I hear a lot of talk about a Great Awakening. It’s plastered across the internet and social media; thousands upon thousands of references to a supposed time in history that we all think we understand. But if someone asked you to define it, could you give a clear definition?
Chances are, you’d give a definition that’s based on your own beliefs about it. We all think we know what it is. But the truth is, none of us has a clear grasp of it…yet. But we will.
Many people think it’s a socio-political or religious movement. Depending on what side of the social and political or religious fence you happen to be on, you’ll be convinced YOU’RE the one that’s awakened and the other side isn’t. I’ve seen countless arguments on social media about who’s awake and who’s not. But if you’re still arguing and you think it has to do with ONLY politics or only religion, you’re not awake yet.
We all think it has something to do with something that’s going on “out there” in the world around us. But what it really is is something that’s going on “in here” inside of all of us. It’s an inner transformation of the human race.
The Great Awakening that we put down in capital letters is a significant period in history, yes, but it’s more than that. It’s a shift in the consciousness of all humanity. It’s a healing transformation of each individual person on the planet. As we slip out of the old Age of Pisces and into the new Age of Aquarius, we also shift into a new dimension. Our location in the cosmos has changed significantly, and with it comes new energies. And our DNA is responding to those changes in energy in both negative and positive ways. But all the changes are positive in the long run. The Age of Pisces carried energies of deception and of things being hidden from us. But now, as we reach a new age, the energy is more open and things are being revealed. That is what we’re all experiencing right now. New energies in the cosmos are ushering in new insights within us.
But we won’t see any of this unless we’re awake. So we have to wake up.
As people become more conscious, they start to notice things around them and in the world at large. They’re starting to see things that have always been there, but that they haven’t noticed before. And they may realize they don’t like those things very much. And they may feel they need to do something about them. That’s because when awakening happens, once we see what’s wrong, we can’t UN-see it. And we’re forced to make a change. We can’t look something squarely in the eye that’s bad and allow it to continue. This is consciousness…or awakening. This is why it seems that the world is in chaos right now. We’re all seeing what’s wrong and we’re jostling to figure out how to fix things. And we all think we’re awake and have the right answers.
Most people believe this is all about politics because politics plays such a huge role in our lives. But politics is only a small part of the picture. I’ve watched people disagree, and one will tell the other that they need to wake up. But we all need to wake up. Because once you’re REALLY awakened, you start to see the absurdity of the argument and the absurdity within politics and how we’re all being played by one side or the other. None of us has been immune to corruption or deception. And as we awaken, that’ becomes crystal clear. Once we finally understand that we DON’T know anything we thought we knew and we start to accept that as fact, that’s when we begin to really awaken. Once we let go of our opinions and judgments, that’s when we can begin to say we’re awakening.
Most don’t want to admit that they don’t understand what’s going on. Because if they do, it may mean that they’ve been ignorant all along or that they are giving in to something that’s unwanted. But when you finally understand how little you know, and you can finally let go of your long-held opinions and ideas, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities. The most intelligent and enlightened people are the ones who know they know nothing. And that’s because at the end of the day, they know that politics has no real meaning. It only has power if we keep throwing energy into it. All those things we see going on in the world that we may constantly complain about are just distractions from all the inner work we all need to be doing on ourselves. We finally realize that complaining about what other people are doing is not helping anything. In fact, it just makes people buckle under and behave worse. Our constant complaining has an ironic way of creating more of what we need to complain about. Because what we focus our energy on, whether it be something negative or something positive, is what grows. What helps more is working on ourselves and inspiring others to do the same on themselves.
The so-called Great Awakening isn’t a social, religious, or political movement that takes place out there in the world. It’s about consciousness. And part of consciousness is a new level of self-awareness, and the understanding that in order to understand what’s going on “out there,” you first have to fully understand what’s going on inside yourself. Because you are a part of the whole big picture that is everything.
