Are we living in a parallel universe?

Some people think so. And yet, this may just be the mother of all conspiracy theories.

Have you ever encountered something that you believe happened and even a lot of other people believe it too, but when you check the record, strangely, according to history,  it never happened at all, and you and all these other people are totally wrong? Or maybe it just happened differently than everyone thought?

Or...maybe...as some people believe, we’ve slipped into an alternate reality or parallel universe where everything is just slightly different than the one we actually remember? Or maybe someone traveled back in time and tripped over a crack in the sidewalk and changed the course of future events just a tiny bit?


Often great numbers of people will swear something was one way when the historic record says something totally different. This is known as the Mandela Effect, named after Nelson Mandela. And there’s a good reason for that. And sometimes we can even find a little evidence that people were actually right.

A lot of people believed that Nelson Mandela, the South African president that was thrown in prison actually died in prison in the the late 80’s or early 90’s. I felt that I remembered this myself.  But then we saw that he died in 2013. Why do so many people remember him dying in 1991? There was even a passage in a book called English Alive back in late 1991 that specifically claimed that Mandela did actually die on July 23, 1991.


So, what gives?

Yes, it sounds crazy, but this really is a thing. And it’s becoming more of a thing as time goes by and people keep catching other examples of Mandela effects...or at least think they are. But some of them can actually be proven.

And there are many more examples and more coming in every day. When I started researching this subject, I quickly became overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of these supposed “reports.” And some of them sound totally ridiculous to me while others make me go HMMM.
