Today, I wanted to continue looking at old historical cases concerning Bigfoot and variations of the creature. Many times these older cases are passed over or totally forgotten. Some of these cases have what appears to be good evidence and many still have unanswered questions.

I think it is important for us to look at these old cases. It gives us more of an understanding of where we are today and how we might improve on our research. Plus knowing the history about any subject is very helpful in understand the subject and being able to answer questions about it.

Now, let get into some information about this particular picture.

This picture above comes from Zheijiang, China. In China the creature they have, that is similar to our Bigfoot, is called Wildman. But just like here in the states, it has many other names and a very long history of sightings.

Here are a few of the names and their meaning:
shangui = Mountain monster
Feifei = Man-bear
maoren = Hairy man

And there are many other names, but I think you can see the connection and the similarities of our Bigfoot. Some of these words come from old text and the meaning may be slightly different now.

There are many old documents that talk about "Wildman" in any one of the terms above. These recorded reports go way back to the Ming Dynasty. The creature was often described as a large unknown primate or just as a monkey or ape. In China in the 1950's science took an interest in wildmen. Interest in the subject continued to grow into the 1970's . Even in recent years, China has had interest in wildman.

There appears to be, from what I read, several variations on wildman. Some are smaller, while others are larger. There was also a couple of accounts of wildmen being killed. One such case took place in the 1940's.

Now, the above picture is allegedly the hands, and part of the arm, of a wildman. This was supposedly killed in May of 1957. The hands were cut off to preserve the evidence and hopefully get answers about the creature.


Paleoanthropologist Dr. Zhou Guoxing was able to examine these cut off hands in 1981. He determined that the hands were from some kind of large unknown ape. He went as far to say they belong to a higher primate, and have morphological traits of both ape and monkey. But he concluded that he did not think they were that of a Wildman.

Another interesting note is that in 1983 and 1985 two larger hands of this same species were taken in the same region of the original hands. I have not seen where any measurements have been listed of any of the hands.

Now, of course we cannot determine from the pictures or this post as to whether these hands are from a wildman or not. But we do know there is a long history of sightings and that the subject is worthy of study. IF it turned out not to be a wildman, but WAS an undiscovered primate, it would still be important. It would show that a creature of  this size, some say up to 8 foot tall, could remain hidden for a very long time.
