Dr. Ketchum’s DNA Study
The Latest Information And Our Take On It
By TCC Team Member  Dorraine Fisher

Just yesterday, the online scientific magazine arstechnica.com made their assessment of Dr. Ketchum’s DNA results and the study overall. And as our team attempted to sift through all the technical jargon, and then read it again to make sure, our conclusions could only lead us in one direction.

The author of the article, John Timmer, while he believes the doctor is honest and sincere in her beliefs in sasquatches, believes her methods and her findings are flawed. By virtue of what he’s saying in the article, he believes her data has serious problems. Problems she seems more than willing to overlook because of her personal beliefs in her own ideas about the creature. And we believe this has tainted the entire project and set the cause back further rather than help it.

A failed study, by a lab technician, published in an illegitimate scientific journal will never stand up to a real study, published in an appropriate journal, by one of the world’s leading geneticists.

This has given us more reason to hope the Sykes study will help us all make sense of it while bringing some sanity to the cause once again. *******DF

  1. In my opinion, for what it is worth, I believe that John Timmer is way off base in his assessment of Dr. Ketchum's methods and her findings.
I responded directly to his writings in the online scientific magazine arstechnica.com, but for reasons unknown, none of my posts were published. Therefore, I shall attempt to publish them again, and if I have no success, I will post them everywhere else I can.
I believe that John Timmer is incorrect about some of his allegations regarding the DNA Study that Dr. Melba Ketchum has been conducting with the Sasquatch Genome Project. Specifically:
    1. Totally unsubstantianted Statements to the effect that the results obtained were invalid because of contamination.

This allegation has been repeated so many times in past months that many people, myself included have made so many statements and dissertations that contamination did not in fact, and if it had, the precaution of having samples from collectors would allow such contamination to be recognized if it were to have occurred.

In the end, all of the 111 samples submitted were found upon careful analysis to be Non-contaminated and subsequently produced results that were verified to consistently be from a single source.

I charge that if John Timmer wants to make blanket statements to the effect that the results obtained by the Sasquatch Genome Project were due to contamination, that he could have the common decency to have some proof of that allegation, which he has not provided, and is likely to not ever to be able to provide.

    2. A statement by John Timmer that the results obtained by the Sasquatch Genome Project consisted of only 1 Mitochondrial Genome and one Nuclear Genome from one sample. I will quote:

"As evidence, it presents two genomes that purportedly came from bigfoot samples. The mitochondrial genome, a small loop of DNA that's inherited exclusively from mothers, is human. The nuclear genome, which they've only sequenced a small portion of, is a mix of human and other sequences. Some are closely related, others quite distant."

This statement is false, and the incontrovertible proof of it's falsity is found in the Article, "Novel North American Hominins" produced by the Sasquatch Genonm Project" I will quote the pertinent section.

"One hundred eleven samples of blood, tissue, hair, and other types of specimens were studied, characterized and hypothesized to be obtained from elusive hominins in North America commonly referred to as Sasquatch"
"Of the 20 whole and 10 partial mitochondrial genomes sequenced, 16 diverse haplotypes were found suggesting that these hominins did not originate in a single geographic location."
"Samples 26, 31 and 140 were selected because of the large quantities of high quality DNA extracted. All three samples were successfully sequenced and yielded, on average, 70-110 million total reads for each sample in each lane, indicating well over 90 Gb of raw sequence with coverage greater than 30X. Quality control indices including Q30 indicated that all three yielded high quality genomic sequence."

It would appear that these published facts contradict John Timmer
and his allegations are, to use his term "BADLY OFF TRACK"

  2. I am sorry but I cannot help but remind everyone of several pertinent facts that have not quite yet become "Common Knowledge" (But that will happen very soon!).

    1. The hominin popularly known as "Sasquatch" or "Bigfoot", thanks to Dr Melba Ketchum, who has led the Sasquatch Genome Project, now has a proper taxon, which has been registered with ZooBank as Homo sapiens cognatus. It is definitely NOT an APE! It is time to stop arguing about this FACT.

    2. The proof, beyond any possible doubt, has been proven by the Three complete Nuclear Genomes sequenced by the DNA Laboratory of the University of Texas at Dallas, and alignment confirmed by the University of North Texas Health Science Center.
The three Genomes also displayed Consistent Homology, that indicates that they came from a common (single) ancestor.

Further, very convincing additional proof of existence has been obtained by the sequencing of 20 complete and 10 partial Mitochondrial Genomes of Homo sapioens cognatus, which are very close to human.

At least three independent scientists have analyzed the data obtained by the Sasquatch Genome Project and have rendered their independent opinions that the data it is completely valid and correct.

The first such scientist, Dr. David H. Swenson Ph,D, also made a very powerful statement, which I will quote: It should go a long way to shut down any comments to the contrary.

"Sasquatch is real, as proven by genetic analysis."

The other two credentialed scientists who also are in agreement are:
    Dr. Haskell Hart, who wrote:

"1. The mtDNA of 29 samples is essentially human."

"2. The nDNA of three samples (26, 31,and 140) has homology to human nDNA on chromosome 11, but is not entirely human."

"3. The nDNA of three samples(26, 31, and 140) is not related to black bear, raccoon or opossum."

"WAY TO GO DR. MELBA KETCHUM!!!!"

and Dr. T. Joy Clay Chrisman, Ph.D., PMP, who wrote:

"I fully support Dr. Ketchum and her research and appreciate having the research and data. I make a point of stating the scientific methodology was very sound and all necessary precautions were taken."

These are the findings of some very serious, well credentialed men, who are very succinct.
There are no serious rebuttals to the findings of these scientists.

    And there never will be.

Future research will further validate the DNA data developed by the 11 scientists of the Sasquatch Genome Project. I fully expect Dr. Byan Sykes to agree with the Sasquatch Genome Project data.

I personally expect that Dr. Melba Ketchum and the 11 Scientists of the Sasquatch Genome Project will win the Nobel Prize for solving a very long standing mystery, which goes back for 302 years to 1811, when the first european explorer encountered large man-like tracks in Canada.

The Sasquatch Gemome Project, led by the courageous Dr. Melba Ketchum, has proven, with very strong evidence, that a previously undocumented and unclassified member of the Genus Homo, now posessing the ZooBank Taxon of Homo sapiens cognatus, is in fact extant in North America.

This is a very momentous discovery since all other relatives of Modern Humans, (Homo sapiens sapiens) are long since extinct. Homo sapiens cognatus is the only other member of the Genus Homo.

Congratulations Dr. Melba Ketchum and Colleagues!
