Unraveling Dreams About The People In Your Life

By Dorraine Fisher

Our dreams offer insights into our soul. They reveal our deepest fears and insecurities. But our dreams about the people in our lives are the most telling of all. Though we often overlook them as “just a dream.”

There is no such thing as “just a dream.” When we dream, our subconscious mind is hard at work sending us messages about what we need to fix about ourselves in order to be happy and feel better. And even nightmares serve this purpose if we examine them closely.

We often have dreams about strangers, but it’s the dreams about people we know that we should pay special attention to.
People we associate with in our everyday lives are our mirrors. Whether we like it or not, they reflect back to us some aspect of our self, good or bad. This person could be a family member or friend, or simply an acquaintance you pass from time to time that you don’t quite consider a friend, but you know them well enough to be familiar with some of their personality traits. But no matter what, if you know them, they are reflecting some aspect about you TO you. So when you’re trying to figure out the meaning of a dream about someone you know, ask yourself what that person in your dream represents to you in your waking life. The first thing that pops into your head about them is usually the best answer.

Quite often, this known person that appears in your dream is someone you like, or at least don’t dislike. But as with nearly everyone you know, they may have a personality trait, habit, or lifestyle you don’t particularly like or just simply don’t agree with. And if that aspect stands out for you when you think of this person, that’s what this person represents to you. This helps you understand the entire meaning of the dream.

Now, we could simply dismiss this as being a dream about “them.” But there is no dream about “them.” Even when our dreams contain other people, they aren’t really about other people at all. Your subconscious mind is not concerned with other people. Only with you.  Your dreams are always about you and your advancement and personal expansion as a member of the human race.

So, how do you unravel the meaning of a dream about someone else when it’s actually about you?

Keep in mind that the things you most dislike in other people are actually about what you dislike about yourself. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but it’s true.  If you hate someone, it’s likely because you hate the aspect of yourself that resembles that person. That person is actually mirroring back to you what you don’t like about yourself. Reminding you about the traits about yourself that you aren’t particularly proud or fond of.  That’s why you have no tolerance for this person. Because they represent the worst parts of yourself that you subconsciously realize but don’t address. Being around this person makes you uncomfortable because he/she reminds you of uncomfortable traits within yourself.

So, when you have a dream about someone else, it’s telling you that the trait this person represents to you is what you need to address and fix within yourself.  And you can allow yourself to take a long look in that proverbial mirror and confront that aspect of yourself, or you can wait for that dream to come around again and again until you do. Your dreams are there to help you, and they’ll keep trying to help you until you opt to take a peek at your reflection.
