2018 has hit the Bigfoot world pretty hard as we have lost two of our own. Even though there is a lot of infighting amongst different Bigfoot researchers and communities, some losses seem to touch everyone.

For this post I want to briefly talk about these two good men, who are no longer with us, but made contributions to bigfoot research and other fields.

First on January 18, 2018 we lost a friend to bigfoot from the scientific field, Dr. John Bindernagel.
Bindernagel was one of the few from the scientific field that believed in bigfoot. He lend his voice and work to all of us who had had an encounter with bigfoot. He believed us, when most of the people in science laughed and thought us to be crazy.

Even though I had never spoken to or met John Bindernagel, he was one of the folks I enjoyed watching talk about the different aspects of Bigfoot. He had appeared in numerous documentaries, and TV shows, with his most recent being in the Todd Standing film, Discovering Bigfoot. He also appeared in a couple episode of Monsterquest, and the documentary Southern Fried Bigfoot, just to name a few. John also authored one book on Bigfoot, that I know of, entitled North America's Great Ape: The Sasquatch.

Bindernagel grew up in Ontario, attended the University of Guelph, and received a PhD in Biology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He moved to British Columbia in 1975 largely because the region was a hot spot for Bigfoot sightings. Over the years, he collected casts of tracks that he believed belonged to Bigfoot. He also claimed to have heard the creature near Comox Lake in 1992, comparing its whooping sound to that of a chimpanzee. Bindernagel believed that the Bigfoot phenomena should receive more attention from serious scientists, but remarked, "The evidence doesn't get scrutinized objectively. We can't bring the evidence to our colleagues because it's perceived as taboo."

He will be missed.

Even more recently, Feb. 3rd, 2018, we lost yet another valued researcher, JC Johnson. Johnson was sometimes called the Indiana Jones of Cryptozoology. He traveled and research numerous cryptids. I had never met JC in person but had talked to him on Facebook. He also lent me some of his research for one of my early films, Bigfoot: The Evidence Files.

Over the years JC had been a source and point of contact for us on numerous articles. TCC's Dorraine Fisher had talked to JC numerous times for his input on various topics. JC was CEO & President at CRYPTO FOUR CORNERS. He also had appeared on numerous talk radio shows, including Coast to Coast Am.

He had also done numerous video projects and made a lot of headway with the Skinwalker phenomenon. Navajo SkinWalkers and Legends: Crypto Four Corners was a DVD release that was directed by JC Johnson. At this time I do not think the DVD is available.

With over 20 years of research under his belt, JC Johnson has a long list of investigations and research for everyone to pour over.

He will be missed.

A big thanks to these two research titans for their years of dedication to the field of cryptozoology and Bigfoot. Their knowledge was vast and their experience valuable. They will be missed.

Sometimes, I think the true value of a person is not fully realized until they are no longer with us. We need to change that and value those who are dedicated to the field of research and those who are in our life. Doing bigfoot research is not an easy task by any means. We are often made fun of and laughed at for our efforts. We are out a lot of time, money and effort. Nothing we present, for the most part, is taken serious but yet we trod on, trying to find the next sliver of evidence that we can add to our knowledge. Many days we feel like giving up but we have a drive, a yearning, to find the answers to our questions.  John and JC had that drive.

Thanks
Tom
