License To Bully

Dietrologia.

While reading a book the other day, I ran across this term that caught my attention. Actually it is an Italian word. A term used to cover a great multitude of meaning.

Dietro meaning "behind". Logia meaning "the study of".

In Italy, this means that the idea that is the obvious thing cannot be the truth. There has to be, there  always is, something hidden behind that truth.

It isn't the same as our US "Conspiracy theory". When we talk of conspiracy theories, we are talking of something that we think could be, but we're still uncertain; it's only a possibility.

A dietrologist deals only in the facts. Everything they know about it, and they KNOW everything that is going on, is a fact. They are an expert in it. Even if they know shit about it.

Why? You may ask. Why do people do this? Make themselves out to be The Expert in whatever thing they've chosen?

It's simple. Because it makes them feel important. It can be even just among their family, or their immediate group of friends.  It may be a group of silly friends, but by believing in that person, they become among the "ones in the know".

It's about power. The power of knowing something that others don't know. And if you  don't really know anything, you act as if you do. You know all about everything.

If you don't know anything, have no special knowledge, then you are not important. You will look at a fact and because you did not know it first, then it is not true. You will say the opposite and embrace it as truth.

To apply it to the bigfoot community: If someone shares a video of a bigfoot crossing the field behind their house, then it cannot be a bigfoot. You did not see one and get one filmed first. So therefore, they could not have filmed a bigfoot. You will find reasons to make it so. It is fake. It is a hoax. CGI. Man in a suit. Hiker with a backpack.

And this comes with a partner. Witchhunt. Witchhunting is very much alive in the bigfoot community. If someone has a good research area, then they are hoaxing us. If someone captures a good vocal recording, it's a coyote.  If someone gets a clear picture of a bigfoot, it's fake. And names will be named of those who have aided this hoax, this fake. Or if no actual names,  someone will claim to have made the suit, worn the suit, a friend of a friend of a cousin of an aunt ..................

And the saddest part of all this are those who have joined this witchhunt. They get great pleasure with spreading the names and the accusations across the internet. Blackening reputations, ruining researchers life work. Just to appear in the know and for power. But that power is just bullying.

I have read a lot of bullying on the internet and on facebook. Ridicule, the famous debunking of evidence, the replicating of something and then saying then it must be fake, a hoax.

I despair the glee and joy shown by some of these people. I am sad for them. That the only way they get satisfaction in life is by tearing others down.

And the Italians have a name for these people. It is "furbo". It has no english equivalent. It includes those who are wily and cunning, sneaky. They know which way to go, who to kiss up to and worm their way into the "big league". They know they can fool people but they don't think they will ever be fooled themselves. They believe the worst of everyone around them so they don't end up looking stupid themselves. They want to be known as "furbo".

IMO. In my opinion. My opinion and many of you will disagree. Some will ask for names. But I will not name people. I don't have to. At some point, in some way, at some time, people will know them for what they are. I won't play the name game.

My knowledge is my knowledge. My opinions are my opinions. My feelings, my feelings. Just that. Nothing more. A footstep , no, a tiptoe, on the internet , that may guide someone to look deeper into things and discover things for themselves. That's all.
