Crazy Bears and Moons Coming Down From the Sky

There are some who will tell you that they believe bigfoot came from the stars. Although to some this seems to be one of the "newer" paranormal theories, stories of tall, hairy creatures and lights in the sky are not something new.

One story that has stuck in my mind during my research into sasquatch is one coming from 1888. [I made a brief reference to it in a post a couple of years ago : "Bigfoot and UFOs in Pennsylvania, part 2" February 16, 2018.] Now I'd like to tell "the rest of the story".

In 1971 the late Brad Steiger [paranormal investigator and author] received a letter from James C. Wyatt of Memphis, Tennessee. Wyatt had in his possession a copy of his grandfather's journal from 1888. In this journal, the grandfather made references to a bigfoot-type creature. Wyatt sent Steiger a copy of the journal.

The grandfather was somewhere in "Big Woods Country" [along the Humboldt line]. As it was winter, he, his father and some other cowhands ended up staying with a local tribe. As the grandfather was fluent in several Native languages and knew sign language, they were comfortable spending the winter in the Native village. And the Natives were comfortable with the men being there. And then came the day the grandfather came upon a man carrying a large platter of raw meat.

At first, the man was reluctant to answer any of the questions about what he was doing. Finally, he told the grandfather to follow him. They walked away from the village until they reached a shallow cave in a cliff face.

Inside was a creature with long, shiny black hair over it's entire body, except for the palms of the hands and around its eyes. It seemed human like, sitting cross-legged, Indian style, eating the raw meat. The grandfather did not find it wild or vicious. His diary entry described it as being big and well developed.  There appeared to be no neck and the hair on the body was long. He returned to the cave several more times to see the creature. He was determined to learn as much about it as he could.

After many questions and "gifts" [two pounds of tobacco, a compass, and an ax], he was able to get one of the men from the tribe to tell him more. He was taken to a high pinnacle of rock on a clear night. And there he was told from where the creature had come.

The tribe called the creature "Crazy Bear".  It had been brought to them from the stars by a "small moon" that had landed on a plateau a few miles away from their encampment. Three "Crazy Bears" had been thrown out of the moon. Then the moon flew away into the stars. The grandfather was told that other "crazy bears" had been left there before. Those flying the "moons" looked more like men, with shorter hair than the Natives and with shiny clothing. They always waved to the Indians and appeared to be friendly.

Some reports say that the diary said that these "bears" did not seem to know how to care for themselves and the Indians had to show them how to eat and how to groom themselves. And then one day, the "crazy bears" walked away from the village and back into the woods.

Brad Steiger

Steiger [using the diary entries] stated that the Indians took the "bears" back to their village, believing that the "bears" were gifts from the heavens and were powerful magic. They would not let them wander away so that rival tribes could not capture them. This may explain why the grandfather found this one living in a cave a little distance apart from the Indians.

James Wyatt suggested to Steiger in his letter: "Who is to say the Crazy Bears weren't exiled to our planet for some crime or other infraction of the laws of another planet?

"On the other hand, it is not inconceivable that the hairy ones are the food animals  of some distant world and have been planted here on Earth to produce herds, just as the old shipmasters used to place pigs and goats on islands to multiply and furnish food for later voyagers.

"That they have not proliferated in great numbers may be due to their inability to provide for themselves, especially if they have been kept as produce animals for generations.

"Or perhaps, the climate, the atmosphere, or the food available to them is against their best survival purposes. Who knows?"

There are those who argue that this proves their theory that bigfoot are experimental creatures that have been turned loose on our planet for various reasons.

But in my opinion, the Crazy Bears do not seem to be what is typically thought of as bigfoot or sasquatch. Although resembling them in looks, the actions of these Crazy Bears seem different and serve to set them apart as a different creature. I find this to be true in most stories I come across regarding UFO/Bigfoot joint activity.

The creatures seem to bear only a superficial resemblance to the beings we call sasquatch or bigfoot. Most times they act and sound different, almost robotic. They may be another type of creature. But they are not sasquatch/bigfoot.
