Psychic abilities are often different than people think. Instinct and intuition can be classified as psychic abilities, though that definition is often overlooked.

Some of us are naturally drawn to the paranormal. We have a strong sense that the universe extends further than we can see. And that may be because we’ve had experiences that come from our other senses. Sense that others don’t use as much. But to us, a feeling is just as real as any other sense. And it’s not always just about feeling. Sometimes we see things, maybe that others can’t. We’re somehow aware of a whole other reality beyond this one.

You’re lying in bed late at night. You can’t sleep so you decide to try catching up on your reading. You try to focus on the book in front of you, but you suddenly see a dark figure, like a shadow, out of the corner of your eye. You turn your head to get a better look, but of course, there’s nothing there. You could have sworn you saw something, but common sense tells you it was just your imagination. So you go back to reading, when you suddenly see it again. Are you crazy? Or are you maybe a closet psychic?
The world is full of things that can’t yet be explained. Science is now telling us that nothing in our world is really solid. Reality is different than we think.  EVERYTHING around us is energy, functioning at a particular vibrational frequency. So, are some of these things operating at such a high frequency that most humans aren’t able to see them...or at least see them clearly? And are there certain humans, who are more sensitive to energy and better able to sense these things that others can’t?

When I talk about spirits, I’m actually talking about forces of energy that I might not be able to see but I can feel or sense in some other way. And when I believe someone to be psychic, I believe they have tapped into senses beyond the basic five we’ve all been taught we have. Most people believe in a sixth sense of some sort, while there is evidence to suggest there may be others as well.  Sometimes it’s something you can hear near you, but can’t see. Or even a strange scent coming seemingly from nowhere. Or let’s not forget that creepy feeling we can get sometimes when something around us isn’t right.

These are all psychic abilities of sorts. So, by this definition, are you psychic? See if you relate to any of these abilities.

1.You’ve always seen strange things. It started when you were a child. Your experience of the world has always been different than those around you. You seem to be aware of other things, other forces and energies beyond the usual ones. Of all the people you know, you’re the one who’s had the strange experiences and witnessed the strange occurrences. Are you delusional? Probably not. It’s just that you may be more sensitive to these energies and better able to see and sense things others can’t.

2. You have extremely vivid dreams and nightmares. There are many who believe that dreams are messages from the spirit world, and you can see why. Yours are often intense, clear, and sometimes a bit scary. Sometimes you can even experience senses like smell, taste, and touch in these dreams. And they’re often so vivid that you can remember them for years afterward.  You may have even felt the need to understand them better and interpret them, perhaps for your own peace of mind.

3. Your presence seems to interfere with electrical energies. Lights flicker in your presence. Batteries from cameras and cell phones go suddenly and inexplicably dead. Computers and other electronics mysteriously malfunction, and you feel like you spend a lot of time talking to tech support. There are some who believe that spirits or those with increased spiritual energy like more psychic individuals can interfere with electronics. Humans have a natural level of electricity in their bodies. So, is it possible that some have a stronger level that could easily interfere with other electronics? I wonder.

4. You often hear strange noises. Especially at night. Of course, you tell yourself it’s just the structure around you settling and causing creaking and groaning noises. But sometimes the noises are more like something shuffling around you when no one’s there. Like something on two feet, maybe? Because you not only hear the sound, but you have a sense of it too. A sense you can’t necessarily explain, but it feels real enough to you.

5. You may get a creepy feeling sometimes that something is watching you or standing in the same room with you. This is one of the creepier psychic abilities and one most of us don’t like very much. But senses like these are often valuable and have been known to save lives and help avert disaster at times.

6. You get strange feelings when entering historic places. You might walk into a historic building and get a strange feeling you can’t explain. For some psychics, this can come in the form of flashes of events that have happened there in the past, or the emotions of people who’ve formerly occupied the space. But for most, it’s more a feeling you can’t put your finger on, either negative or positive.

7. You may receive strange sensations when you pick up an object that has a lot of history or has passed through many hands or traveled long distances. This may include flashes in your mind of details of the object’s history or waves of emotions from people who have handled the object. But for some, the feeling may be nothing more than a strange, inexplicable feeling.

8. You see strange, dark figures around you, sometimes human shaped, from the corner of your eye. But when you turn your head to look, it’s not there. You tell yourself it’s your imagination, but this isn’t the first time it’s happened. It happens often and you often see these shadowy figures in the same places.

9. You have a strange connection to animals. Ever since you were small, people have said you have a way with animals. Spiritual communication is communication without words and your natural ability to connect with otherworldly things translates into an ability to communicate with non-speaking entities such as animals. This may be true of all animals, just one particular type of animal, or maybe just certain animals you have known. But they gravitate toward you and feel at ease with you because they know you understand them.

Not all psychics are mind-readers or predictors of future events like skeptics try to portray them. Some have those kinds of abilities, of course, but if you have some of the abilities and have had some of the experiences above, this may also mean you’re a little psychic and haven’t realized it. And the more you use these abilities and believe in them and learn to trust them, the stronger they become. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re crazy. This gift is real, and you may just have it.
