Bigfoot Reunion by Sebastien ecosse |
Open Minded? Or Stubbornly Closed?
I ended a previous post with a suggestion for people to be open-minded. But as I look at the groups I hold membership in, I can find closed minds blowing up the posts.
Why is it that we rise up on our hind legs and demand that non-believers throw their opinions and beliefs to one side and OPEN THEIR MINDS to what we feel is the truth.
And then turn around with CLOSED MINDS and punch each other to the ground over our differences of theories.
SHAME on us. SHAME on those who are closed-minded. And SHAME on those of us who allow it.
I'm not saying it's not all right to have a theory we believe in. And I'm not saying that it's not all right to have a group that embraces the one theory that you firmly believe in. It is your right to be able to do so. It's a good thing. And a great way to chew over the thngs you all feel support your theory.
But it is NOT all right to ask membership to a group that does not share your theories and beliefs and then aggressively challenge the other members in a rude and insulting manner. It is fine to ask questions and then listen to the answers. That makes you OPEN-MINDED, willing to learn, willing to listen to what others have to say, to encounters they have had, to evidence they have gathered.
Because you can't be blind to events and circumstances that may be contrary to your theory or your own experiences and evidence gathered. It doesn't mean you're wrong. It just means we may have seen only part of the whole.
And then there are sites that try to encourage their members to share theories, share experiences, share research, share opinions, encourage questions, encourage discussions, encourage learning. (And don't for one moment think that such a group cannot exist. I am (was) co-owner of such a group: Bigfoot/Sasquatch All theories welcome, It does work. There may be some kerfuffles here and there, but for the most part it works.)
There is no need to join these groups which openly state what they are and then try to stir up trouble - name call, insult, demand other members change their minds, rampage with anger through the group. Such a need to destroy what doesn't reflect their own narrow minded beliefs will only end in destroying the community.
The non-believers -- no matter how loudly and publicly they laugh at us, no matter how loudly and publicly they say we're crazy for believing -- are not our enemies. They are not going to be the cause of destroying the community.
No, our demise will come about by our being CLOSED-MINDED. By our refusing to accept a possibility our pet theory may be flawed. That just possibly we may not know every thing.
Have some courage.
OPEN YOUR MIND.

I am trying to be open minded about UFO abductions and visitations. The reality is the ideas scare me to death so I ignore the topic for the most part. I don't get into whether anyone is right or wrong, I just don't get into it which is worse because I can't learn and abolish my fears if I don't educate myself.
