On Sunday after church, we made a trip up to our local Family Dollar store. While there I ran into a local person from our area, a person that I know, who had something they wanted to share with me.
What follows is the story he told me, along with some of my thoughts.
Pete said that late one night he and a friend went out to call in some coyotes. They traveled to the foot of a local large mountain. At the foot of the mountain was an old log landing site. They pulled in, parked, and sat there for a few minutes. Pete and Ron got out of the track and walked over toward the treeline. Pete blew the rabbit in distress call whistle. Right after the call, 3 very loud tree knocks came from up on the side of the mountain. The two men were puzzled and wondered what had made the knocks. They talked back and forth and reasoned that it was unlikely to be a person. That part of the mountain is extremely steep. They had not seen anyone else, there were no car sounds or lights. At one point Ron asks "What do you think that was?", Pete replies"I don't know."
The two men stood around for about 20 minutes and then decided to try the rabbit call again. I assume they figured whatever was there had probably moved on by now. So, Pete uses the rabbit call, and immediately after the call comes 3 more really loud wood knocks from the same spot.
This time both men are concerned with just what is going on. Ron looks at Pete and says "What are we going to do now?". Pete replies "We are going to get out of here."
After that, the two men loaded up in the truck and got out of there.
I didn't get to ask when this happened as Pete's wife called for him to come and help load up some stuff. I do know the area Pete and Ron were in very well. I remember the log landing site and have traveled that mountain a lot over the years. The nearest house is probably 2 miles away. Parts of the mountain are very steep and rugged. The chances of someone being out there on the side of the mountain late at night are slim and none. If I were to guess, I'd say it has been about 8-10 years since that log landing site was there, but again that is a guess.
While talking to Pete you could tell the event had really stuck with him and it was unsettling at the time.
I think it is a very fair assumption to think that it was a Bigfoot making the knocks. I have heard these types of knocks before and I know what was making them.
I thank Pete for sharing his story with me.
Thanks
