Intuition - 6 Ways To Recover Your Lost Sixth Sense
Reclaiming Your Inner Psychic

By Dorraine Fisher

You’re talking with someone you just met, and as you listen, you realize you don’t feel good about him/her. You don’t know why, but something about this person bothers you and you suddenly feel the need to get away. But you stick around and dismiss your feelings, (because they’re just feelings. Right?) only to find out later that he/she has a criminal record and may have been a danger to you. And you gasp at what you may have narrowly escaped. This was an incident of intuition, but your human brain failed to process it because of conditioning.
When we were children, we had a clear sense of our own inner voice, and we listened to it and we just did what came naturally to us. But as we grew older, and started to play a more active role on planet earth, our parents, teachers, and other guardians and mentors squelched that voice because they wanted us to listen to them instead.  They suppressed our inner voice, made us believe it was telling us the wrong things. Some even made us believe we were crazy to imagine a voice in our head was anything but mental instability. So, in turn, we stopped listening. We suppressed it until we could no longer hear it. And the really bad part about that is that, in not listening to it,  we denied our true selves in favor of becoming a person that was more acceptable to our caregivers instead of aligning with our true selves. We suppressed our own true psychic abilities in order to fit into a clueless society that places no value on things they can’t touch, measure, and weigh. And they did us a terrible disservice in the process. They took away part of our identity.

But there is good news.

That inner voice or intuition never left you. It still tries to communicate with you constantly. Those thoughts that pop into your head and those little voices that you hear inside your head all day every day telling you about yourself and how you feel about things is your intuition. It’s your soul or your heart speaking to you.  And it’s a true psychic ability you can certainly recover that will only get stronger as you learn to listen more. But if you don’t listen, it will find other ways to get through to you such as physical symptoms like stomach aches or headaches or even fatal diseases. Or it will tear you down to the point where you’re forced to listen, such as is the case in an emotional breakdown.

Our intuition will tell the absolute truth about us at any given moment. A sometimes brutal truth, but a truth we need to hear. And learning to listen to and validate intuition can go a long way in helping us align with who we were meant to be.

So here are some things to consider if you really want to recover this innate psychic ability in yourself.

1. All of your emotions are valid. Don’t let anyone tell you they aren’t. Your emotions are telling you a story about yourself, and possibly about something about you that needs to be addressed. In essence, your emotions are an integral part of your intuition. Never ignore them.

2. If you have a strong feeling about something and you can’t get rid of that feeling, that is your intuition in action. It may be trying to steer you in the right direction or keep you from harm. Don’t ignore it.

3. Don’t suppress your impulses. If you have a sudden impulse to do something, you might think seriously about doing it. No matter how crazy it may seem, the universe by way of your intuition may be trying to align you with something important that you need. Or it may be keeping you away from something you don’t need.

4. Don’t ignore things that you see and hear that are significant to you. Some of us identify with things like numbers, animals, or words, etc. If you attach some specific meaning to certain objects or beings and they suddenly appear to you out of nowhere, they’re probably there to tell you something, and it’s usually a message about how you identify with them. For example, someone once told me that to see crows around me meant that all was well and I was on the right track. And now, whenever I see crows, I automatically tell myself that I’m on the right track. And I am. If you have positive or negative associations with things or beings, your intuition will use these things to communicate with you in a way you’re uniquely capable of understanding.

5. Don’t drown out the voice inside your head. I see a lot of people sitting in front of the TV, talking on their phones, or turning up the radio on the way to work in order to drown out that voice inside their head. Because that voice may be telling them things they don’t want to hear. But it’s telling them about things they need to address. Things that would get better if they’d only tackle them head on instead of...turning up the radio to drown them out. Nothing gets better if we try to ignore it. It only gets worse. The voice is trying to bring your attention to it before it does.

6. Don’t listen to the naysayers. I put this quote by Nikola Tesla at the top of this article for a reason. Tesla was a scientist who understood the reality and the subtleties of intuition. He understood that there are energies that exist that defy human understanding and that serve us when other seemingly more logical avenues fail us. Don’t let anyone tell you these energies don’t exist. And as they exist, we can learn to use them for our own benefit.

Learn to trust yourself and your own inner knowing. It’s there for a reason. And as you continually trust it, it will become stronger...and you’ll wonder what you ever did without it.
