Reviewing the Sykes DNA Study
Nat Geo Yeti Hunter Adam Davies Remarks
By TCC Team Member Dorraine Fisher

Many of us were more than disappointed in the Sykes DNA study’s results that pointed to an ancient and previously undiscovered species of polar bear. But the upcoming National Geographic documentary set to air in the US on November 17 promises more riveting information. So who knows?

But I spoke to Adam Davies recently about his reaction to the study’s recently revealed results from the documentary that has already aired in the UK where he lives. Adam led a Yeti research expedition to Nepal in 2009 in search of the yeti. He was optimistic about Syke’s results and offered some things to consider before we decide the study is a wash.

"Professor Syke's research forms three parts. As well as the TV series, there is also a possible paper, and a certain book to come. The films are a PART of it, not the whole. I would suggest that you consider all of the evidence that is presented in all of it before you come to any definitive conclusion. As to the findings in this episode then they certainly don't settle `the mystery of the Yeti once and for all" as the documentary makers (not Professor Sykes) claim. Rather, they point to a consistency with local legends, which point to two or possibly three "Yetis," one of which is a bear, so this exciting discovery seems to vindicate local legends rather than contradict them. For example, the account Mountaineer Reinhard Messner mentions only dates to 300 years ago. There are accounts many centuries earlier than that.
For example that of the ancient shamanistic religion which describe rituals involving sacrifice needing the blood of a horse, dog, black bear, goat, pig , raven, man, and wild man (yeti). Nor do they explain the divergent toe in many of the tracks, nor do they explain the personal eyewitness testimony I received from people whilst I was in Nepal, who know the difference between a bear and a Yeti, whether they are walking on two legs or four!
In conclusion, this discovery is great news. It represents an excellent new start to the research on the Yeti."

Adam also explained that the source document used by the creators of the documentary is just one source, and he believes the science to be sound. But he did express that to present the information presented by the documentary makers as being definitive of all yetis would be incorrect.
And Adam said on his Facebook page Sunday. "You can never disprove something not existing. All you can do is say how plausible its existence is based on your research."

In essence, there are many factors that will weigh in to the final conclusions. And the documentary won’t be all of it either. So Adam’s telling us not to give up on this yet. Wait until we have all the pieces to this complicated puzzle. And there are many details that will come to light all the way into next spring.

And if you can find nothing else positive to glean, consider this: The yeti’s existence has not been disproved here. The discovery of an ancient polar bear is a result we’re poised to be unimpressed by because it’s not the yeti proof we’ve been hoping for. But that discovery does reinforce our knowledge that new species are still being discovered every day. And it gives new hope that our elusive yeti evidence is still out there waiting to be found. *********DF

Due to an iFrame error the video had to be removed from this site but here is the like to the ABC Video

ABC News Covers the Bigfoot DNA paper

ABC News Covers Dr. Melba Ketchums 5 Year DNA study. It was also nice to find out Rob Lowe believes in bigfoot.
Seems all we can do now is wait for the paper to published and see if it is accepted by the general public. I'm sure it will continue to be a hotly debated topic for months to come.

Thanks

Are we all just NUTS?

Are We All Crazy For Believing?
Examining All The Nuts In The Bigfoot Jar
By TCC Team Member Dorraine Fisher

