Witness Describes Seeing Black Panther
Many people in several different states have said they have saw a black panther, only to be told that their particular area, wherever it may be, does not have any large cats. We hear about locals being told the "we don't have large cats here" over and over, but if that is true what are people seeing?
I know here in my area of southeast Kentucky, we have these large cats as I have personally seen one that was standing, then bolting away, in the middle of the road as I rode my ATV. And yes it had the long tail and everything.
What follows is yet another witness who saw a possible black panther and is interested to see if anyone else in their area has seen it.
Here is his report
-Start Report-
I actually witnessed a black panther, probably late spring this year. I'm in a subdivision but my back yard is wooded some which is surrounded by back yards.
I'm in Boone County and I'm from Carroll Co. And I've been a hunter sportsman most my life it was pretty dark at the time and I have been hearing noises that I assumed was a deer because I see deer back here a lot. But after 20 minutes or so, I told my wife I don't think it's a deer because of its movement. It ran when I went down my hill to grab firewood and it continued to run back and forth, side to side like it didn't want to leave the woods.
It would run to a back yard and turn around and the deer around here don't care about yards being clear, they will even eat out of bird feeders. This went on for about 30 to 40 minutes until it started getting dark. I decided to go down there with my flashlight because I kept hearing it and then my little dog was running around our back yard, all roughed up with her nose in the air.
I walked to my back fence and started shining my light until I saw white glowing eyes, which at the time I didn't think of that, but I thought it was a black dog at first until it turned away from me and it scratched its right front paw, like a cat does in the litter box. And then I saw the tail which was rounded at the end and very thick.
I instantly grabbed my 3 year old, who was about 10 feet behind me, and brought him inside and in my mind I kept trying to debunk myself. But then I remembered it's eyes being white and I have never in my life seen white eyes before. I'm certain they glowed white from my flashlight. I've seen green, orange, yellowish, but that was the first time I have ever seen white eyes.
I don't tell many people this story but I came here to see if I'm not the only one who witnessed a black panther near me in Burlington. Well thanks for your time I hope this is helpful and I'm thankful for your website.

-End Report-
A big thanks to Willy for sharing this report with us. Now if anyone in Boone County or the Burlington Kentucky area has seen a possible black panther, then make sure to contact us.
Sometimes, officials will want to discount eye witness reports and tell the witness that they only saw a bobcat. But let me tell you, I have seen my fair share of bobcats and the creature I saw that day while riding my ATV, was 100 percent not a bobcat.
One thing we should keep in mind is that the term "Black panther" has become a kind of catch all term used to describe large black cats...be it a cougar or a panther. But there are other blanket terms often used when describing a large cat such as: mountain lion, puma, painter, jaguar, mountain cat, panther, and many others. Sometimes these broad terms depend on the area of the sighting as locals tend to have their own names for large cats. It should also be noted that a cougar and a black panther are different species.
Thanks
~Thomas~
