The Bigfoot That Wasn't There

A few years ago, I would get out and remove junk from some of our local waterways. It's amazing what people throw away and even more amazing what they throw in our streams. I have found everything from microwaves to bicycles. I enjoyed the time out doors and the feeling of cleaning up our streams. Over my years growing up I had spent many hours swimming in these creeks and as I got older many hours fishing in them. I would also sell this junk to the local recycling center, the extra money came in handy. In one week alone I removed over 1,500 pounds of junk from one local creek.

Of course, while out collecting junk, it also gave me a chance to scan the creek banks for signs of Bigfoot. On a couple occasions I did have some odd things happen. I want to take this time to tell you about one of them.

I normally looked for this junk by myself, I would park my truck close to the creek and walk up and down the stream looking for this junk and then pack it back to the truck. Sometime, I would walk a mile or more away from the truck. Some of these area were pretty isolated with no houses close by but plenty of forest.

One day while out looking for junk, I was about a half of a mile from my truck, when all of a sudden there was a large splash in the water. It was a splash like someone or something had threw a rock in the water. This splash occurred a pretty good ways up ahead of me. As I kept on moving slowing up stream looking for junk, SPLASH! Another splash in the water. On my right side there was nothing but mountains and there is a history of Bigfoot sightings in this area. So at this point I'm thinking, "Hey, this could be a Bigfoot throwing rocks at me."

I keep moving slowing up stream looking for junk and glancing at the treeline to see if I can spot anything or anyone that could be throwing rocks into the water. In the back of my mind I was thinking it could be a person just messing with me but the possibilities of it being a Bigfoot was right there as well.

Then I hear something hit the rocks on the shoreline, it was like whatever this was had not hit the water this time. I keep easing up stream and then Splash! right next to me.

It was at this point I realized what was making these splashes, it was not a person, it was not a Bigfoot. It was a tree loaded with nuts and the nuts were periodically falling off the tree and sometimes into the water making the splash. So I had a bit of a chuckle and continued to look for junk. To be honest I was a little disappointed that it wasn't a Bigfoot.

I posted this, and it is a true story, to illustrate that it's sometime easy to get caught up in the moment and think something is being done by Bigfoot, when in reality it was something natural. Now, what if I had left after the second or third splash, all the while thinking it was a Bigfoot throwing rocks at me.  I'm glad I've been at this long enough to know I needed to continue on and look for the source of the splashes.

I have also seen and heard nuts falling off of trees produce a wood knock sound, which I would assume, has fooled many people.

So in the end, even though strange things may be happening, it is better to keep your wits about yourself and look for a explanation or source for the odd event. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm in no way suggesting that Bigfoot does not throw rocks, but sometimes we tend jump to the conclusion of Bigfoot, when in fact it may not be.

Thanks
~Tom~

    1. Yes, there are many reports of rock throwing. One that comes to mind was my short interview with Shane Shamblin.