I think a lot of us in this community have a lot of frustration when it comes to our beliefs about Bigfoot. People on the outside, often including friends and relatives, think we’ve gone completely nuts for believing in something that hasn’t been scientifically proven. And people inside the circle constantly argue over theories and ideas when none of us can possibly know the truth yet.
So it’s really easy to be defensive here; guarded and cautious inside and outside our little Facebook world. We may feel we have to pick our friends carefully and we may often feel like giving up on those friends and family members that’ll make fun of us every chance they get.
But once you’ve seen the elusive hairy ones and you know they exist, you’ve entered another realm. A realm of legend. And there’s always some truth to legends. We all know that very well. We’re watching it unfold as we argue about details.
We’re all impatiently waiting for the DNA results, hoping and praying for some kind of vindication. Admit it! You’d like to throw those results in the face of all non-believers and say, “See? I told you so. I knew it all along.”
But we know that all those who don’t believe, have not heard the facts, they’ve not seen the evidence (or bothered to look at it), and most importantly, they haven’t seen what you’ve seen.
So for now we’re just nuts. I’m nuts, you’re nuts, we’re all nuts, and we’re all just rattling around in a big jar waiting for our moment to come.
But let’s keep in mind that we’re all rattling around in here together. We ARE our own best friends.  We have the inside track and nobody understands us as well as we all do.
And while you’re busy being impatient and frustrated, remember this: Our moment will come and it will come sooner than we imagine.
Because everybody here has worked too hard and spent too many hours walking the woods searching for the tiniest clues, setting up trail cams and sound recorders, setting out bait, and using up hours of video and audio time. There are so many researchers working diligently day and night; too many hiking boots on the ground scouring the countryside. Our technology is so much better than it was just ten years ago, and so is our basic knowledge. We’ve learned a lot in a very short time if you really think about it. A lot has been accomplished. Everyone should be very proud of where we are.
It’s the power of all our intentions that can make this happen.  Our combined energy and focus is what will make that “vindication” a reality. Too much effort has been put forth, we can’t possibly fail. With or without Dr. Ketchum’s DNA results, we WILL have our moment.
So if others don’t believe, so what? Who cares? We’re the ones that know, and we’re all in this together. That’s something we often forget.
If you’ve seen Bigfoot, you’ve been given a rare gift. You’re like one of the “chosen ones.” And if you haven’t seen Bigfoot, but you believe anyway, then you’re a person with an enlightened and expanded mind that can think beyond what it can see, and can imagine that life really is a mystery that we may never fully understand.  They’re are things out there you’ll never know. And you know that’s okay because it adds meaning and color to our otherwise mundane lives.
            We’re all very lucky.
So let them say what they will. We know the truth. We’re in possession of sacred knowledge here.  And learn to embrace the word crazy, because you’re “crazy like a fox.” *********

“Sister Species” Of Neanderthals Found
Suggesting Parallels To Dr. Ketchum’s DNA Study?
By Dorraine Fisher - TCC Team Member
Shards of “foreign DNA” have recently been discovered in three different groups of modern Africans offering clues that a strange “sister species” of neanderthals walked the earth alongside modern humans and neanderthals 20,000 to 50,000 years ago.
According to Newser.com and The Washington Post, this new strain of DNA discovered at the University of Washington in Seattle bears no resemblance to either human or neanderthal DNA but has somehow found its way into the modern human family tree. And there’s only one way it could’ve done that: interbreeding.
Neanderthal DNA has been found in modern day Europeans, suggesting interbreeding between the two species. But this new DNA is completely different and suggests a third determining factor in the evolutionary puzzle of modern humans. It points to a new idea that three different hominid species walked the earth at that time and they all interbred periodically,  creating the humans we are today.
But this poses another question in the Bigfoot world.
When news of Dr. Ketchum’s DNA study became the big topic of discussion earlier this year, rumors swirled around the community that the findings of the study might resemble humans more than other apes, suggesting that Bigfoot might be another strain of human. And it was also suggested that Bigfoot might be another hominid related more closely to Neanderthals, which had been believed to have interbred with homo sapiens.   This would obviously place modern human DNA into results of the Bigfoot DNA examination. But without fossil records, it’s impossible to know what these newly discovered hominids looked like.
And of course, no DNA results are in yet. We’re all still waiting for Dr. Ketchum to make the announcement.
But we have to ask the question:
If Bigfoot is indeed more human than ape as is rumored, and since different types of human like hominids were known to have interbred with each other successfully thousands of years ago, would this new strain of DNA point to an ancestor of Bigfoot?  And since there are no fossils records to determine the appearance of this hominid, could it actually BE Bigfoot?
The Washington Post suggested in amazement that we, the modern humans, were the only strain to survive this great evolution. But, given what we all know, are we so sure of that? *********

Time - Bigfoot Real!
Can We All Relax After Dr. Ketchum’s Results?
by
Dorraine Fisher

