the work site, it would peer at them through the trees, still watching them work. "It was like we were on his territory and he was checking us out."

While it was not research, the Russian army and this officer had an extraordinary encounter with a creature called Almasty. There seem to be several versions of what happened in 1925 and I will tell them all.

Major General Mikhail Stephanovitch Topilski was the commander of a cavalry regiment in the Red Army during the Civil War after the Communist Revolution of 1917. In 1925, he and his men were given the task of hunting down anti-Communist forces in the Pamir Mountains southwest of the Tien Shan. They encountered more than just fighting men.

Many independent researchers made their way into the remote areas of Russia; some with the intention of studying the strange man-like, hairy creatures, and others who ran across them while traveling or while conducting their other research.

K.A. Satunin was a leading student of vertebrates in the Caucasus. He had an accidental encounter in the Talyish Mountains. He discovered a female "Biaban-Guli", which was the name used by the southern Caucasus people. When he reached a nearby settlement, he tried to obtain more information on these hairy, man-like animals who appeared unable to speak.

In August 1972 bigfoot came to the home of Randy and Lou Rogers of Roachdale, Indiana.

They first became aware of something coming around their farmhouse early in the month. Whatever it was made its presence known by banging on the walls and windows of the farmhouse, gradually increasing each night. When Roger would run outside to try to catch who or what it was; he would catch only a glimpse of something heavily built, around 6 ft. tall disappearing through a cornfield. For two to three weeks this creature would arrive between 10 and 11:30 each night, bringing with it an odor like a dead animal or rotting garbage.

Wisconsin is not just pasture land and cows and Milwaukee. There are rivers and lakes and forested land. And there are sasquatch.

In 1964, a man driving down State Highway 89, reported seeing a sasquatch run across the highway in front of him. This happened shortly after midnight and was near the Illinois border. When the sasquatch crossed in front of him, it jumped the fences on either side of the highway.
