A Must Watch!!! Before You Decide What’s Real, Understand This
The Objective Behind Plato’s Fable, The Allegory Of The Cave

By Dorraine Fisher

Things aren’t always what they seem. We all think we know this, but do we really understand?  Our idea that we have that what we see and hear is real in an illusion within itself. How can we understand what’s real if we only see it from one perspective?

Before we make decisions about reality, the supernatural, the metaphysical, the paranormal, and the spiritual, we have to first understand the nature of reality. What we see isn’t necessarily real. But it isn’t necessarily NOT real either. The lesson is that we have to learn to ALWAYS discern and scrutinize what we see and hear and believe is real.

The philosopher Plato’s (427-347 B.C.) fable from his work known as The Republic called The Allegory Of The Cave was his way of illustrating how we can all get caught up in our perceptions about what we see and experience and we might never fully understand the reality unless we can see things from a different perspective.

In my opinion, anyone who grapples with the nature of reality needs to be familiar with this story. It’s a profound reminder that we all need to constantly adjust our thinking in every situation we experience and always be aware that illusions abound. It’s also a testimonial about how we can each learn to see things in a different way than we always have and we can learn to understand how we can easily be manipulated and duped while all the time believing we have a grasp on reality.

You can go to the library and check out The Republic by Plato and read it for yourself, or you can watch this video that tells this story nicely. Narrated by Orson Welles, this is an old cartoon version of the story that gives a comprehensive view of Plato’s concept.  And if you really consume what he’s saying, it will change your view of reality forever. Tell us what you think.