It’s no secret in the Sasquatch community that if you dare to enter into the realm of Bigfoot, you enter sensitive territory. You have those who have witnessed the hairy ones first hand. They know what they saw and they certainly don’t like to be called liars, or worse, crazy.  And then you have the journalists, researchers, and photo analysts who simply must scrutinize every piece of evidence that comes their way with the determination of an IRS auditor. But they do so in order to keep the research valid and credible. And they don’t want to be made a fool. All sides must tread lightly. So when Dr. Ketchum comes through with her DNA paper and proves the existence of Sasquatches, hopefully without a shred of doubt left, can we all relax a little?
The answer is yes and no. On one hand, thousands of eye witnesses will be vindicated. No one will be able to call them crazy anymore. Many may still be called liars, but the word “crazy” can be eliminated from the equation. But when its existence is proven and no one’s afraid of being called crazy, many more stories may pour in for researchers to record and analyze. It’s very possible that a lot more people may jump on the Bigfoot bandwagon. And it remains to be seen whether this will be good or bad for the species and the research.
But on the other hand science will take all this more seriously and all the hard work done by members of the community will be validated. Scientists have been almost completely absent from the community until recently. It’s been all the “hiking boots on the ground” types, the regular Joes and Janes, who’ve walked sometimes dangerous wilderness areas in the dark of night in all kinds of weather conditions, pointing a camera in every direction while often finding nothing, that have made this all possible. It’s all those who’ve tirelessly set up sound recorders and trail cams every day, scanned hundreds of miles of ground for a single footprint or sat crouched for hours under camouflage just to get the right picture that might make the world believe.
And my guess is that none of this will stop after the results are in. There will still be researchers scanning the woods, and there will probably still be hoaxers out there looking to make a quick buck with their fake photos and videos. All this while science tries to gain its footing on the subject and produce some solid evidence with possibly a Jane Goodall approach.
But we’ve learned a lot in a short time on this quest. And everyone deserves credit for all they’re hard work. You knew Bigfoot was real the whole time, and you spent your life trying to prove it. And even though it’s a bit tragic that, even after thousands of sightings by credible eye witnesses that told the same stories time and time again, you still had to work like a dog to prove what you already knew.
But now maybe you can take comfort in the fact that those hard, stressful days are gone for good.
Maybe now you can at least relax a little in knowing that none of your work or emotional investment
was in vain. You knew it all the time or you wouldn’t have done it.

Oetzi the Iceman
New evidence published by Nature magazine leads to some interesting insights into the life, health and lifestyle of the ancient Ice Man found in the Alps - Oetzi. DNA research has been carried out on what must be the most-studied corpse in history and the genome has been sequenced, leading to some startling revelations.
Oetzi, 5,300 years old, was found by mountain hikers in the Italian-Austrian Alps in 1991. Well preserved in ice, the body has provided some important information on pre-historic man. Now, we examine the man himself.
Nature magazine brings the news that the entire DNA sequence of Oetzi the Iceman from Tyrol has been published in Nature Communications and that the study of the genome gives important information as to the iceman's relations: from Sardinia and Corsica.
Oetzi had tattoos, he had tooth cavities, he had hardening of the arteries and before he died, he ate a nice meal of ibex - then he was felled with an arrow in the back. It is not clear whether he died from this or from severe head trauma - either he hit his head when he fell some distance after being shot with the arrow, or else died a violent death when his head was smashed by an assailant.
Albert Zink, head of the Institute for Mummies and the Iceman in Bolzano, Italy, leader of the sequencing study, stated to Nature: "We would like to know as much as possible about his living conditions, about himself and also his cause of death. We really tried to reconstruct a crime scene as much as possible".
The DNA sequence was taken from Oetzi's cellular mitochondria in 2008, and contained mutations which are no longer found today, making experts conclude that Oetzi came from a tribe or people that had since disappeared. The team led by Zink got further information by studying cells taken from a piece of Oetzi's pelvic bone, containing 96% of the Iceman's genome.
This led to the discovery that he had brown eyes, type O blood, was lactose intolerant, was athletic and active and almost certainly had Lyme disease (Tick fever). It also led to the discovery that the mutations in his Y chromosome are most common among men from the Mediterranean Isles of Corsica and Sardinia, where it is known there was a prehistoric civilization, which at one time was present across the European Continent and disappeared, except on those two islands.
Nature quotes Copenhagen University palaeogenomicist Eske Willerslev, who states: "Sardinians are a group that people have considered distinct from other Europeans, and in this regard it would be interesting if they were more widely distributed in the past".

TCC -  I just wanted to share this because of the DNA talk and it being from Nature Magazine. Nature Magazine has been rumored to be the mag that will publish the DNA findings on the Bigfoot samples. Dr. Ketchum has stated it will not be in Nature Magazine, just for the record.
It's Amazing what details have been found out about the "iceman" and it makes me hopefully about the Bigfoot DNA.
