Something in the woods
Running time: 90 minutes
Directed by Tony Gibson &  David D Ford

I recently purchased this movie, not knowing a whole lot about it. But it was Bigfoot related and the trailer seemed pretty good, so why not. I really didn't know what to expect and figured it was probably a low budget film, which is not an issue for me, so I took some time to watch it this morning. In short, a family discovers they have Bigfoot on their property and feel threatened when the Bigfoot comes up to the house. The father, takes steps to protect his family.

Being a Bigfoot researcher and having been around Bigfoot on several occasions, I was somewhat amazed at how this film was able to capture the feeling of what a real Bigfoot sighting feels like. It didn't take long, about 30 minutes into the film, to tell that the people involved in this film did their homework. That is only one of the things that sets this Bigfoot film apart from many other Bigfoot films. Now, that may not mean a lot to people who do not know about the history of Bigfoot, or to non researchers or to people who have never had an encounter.  Even if you are not a Bigfoot enthusiast or have never had an encounter, the film is still very entertaining. But for people who already have good knowledge about the subject of Bigfoot, you will be blown away and very happy.

The handling of this film was done very skillfully and I just can't see any Bigfoot fan being disappointed in the film.  The films contains the proper elements to make Bigfoot fans happy. You get treated  to several sightings of the creature, you have howls, discovery of tracks, stick formations and some cleverly added in real Bigfoot reports. The Bigfoot suits used in the film are very good and not cheesy looking like many other films. You do get to see the creature up close several times.

Now, as I sit there watching this film, I was thinking, "This would have been a good film to have been part of". Then something happens that kind of shocked me and was something I had no prior knowledge about. In one scene, a few of the guys are out looking for this Bigfoot with guns in hand. There is a cut scene of a deer walking in the forest. To my amazement, that is MY footage! See, while I'm out Bigfooting, I also look for other animals to film and sometimes offer that footage for sale as stock footage on Pond5.com. The footage of the deer was actually taken by me while out doing Bigfoot research, so even the films stock footage is based in real Bigfoot research. So, that was a very pleasant surprise and in a way I do have a small part in the film, though I'm not credited.

There are a few minor things that some might nitpick about the film, but it is just very small things. Some folks might want to spot or look for things that might not have been available during the time period the story takes place. These little things do not detract from the film at all.

So, in closing, I will say, if you are a fan or follow Bigfoot, you must purchase this film. If you just like a good creature movie with pretty solid acting, and a good story, then buy this film. This film is very clean and only has a few small curse words in it. It can be enjoyed by the whole family. Yes, the film is probably consider a low budget film, but for me it delivered why beyond the cost of making it, and is what I expect in a Bigfoot.

In the end, this was a wonderfully done film that should be appealing to everyone but especially Bigfoot fans. As a small film maker myself, I urge everyone not to pirate the film or watch it from a sideways source. Support the efforts of the people involved and buy an official copy of the film.

Rating: 5 out of 5
