Scientists on a 2023–2024 expedition in Madagascar just rediscovered a creature no one had seen since 1897: the Giant Millipede Spirostreptus sculptus.

This massive, armored millipede can reach nearly 10 inches long, with a dark, plated body built for burrowing deep into the forest floor. For 127 years, it vanished from science. No sightings. No specimens. Nothing but old records and speculation.
