Thoughts From John Green Still Valid Today

John Green shared many of his thoughts and conclusions throughout his book "Sasquatch the Apes Among Us" while he collected those reports of encounters and shared the experiences of those with whom he spoke. Many are worth keeping in mind even today.

He spoke of how not all the reports were true, that there probably were hoaxes involved; some stories sensationalized by newspapermen trying to sell papers. But also, that the reports he had gathered represented only a small portion of the encounters that were out there.  All the old stories that never got into print are gone forever. And there are many that are lost in old publications that people have not yet found.

"You can disprove or discount all the reports you like, but if just one remains that is true, then the existence of a hairy biped is established. But if hairy bipeds do exist, then there is no reason to doubt that most of the people who think they have encountered one have actually done so."

"Assume for the sake of argument that no such animal actually exists. You then have a situation in which hundreds of people are finding reasons to claim encounters with an imaginary animal, and other hundreds are going to the trouble of counterfeiting tracks that such an animal might make. Consider that this phenomenon is not just a passing fad, but has been going on at so many times and in so many places of which we have record that it can be assumed to have existed everywhere, throughout man's history. Surely such a phenomenon should be studied by any society that wished to understand itself.

"Or is there something about this subject that activates a prejudice so deep as to make it untouchable? If that is the case, and it certainly seems to be, then that in itself is a phenomenon that demands investigation."

Quotes from John Green.

"I'll spark the thought; what you do with it is up to you."
"Those that know, need no further proof. Those that don't, should not demand it from others, but seek it for themselves."

  1. I own a copy of John Green's "Sasquatch: The Apes Among Us" book. I read it cover-to-cover in 2021. I place this book among the Top 5 all-time bigfoot books. An excellent work from the 1970's. Green spent much of his adult lifetime learning of sightings, interviewing witnesses, documenting them, and searching the mountains and forests himself for bigfoot. If you haven't read this book, I encourage you to. Don't let the 1970's copyright deter you from reading it. It is an ageless and timeless work -- a view of the bigfoot puzzle from 50 years ago, long before the internet and social media, back when research took massive time and effort from John Green to present this masterpiece to us.
